Hey kids, its your good buddy Uncle Ben Eller here with a Happy Halloween Weekend surprise!!! Because you all demanded it, i'm here to give you all a lick-by-lick breakdown of George Lynch's legendary solo on "Dream Warriors" by Dokken, from the Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors soundtrack!!!
This is a slippery beast of a solo with lots of trills, slides, tapping, and odd timing. But you'll get the tips you need to make it your b**ch in no time! Welcome to prime time!!! Freddy Krueger? More like SHREDDY KRUEGER, and i right????
I'm playing my Suhr Modern Satin into the MXR Modified OD pedal, which is going into my Amplified Nation Ampliphonix and Gain head, into the Suhr Reactive Load IR box, and i'm using Logic for delay and reverb.
What other classic Dokken songs do you want me to dive into?! Let me know in the comments!!!

Love George Lynch too. Great lesson 👍 GoDokken got to see Dokken at a 150 person venue bar in 1983 I was 20 and met a smoking hot girl who hit on me...she was a Scorpions fan too. My kinda girl..it was the perfect show...head banging babe at Dokken show and a pitcher of Budlight lol. 7$ show. George had full blown flu and was sitting in the corner sweating horribly and trying to stay super professional...I was so close I think he passed the flu to me. Lol. still was amazingly perfect. Alone Again is one of my favorites. One of the greatest shows I have seen sitting 10 ft from Lynch while he just shredded the show. Dated that rocknroll babe for a whole year. Saw many head banging bands with her. Rockn Roll Memories

Totally dug how you spoke in notes and intervals for us theory nerds and we had to use our ear for the lick with that lovely b5 in the 5th position pentatonic. Cool beans! Oh and my DOD grunge sounded best while I was browsing pedals at Sweetwater and passed it by while making my way to JHS and MXR...B*tch lol...Seriously tho you rock Ben and many thanks!!! (BTW using the tapping finger to keep in time was an amazing tip)!!!

  • @drefrazier4266
    @drefrazier4266 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Sounds great bro! Regarding the tapping run, he actually ends on an F note (A str, 8th fret), not a C. Goto 3:10 in this recording and you'll hear it. The notes go as far down as the low E string then back to the A string to resolve at the 8th fret.
    th-cam.com/video/ok3R7Aj9eI4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=CXa6TNwWEy8RI4n1
Also, the high E and B string notes do indeed start with 15th fret taps as you mentioned. For the remaining strings he begins with hammer ons/pull offs, THEN taps. Like this:
    B string: ...tap 15, 13 12 10
    G string: hammer on 11, 9 10 12, tap 14, 12 10 9
    D string: hammer on 12, tap 14, 9 10 12, tap 14, 12 10 9
    A string: hammer on 12
    E string: hammer on 7, 8 10
    A string: hammer on 7, 8 10 12, tap 14, 12 10 8
I know lol it's a lot harder this way and honestly if you run thru it fast enough w/o the hammer ons it'll still sound good but I'm quite sure this is how he does it on the album.

Thank you so much for this amazing tutorial, uncle BEN. George LYNCH's unique phrasing made him standout amongst other talented rock guitar players in the 1980s. DOKKEN's 'Back For The Attack' (1987) remains one of the most comprehensive guitar albums, in my opinion. My favourite guitar tones are featured on DOKKEN's BFTA (1987) and VAN HALEN's self-titled and '1984'. The Holy Trinity of rock guitar, i.e., King Edward VAN HALEN, St. Randy RHOADS and George LYNCH, was a gift from above.

OK, Couple things... First, Awesome video as usual and nice to see another George Lynch fan out there. I think of all the 80's axe-men, George is considerably overlooked and underrated. By the way, I also loved that you did a video on an Opeth tune. They are an amazing band. But I digress... Second, and let me preface this by saying I belly-laugh every time you say it... What is the deal with all the shade you throw on the DOD Grunge pedal? Is it some snarky joke wherein you actually like this pedal? Or are you being serious and think it's truly junk? I actually used to have one and... maybe my ear for tone is not at all as good as I think it is... But I liked using it and got what I felt were some good sounds out of it. Just my cent-and-a-half on that, I guess. Anyway, do you have a beef with all DOD products? I know many of you online guitar guys build your business/brand at least partially on forming relationships with gear manufacturers/vendors, so I wouldn't think you would want to alienate these companies. But, you're the TH-cam professional, not me, so I'm sure you know what you're doing. Keep the great playing and lessons coming! They're great!

Pretty sure George's solos are a bunch of takes, cut n pasted together. It's why they sound so wild and inimitable. Especially anything from BFTA. I'd be shocked if I discovered he didn't take a face plant into a pile o' coke between each take. But, it sounds amazing.

That’s pretty tight and I could, in no way, do better but there are a couple of places where Lynch uses a technique that sounds like a traditional vibrato but he’s actually sliding a half step (possibly whole step) up and down again really quickly. It creates a vibrato with a more frantic sound.

Outside of Mr. Scary the Tooth and Nail is the king of Lynch's lead domain. One of my top 5 guitarist of all time and his new stuff with KXM is fantastic as well with a more basic approach if you can call it basic, I don't think George knows what that is lol. Always a pleasure my man see ya next video.🎸🎵🔥

How much time should you devote daily for metronome if you are at 90 bpm speed and you want to learn let's say master of puppets? Is there a law of diminished returns? Let's say 15 minutes a day versus 2 hours per day? What is your experience?

I see a lot of Heaven Sent comments here. I agree with the sentiment! I would add that another of the Scariest Solos and it’s one that get majorly over looked is Lost Behind the Wall. The dive bombs on that solo sound like a demon gorging on your guts! Phenomenal!!!

uncle Ben ... the face you make when you play the hammer on part at the end of the solo you play in the intro of the video made me burst out laughing ... nicely done :)

Superb channel as well, lots of great things to learn from, cheers

    It's HELLOWEEN! 😱💀
Remember seeing Dokken at the Monsters of Rock Tour in 1988 at Giant Stadium in New Jersey. It was Kingdom Come, Dokken, Scorpions, Metallica, and Van Halen headlined . Lynch smokes up the fretboard literally. If only I had a time machine, the good ole days. Thanks for the memories Eddie Van Halen truly going to miss u . Your new name is BEN SOLO Haha get it LOL.😃. Great job bro, ROCK ON.🎸
