- Deadly Redback Spiders are the ultimate spider killers. They are cousins to Black Widow spiders. Between week 3 & 4 I introduced a Black House Spider into the Redback spider home. This new spider really had the Redback spiders carefully understanding what they were up against. Lots of touch and taste by many Redback spiders. They semed to work together to corner the Black House Spider until it was dealt a spider bite. But the Redback spiders did not bind the spider with web and suck it to zero. The Black House Spider died a fews days later. It never seemed to recover from the initial spider attack by multiple Redback spiders. From what I have seen Redback spiders will drift between being isolated loners enjoying a place to themselves to working in gangs to kill another spider or insect. One thing for sure is I have not found anything to add to the Redback spider home that kills Redbacks. The only threat to them is an attack from another Redback spider. Surely this makes for a very awkward family structure. In seeing this also explains why they can build up huge infestation numbers around the garden.
TH-camr Beanmeister22 had the idea for this Terrarium. It's decorated with a CAT Bulldozer toy, Thomas The Tank (Wooden Railway), Minecraft Minifigure Steve with TNT and Star Wars Millennium Falcon (Hot Wheels Diecast). This Terrarium has garden soil and other garden bugs that were in the compost heap. It's a fun and inexpensive home for the most interesting and deadly pets I have ever had.

The Redback spider (Latrodectus hasseltii) is a species of venomous spider indigenous to Australia. It is a member of the cosmopolitan genus Latrodectus, the widow spiders. The adult female is easily recognised by her spherical black body with a prominent red stripe on the upper side of her abdomen and an hourglass-shaped red/orange streak on the underside. Females have a body length of about 10 millimetres (0.4 in), while the male is much smaller, being only 3-4 mm (0.12-0.16 in) long. Mainly nocturnal, the female Redback lives in an untidy web in a warm sheltered location, commonly near or inside human residences. It preys on insects, spiders and small vertebrates that become ensnared in its web. It kills its prey by injecting a complex venom through its two fangs when it bites, before wrapping them in silk and sucking out the liquefied insides. Male spiders and spiderlings often live on the periphery of the female spiders' web and steal leftovers. Other species of spider and parasitoid wasps prey on this species. The Redback is one of few arachnids which usually display sexual cannibalism while mating. The sperm is then stored in the spermathecae, organs of the female reproductive tract, and can be used up to two years later to fertilise several clutches of eggs. Each clutch averages 250 eggs and is housed in a round white silken egg sac. The Redback spider has a widespread distribution in Australia, and inadvertent introductions have led to established colonies in New Zealand, Japan, and in greenhouses in Belgium.
The redback is one of the few spider species that can be seriously harmful to humans, and its preferred habitat has led it to being responsible for the large majority of serious spider bites in Australia.

This was my second favorite of your videos. The second Collection you did where you burned those gloves was a great episode that got me interested. now this is figuring out their behaviors.. nice even match when its 1v1 with the house spider but the running away and dying of poison was bound to happen eventually. Thanks for uploading, I will be looking forward to more!

Very interesting behavior. I doubt there has been many studies done on this. They seem to be able communicate with each other. Very strange.

3:50 the Redback put venom on there leg to touch the enemy with it. It's possible that they do the same with there webs.
That could be the reason for the dead of the house spider.
I reckon that's what they are doing spitting venom on there feet to touch the house spider
White-tailed spiders are above red backs in the food chain
So if you find one be sure to put it with the red backs
you never know I might be wrong
On a web the redbacks wins on the floor the whitetail wins, whoever strikes first or whoever is biggest wins most of the time in the big world, there really isn't a level of power

Those house spiders are everywhere around my home during summer. They tend to keep to themselves and are rarely ever seen inside.

I did read somewhere that redbacks sometimes "touch" to break the skin of prey. Perhaps in this instance they "touch" and then "touch" again to remotely apply venom to similar size prey?

Trainer Grim tarantula hawks only see tarantulas, so the t.hawk won't bother them, plus, red backs have MUCH stronger venom.
It would fly around for 5 seconds and get caught in a web and killed. So climactic.

The abdomen of those red backs was huge! House spiders for for me are daddy long legs, which kill bugs or white tails or something, and white tails which aren't deadly, but have a mean bird. These spiders will certainly need more than a few hits from s fly swagger to die. Nice video. Love your work

great video. years ago i used to keep the western black widow(basically the north american redback) and do the same type of thing. mine were always solitary, they didn't tolerate other widows like yours do. they are my favorite type of spider. the web, their mannerisms, attack patterns, how they wrap up prey. truly awesome and the best looking in my opinion.

It does seem that way. With the Redbacks' taste testing was to see who they were up against, it's like they were observing that house spider to see what it could possibly do, aside from invading their newfound home.

I hate spiders so much but your videos are addicting!!
I did this on a smaller scale with a single white tail instead of redbacks once. She was very much not cautious. The black house spider lived until the moment it turned it's back on her, which was about 10-15 seconds.

House spiders can be found in the wild living next to redbacks, that's the respect factor because they are closely matched in a fight. Whoever wraps faster wins
wow that is actually fascinating behaviour, that touch and taste thing. I thought spiders had bad eyesight so the moment some unknown tremor hits the webbing they pounce and administer the lethal injection before the tasting.

It's the hairs of the house spider that had the redbacks detered at the start. You can think of it like a suit of armor made of needles. That is just a theory, worth testing imo.
