Mr. Fry You know that ding dong % isn't always guaranteed? Sometimes you either have too much rage or the character you're up against is too light. That's why Tweek didn't jump up after some cargo throws, because he knew it wouldn't work if he jumped. Ding Dong isn't that braindead, knowing percents play a huge part. It's hardly guaranteed if you don't "know" DK.
And MK's dash attack is pretty darn safe compared to grabs. It's honestly your fault if you're getting grabbed, while MK can just poke your shield and practically get away with it.

Lets be real though, Name a character that aint bullshit thats worth playing. Pit? Its not even like DK is a bad or a low tier and people are mad that some low tier won, he's a solid in his own right and gets tons off the smallest openings. personally Id just rather the game have less characters that are just bad for arbitrary reasons. Like Ike or Zelda, could they have not given them an actual movement or air speed, and its even worst in Ikes case because we have Cloud who is basically Ike but with options and without excessive lag
I love the amount of skill both players have to be able to play such honest characters and still win.

I love Donkey Kong in this game. Consistently killing with Ding Dong requires a ton of knowledge about character weights, percents, rage, and stage ceilings. People see DK players, who have dedicated a significant amount of time to learning all of this knowledge, killing with Ding Dong, and immediately whine that it requires no skill. Would everyone just rather DK be trash in this game like he used to be before his cargo up-throw was reworked? I think it's really cool that for the first time in the history of Smash Bros, the heavies are actually viable instead of bottom-tier.
This reminds me: We are out here complaining about no Smash for Switch, when Sakurai hasn't received a large-scale thank-you for the last 3 years of this game. This is literally the most balanced Smash game Nintendo has made, where you can see Link, Bowser, or DK in Winners Finals. And yet we haven't even had any sort of giveback to Nintendo. And then you wonder why Sakurai hates competitive. Just make a giant poster to celebrate the anniversary, it's not that hard...

The FungusFriend Mk kills at that percent also with a UpAir stream.
If you watch the whole set, you see how Leo dash attacked him at over 60% and he survived to his multiple up aerial and up B.
Maybe he kills lights or normal characters, but characters like DK don't die at that percent unless there is rage, which is something which rarely happen in this MU considering Meta Knight die at 60%...

starpix777 am I the only one who found this set not hype? Mk just fishes for dash attack and can get the kill, where dk fishes for a grab attack and can get a kill. It's super predictable and boring because both of these characters have such bs kill confirms.
But that's the reason why is hype.
I don't get why people hate kill confirm so much. And yes is fun to watch those 2 characters fight because those 2 players are very aggressive and can close stock very fast.

How fucking close Leo was to breaking the curse though. I truly believe if he won this set, he would've won his own saga. He would've had all the momentum and would play so safe and smart and just play really good because of that. If he beat Ken though and made it to grand finals, I'll be honest, not sure if he would've beat Tweek again coming from losers. That would be very hard. So close. Such a good tournament. Leo definitely gave up game 5 after the first stock. Especially when he was in kill percent. Sad. Grabbed at 52% and you're dead, not even 100% rage? Imagine max rage too... That's pretty ridiculous. I think his design is a little jank. They should definitely buff him in other ways.
DK max rage actually kill at 40% characters like Meta Knight. DK may have all problems he has, but he is still a ridiculus strong character.
Yeah, he messed up a bit. But DK has some pretty crippling weaknesses too, so it evens out.
He tried to often to land with an offensive tactic against a character who get so much out of grabs.
More over I don't think Bowser or DK with those grab combos are broken or anything. It's a high risk high reward play.
If you play good and patiently you can outplay DK so hard with some characters. I mean.... look at Salem vs. Hikaru in this tournament. Patience, stage control - easy game easy life.
Leo could do this too, but he's to offensive sometimes - a little bit like Nairo, he has the same problem.
Anyway I don't get why people think a heavy punish at around 60% (percent you will need without rage) from a heavy character to a light weight character is questionable, while a easy to land punish with a stupidly fast dash attack or a catch with an uair i little bit above the stage from a lightweight can kill a heavy character at around 70-75% (without rage too), is okay.
I think Leo just got overexcited or something - he overdone it. So you get outplayed.
1) Salem VS Hikaru was not even close to be an easy victory. Watch it again, in a best of 3, they were at last game last stock, and Salem was in kill percent for the ding dong. If Hikaru only got one more grab, he would have won.
2) MKleo was too aggressive? Well, can i ask what even he is supposed to do with Meta Knight? He seriusly can only dash attack and dash grab, i watched the set more times, and is not like MKLeo wasn't pacient.
DK outrange Meta Knight pretty massively, you can't camp with Meta Knight, in this MU the aggressive style is the best choise, you have to keep DK in the air or off stage and preassure him hard
3) Let's be serius. This is not the first time MKLeo lose to a DK. He lost at least 20 times only last season, is not a question of "overexcited", because he lost multiple times against a DK even in pools.
So much jank, the most jank I've seen in a set.

I feel like Leo should be more "suicidal" in set point situations, he lost both of his sets just because he chose not to upb in some key moments which could have potentially granted him the tournament

SomedayGamin Not the point, he's still a human and can still make mistakes, such as missing a sweetspot, at some point in game 4 iirc he could have chose to suicide upb and if he got the sweetspot with the first hit the second one would have definitely killed, he just decided to play it safe and not risk throwing the game had he failed, it's not the first time he does this and it likely won't be the last, I'm just saying when you're playing against someone who can comeback an entire set from one single opportunity, and someone you're not comfortable playing at that, you need to keep some cold blood and bet it all

"Only VS DK crew" no, even if you look at his set against Nairo Bowser you can see how he struggle a lot. At the very least, Leo won some games with Tweek DK even if not a set, but in this season, Nairo Bowser is 3-0 against MKleo in games

Why is everyone bitching about DK? It doesn’t matter how powerful the ding-dong is. He has to get the grab in the first place, which can be very difficult to do against certain characters or players.
Tweek EARNED those punishes. He was able to find the opportunities where Leo left himself open to a grab, and he took advantage.
Every player gets grabbed at least 2 or 3 times a stock with any characters, but the reward isn't the same for DK.
Vinson Games sure everyone gets grabbed a time or two during the match, but the point is, DK players need to get the grabs at the right time, right percentage window I mean, to really net the ding dong. Yes it's a very good confirm, but I think the impetus is on all players to learn the matchup, as they say, and make the grabs hard to get. DK players know the rage, enemy percent, and stage data for the ding dong, if anybody is serious about smash, they would learn how it works too and just make sure that they give DK more rage, or take some percent damage or whatever to make the ding dong untrue.
And how many times Leo died from it? You're saying this as if it's hard to get that confirm.
DK gets combo'd so hard and has such a hard time getting back on stage that I can forgive ding dong. In fact, I think it's his saving grace from making him low tier.
That's the point, the reason why DK is considered high tier is only because of ding dong. If he didn't have it, he'll be bottom tier, all from just one confirm that gave him a jump on the tier list.
Like I agree that DK deserves the ding dong for his disadvantage, but it's still jank if you look at it alone. And yes, he does need it, but that doesn't mean Ding Dong is balanced.

That ending for game 3 was nuts tweek actually could have won with a re grab off the platform since mkleo mashed airdodge. Also PSA don’t airdodge if dk C.U.T’s (cargo up throws) it won’t save you. You’ll only escape if the dk player messes up, does not read DI, or if you’re out of percent. Air dodging gives the DK players free insane mix up like the 9 wind set up tweek barely missed.

It's a 50/50 on some characters (usually fast fallers, I think) after ding dong stops being true. If they try to jump away an immediate up air will kill them, and if they air dodge a delayed up air will kill them.

I disagree on mk winning the mu. He’s very light and fast faller, meaning he’s particularly prone to getting donged. He can’t really easily edgeguard dk, because upb is just busted. He doesn’t have a way to land safely vs dk, unless he goes for the ff nair crossup. His kill power is good but dk is heavy af. Meanwhile, he’s severely outranged and outdamaged by dk, and his neutral game is predictable to the point that dk can just pivot grab vs his dash attack and get free punishes. This mu is, imho, 50/50 AT BEST, if not straight in dk’s favor.
Fuck i can´t believe the comment section, are we really gonna complain about a char being broken anythime MkLeo or Nairo or Ally or ZeRo lose... there arent broken chars on the game just bad char matchups and bad players mathcups, deal with it...
