anne murray is from springhill, nova scotia...she was only 26 when she sang that song and it was her first hit song...she has 5 brothers and she is the only girl....her father was a doctor and her mother a nurse...you should listen to "you needed me" she has so many good songs and has won so many awards in canada and the US...and her hits were a crossover...she sang with Johnny Cash too...

Anne Murray's voice is only matched by Karen Carpenter. Anne's version of Annie's Song is exquisite. Love Song, Can I Have This Dance and You Needed Me are just a few of her million selling songs. You owe it to yourself to react to more Anne Murray

Anne Murray! Words that come to mind are elegance, class! It's a shame that she doesn't get the attention that she deserves.
She was not strictly a country singer. Anne had great crossover appeal.

You need to do "A Little Good News". A song that is as relevant today (if not more so) then it was when it was first released in 1983.

"Snowbird" is a song written by Canadian singer-songwriter Gene MacLellan. The song was a No. 2 hit on Canada's pop chart and went to No. 1 on both the Canadian adult contemporary and country charts. The song reached No. 8 on the U.S. pop singles chart, spent six weeks at No. 1 on the U.S. adult contemporary chart, and became a surprise Top 10 U.S. country hit as well. It was certified as a gold single by the RIAA, the first American Gold record ever awarded to a Canadian solo female artist. It peaked at No. 23 on the UK Singles Chart. In 2003 it was an inaugural song inductee of the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame. The song is about freedom and escape, imho. The "snowbird" is being used as a metaphor of the freedom to move on. Funny story about this song, my boss (station owner where I DJ) dislikes Anne Murray. So when I am pissed off at him, I play this song every hour I am on. Thanks for the reaction Don. This is why I disagree with your ratings often, because a song with all these accolades only gets a 8.8 and songs that don't even chart get a 10 🙂

I always like Anne Murray's voice, and this song in particular. She also had a hit with 'Good News,' a social commentary song that is sadly as relevant to our society today as it was in the 1980s.

Super! Love Anne Murray, great Canadian, and great song from 1970. By the way fiddle and violin are the same instrument, it's just a matter of the style of playing. You are right about string preferences - the type of strings preferred by classical violinists -- gut or synthetic-core -- vs. the steel core strings typically chosen by fiddlers (and electric violinists) who prize the sharp, crisp sound those strings lend to the music. Some fiddle players prefer to have a flatter bridge instead of the more traditional arched bridge. The flatter bridge decreases the angle between strings and allows two or more notes to be played at a time, which is desirable to many fiddlers. Thanks Don for the terrific reaction!

One of my favorite gals. One of a kind voice. She was popular especially in 70s but also still performs and had hits in the 80s as well. I love You Won't See Me, You Needed Me and Day dream Believer.😊 I recall seeing her first on Glen Campbell's Good Time Hour about 1970singing Snowbird. So glad for your reaction and being introduced to a real darling. Your interpretation is perfect!

Anne Murray is my favorite female singer. She has so many great songs. Please do, JUST ANOTHER WOMAN IN LOVE. I absolutely love that song. She also does a duet with my man Kenny Rogers called, IF I EVER FALL IN LOVE AGAIN. (Live version)
Those are my 2 recommendations to start you off on your Ann journey. 😊😊

An early memory is singing this in our house with my sister and my mum (both long gone, I was probably about 12 years old) whilst I was attempting to play it on an old bontempi keyboard. Thanks for the memory.

The one I love forever is UNTRUE. He may have cheated. That's the implication. Not her true love but she obviously loved him.
