I saw this when it came out on SCTV…… I was in tears laughing then as I am in tears laughing now. Eugene Levi is a scream. I remember going shopping after partying at the nightclub during the 80s and this takes me right there lol lol
I believe that's what they were parodying. Well, that and the whole neon, synthesizer, new wave aesthetic that has come to be associated with the 1980s.
Reminds me of Bonjour jeans commercials, and turned it into advertising dog food instead. Very European! So it is dog food, inspired by Bonjour jeans commercials at the same time.
@stupidstuffx -- Do a search for robot wrap sunglasses and fro robot visor sunglasses. They're still made, but they have some differences from the 80s originals. The dog's sunglasses had the lens removed, you'll have noticed. They're modelled after the robot in "The Day the Earth Stood Still."
So, it’s Eugene in the commercial, and John announcing at the end, but I wanna know who is doing the song vocals. I wanna know who is screaming, “DOGG FOOOOOD!!!” I’m guessing it’s Rick Moranis?
One of those Hi-Concept bits that turned out hilarious, but that would never have gotten past 99.9% of writers tables … only the über-Hipsters at SCTV could really get this level of angularity … tip of the hat to the composer with the "Looking For Clues" electro music: th-cam.com/video/92wCPfqyVbg/w-d-xo.html
Hm, I sorta remember the transition ads made way back when they actually stopped telling us what the advertised product is and does. It's like living in a slightly off simulation these days (way off in 2020 of course).
I have a medical condition where I have to watch the Poocharé commercial annually. You people are doing good work here.
You too? I swear, I thought I was the only one.
Now we need to form a support group.
analy?
fern Haloo - You might be preoccupied... not that there's anything wrong with that!
My dog's name is poochare...shes 7yrs old
SCTV got me through some tough times. I thank God I was able to experience their humor back in the 80s.
Them and THE GONG SHOW (in my case). Thank you Chuck Barris.
This is better than any actual commercial I've ever seen. Makes me want to give poochare a try myself.
I remember watching this at like 8 years old with my brother and we laughed so hard we remembered it for years and years!!!
My brother and I still joke about this skit in particular too, so memorable. We used to have sleep overs and stay up for SCTV.
I want to walk through the supermarket like he does.
Why don't you, are you paralyzed?
nothin is stoppin ya, my friend~

Who says you can't? Do it!
Summarizes an entire decade in less than a minute.
if someone asks what the 80s were just show them this video
Yeah, that's a fair approximation of what the 80s were like, in terms of fashion, music, and commercials.
The horror.
@@canaisyoung3601 new wave
The 80s on TV, I always wished to be this cool back then
I can’t agree with you more. This is the a epitome of the 80s
Was watching Schitt's Creek and had to take a break and watch this for the thousandth time.
I saw this when it came out on SCTV…… I was in tears laughing then as I am in tears laughing now. Eugene Levi is a scream.

Best dog food commercial. Ever.
Found this gem years ago watching dvds of the seasons I must have replayed it 25 times priceless work nice to see it on youtube
You'd never believe this is Eugene Levy, would you? Seriously. This is no weirder than the Max Headroom Coke commercials with Matt Frewer.
I believe that's what they were parodying. Well, that and the whole neon, synthesizer, new wave aesthetic that has come to be associated with the 1980s.
In a way, it's similar to "Uncle" Al(ain) Jourgensen performing the Shasta jingle in their commercials, whilst Ministry was in its infancy.
We named our dog after this 🤣
Music: I Wanna Rock You, by Giorgio Moroder
well spotted!
* I Wanna Dog Food
This is now my favorite Eugene Levy bit. Ever.
Reminds me of Bonjour jeans commercials, and turned it into advertising dog food instead. Very European! So it is dog food, inspired by Bonjour jeans commercials at the same time.
BONJOUR
ACTION
JEANS
I now walk like this in public.
at the height of the reign of New Wave music and videos of such
This is an old skit from SCTV. That's Eugene Levy (the dad from American Pie), and at the end, it's John Candy who does the voice over.
The best part of SCTV is knowing it was even funnier at the time.
That man is a legend in my book.
Ah ha ha! I forgot about this one! So funny! That is John Candy's voice at the end :)
I don't have a dog, but i want to buy this dog food! Take muh money now!
I laugh every time I view this. thanks
At the end it actually sounds like he's upset that its a dog food commercial, haha.
haha Eugene levy at his best
Holy cow, I wish real commercials were this awesome!
back when a can like that cost 0.25

Now _that's_ dog food.
Time for me to listen to some Carole Pope and rough trade music
DAGMARRRRR
How could SCTV have so accurately predicated the People of Walmart?
Great spoof of late 70s/early 80s jeans commercials, like the ones for Jordache. Girls craved that chic designer name stamped on their asses.
I know just the one you're talking about, it was a Bonjour jeans commercial, they even made fun of the guy screaming at the end. 😂
Best joke commercial ever. Who knew the Canadians had such comedic factor?
SNL bites nearly everything from SCTV
He is so funny, and quite a versatile actor.
This is why I love Dog Food!
holy mother of god
The 80s were a great time but the intense fashions and MTV culture made it easy to make fun of too.
Because today's look of dressing like a scuzzy carnie with metal piercings in your face and a man bun is just too cool to ever make fun of
DOG FOOD!!!
Giorgio Moroder liked this.

For some reason this part used to get me into a fit of cackling laughter
So, it’s Eugene in the commercial, and John announcing at the end, but I wanna know who is doing the song vocals. I wanna know who is screaming, “DOGG FOOOOOD!!!” I’m guessing it’s Rick Moranis?
Good question !
I think it’s Eugene again
Eugene Levy at his coolest and sexiest!
Best part = 0:31
rip John Candy ;_;
Very extreme for a Dog food commercial
literally every second of this is a important lol.
Love the Song By Giorgio Moroder This Commerical is hilarious.
I Wanna Rock You!
that is some crazy dog food...
The only food for the Royal's Corgi's, and Chuck's favorite snack.
@chickenmankel Whoops, I mean....... I Wanna Rock You - Giordio Moroder
Darrel Bruno. Did you do this commercial?
We do make the funniest comedians ^_^ 0:44 Without SCTV there would be NO SNL. Lorne Michaels.
I mean... you're not wrong...
I loved Sctv and SNL back then, now Snl sucks
😂fantastic!!!
Moroder's I Wanna Rock You just started playing on my Pandora and i swore it was this song

Now go watch the movie “Repo Men”, for the generic cans of food. Which the rest of us lived on.

the 1980s - when Girls had hair like their old mums or grans - Permed & Hideous . Cool Dog Food Ad 😃👍🐢❤️
The mums and grans of these women would've had way different hair. These were 'of the times" hip hair styles.
Original Zoolander.
I wonder if it's dog food...?

Remember when commercials were based on art and authenticity instead of patronizing bullshit?
