Not all Yes fans are excited about this album, but it’s always been one of my favorites. The production is so clean there are some really good numbers on here with the highlight for me being Shoot High Aim Low which is just a fantastic song and really unique. Enjoy!
It's nice to meet someone who knows Yes mainly from the 80s. For many old Yes fans, the band died at the latest in 1983 with the album 90125, because they turned away from the old prog rock. My favorite songs from this album (Big Generator) are "Shoot High Aim Low", "I'm Running" and "Final Eyes". If you'd like to hear something older, more gentle, "Turn Of The Century" from the album Going For The One (1977). A typical song by Yes is e.g. "Heart Of The Sunrise" from the album Yessongs (1973).
Shoot High Aim Low is great. I defended Rabin when a lot of the old fans were ripping in him. I had to laugh because when ARW was out touring everyone seemed to love him.
I go back to almost the beginning. They formed in 1968 and I've been on board since about 1971. I have a VERY large Yes collection and have seen them in concert a fair number of times. I accept every lineup of Yes clear up to the present and will continue to support them. They have a very fragmented fan base because there have been a LOT of members. You have barely even touched on the huge musical heritage this band has to offer.
It's nice that someone hears a song from this album. I think it's totally undervalued. My suggestion: A song from 1999 (album The Ladder) "Homeworld". The song is also way too good for nobody to hear it.
You can't go wrong with the 70's Yes ! The 1972 album Close To The Edge is maybe the best prog album ever ! The best songs on Big Generator are Shoot High Aim Low and Final Eyes.
Wakeman noted in an interview that the sounds they created in Cloae to Edge on the tech they had at the time is "something I honestly don't know how we did it."
This is a very good song, Yes is my favorite band. However, most Yes fans put this album low on the list of Yes albums, it is great live though. I suggest starting with Roundabout, I've Seen All Good People, then blow your mind with Close To the Edge and the other songs from that album.
Well you're firmly into eighties Yes here with Big Generator, the follow up album to 90125, hoping to recreate the success of Owner of a Lonely Heart. The 2 songs aimed at that success were this one and Love Will Find a Way. Geddy Lee has said that Rush would not have been Rush without the influence of Yes and Chris Squire on bass. Geddy stood in in for Chris on their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Rush, Dream Theater and Tool have all stated many times how much Yes influenced their music. 80's Yes is great, the track selections below are all valid suggestions to which I would add Brother of Mine from the ABWH album of 1989 and Endless Dream from the Talk album of 1994 I believe. Really you need to go back to the early seventies and start with 'Roundabout' to understand them. Especially if you want to hear amazing Bass work. Enjoy 😊
You must also know Yes - Roundabout from the Fragile (1972) album. If not, you are the one who comes from another planet and you should correct that right now ! 😂
YES is my favorite group. I subscribe to anyone who reacts to them because I want others to discover their great talent and the best Progressive rock music. My number one favorite is "The Gates of Delirium" with "Close to the Edge" an extremely close second. Studio versions only. It's pretty hard to reproduce those live. "Roundabout" is awesome too. They have loads of good songs. And their music is complex not the usually short songs. "Close to the Edge" is a masterpiece. On par with classical music like Beethoven. Every note is just right. The lyrics are mystical and spiritual with the interpretation up to the listener like a Picasso painting. A couple of others include "Turn of the Century ', 'Starship Trooper" "The Revealing Science of God" - live version from The Keys to Ascension album is another great one. One of my favorite live ones is "Awaken" : th-cam.com/video/nDXccU0xgNo/w-d-xo.html . Keep the YES music coming!!
Loved this album, I dont think yes in all their guises ever did a bad album except the last two. i.e. heaven and earth and the quest. They were not really by yes I feel, even though Im a lifelong fan.
I think of this as the last great Yes album - favorite on this album are Shoot High Aim Low. You should check out Roundabout from 1971. Trevor Rabin is the guitarist - a super star - and current movie soundtrack composer. Chris Squire on Bass - one of the best of all times. Playing a Tobias bass on this song.
Fun fact: the director of the video for this AWESOME song is Alex Proyas, he of "The Crow," "Dark City," "I, Robot," and "Knowing" fame. OK, next you need to go back in time to "Roundabout," then come back to this album for "Love Will Find A Way."
You should definitely check out The 70's Yes! The Yes Album then Fragile and Close to the Edge and Tales from Topographic Oceans and Relayer and Going for the One then Tormato! All these albums are before the 80's Yes! Definitely different from the 80's!
Yes’s most famous song is ROUNDABOUT which is very different from this very 80’s sound and then you should listen to Siberian Khatru and Heart of the Sunrise before attempting their epic 18 minute Close To The Edge ; enjoy !!
I like both versions of Yes and both versions definitely represent their time periods very well. But I do prefer Bill Bruford's drumming style and Steve Howe's guitar magic. An early Yes remake of the Simon & Garfunkel's "America" is something you can't unhear once you've heard it. Check out the 2003 remastered studio version of the song. Enjoy!
I know your a big fan of prog rock like Rush and of course Yes. Do yourself a favor and check out 1983 Yes masterpiece 90125, it's a step or two above Big Generator.
OK Tony - you’re listening to some great music… but to really appreciate its time to give up the earbuds and get some real classy headphone to immerse yourself in the sound. You will thank yourself for doing so as keep on the Rush and Yes trains.
Not all Yes fans are excited about this album, but it’s always been one of my favorites. The production is so clean there are some really good numbers on here with the highlight for me being Shoot High Aim Low which is just a fantastic song and really unique. Enjoy!
I also like the album. I like the older Yes from the 70s too, but for some reason I tend to listen to the newer ones more often.
This is one of my favorite albums from Yes. Shame that it is so underappreciated by fans.
All of the Rabin albums are excellent.. Talk especially
It's nice to meet someone who knows Yes mainly from the 80s. For many old Yes fans, the band died at the latest in 1983 with the album 90125, because they turned away from the old prog rock. Shoot High Aim Low is great. I defended Rabin when a lot of the old fans were ripping in him. I had to laugh because when ARW was out touring everyone seemed to love him.
Freshman year of College. Dorm room antics and great memories! I can literally transport myself to that place with this song.
Look at every song from this album
Indeed
"Climbing up your ladder, I keep faaaalling down."
Aim high, Shoot Low is the best song from this album, other great 80’s songs from Yes include Changes and City of Love

If you like Rhythm of Love, You'll love TEMPUS FUGIT and GOING FOR THE ONE !
It's nice that someone hears a song from this album. I think it's totally undervalued. My suggestion: A song from 1999 (album The Ladder) "Homeworld". The song is also way too good for nobody to hear it.
Killer album, 90125 as well.
Yeah, they killed Yes for me.
Great album saw them live for this tour in 1988 Love will find a way another great song from this album,
You can't go wrong with the 70's Yes ! The 1972 album Close To The Edge is maybe the best prog album ever ! The best songs on Big Generator are Shoot High Aim Low and Final Eyes.
I second Shoot High, Aim Low, but Love Will Find a Way over there others imho
Wakeman noted in an interview that the sounds they created in Cloae to Edge on the tech they had at the time is "something I honestly don't know how we did it."
Trevor Rabin (guitarist) had a solo album you might wanna check out. Try the title track, “Can’t Look Away”. I think it’s right up your alley.
Oh man I totally forgot about that great tune.
roundabout
and you, and I
bass is filthy?
Chris Squire.
Geddy Lee knew him...
Yes is like a new country, if that's your first listen.
Been a while since I’ve seen you post anything. Hope all is well. You might as well review EVERY song on Big Generator! Awesome album.
LOVE that album. Still have my pin from that tour in Buffalo 😀. "Final Eyes" is a MUST from that album.
This is a very good song, Yes is my favorite band. However, most Yes fans put this album low on the list of Yes albums, it is great live though. I suggest starting with Roundabout, I've Seen All Good People, then blow your mind with Close To the Edge and the other songs from that album.
Great opening number that tour.

R.I.P. Alan White
Incredible track, production masterclass. So much music in every second
Side note rush related kinda,YYNOT a song called Etheria. Please give a listen.
You must also know Yes - Roundabout from the Fragile (1972) album. If not, you are the one who comes from another planet and you should correct that right now ! 😂
Great song. Love 70s and 80s Yes. "I'm Running " and "Shoot High, Aim Low" off Big Generator are good ones too.
Dude, you are awesome! Your use of the word filthy is classic!
YES is my favorite group. I subscribe to anyone who reacts to them because I want others to discover their great talent and the best Progressive rock music. Temazo!!! Gran reacción. No haz hecho aún Owner of a lonely heart?
If you like YES, from this era, do….DOES IT REALLY HAPPEN from the DRAMA album, great Chris Squire Bass
How about Miracle of Life
Loved this album, I dont think yes in all their guises ever did a bad album except the last two. i.e. heaven and earth and the quest. They were not really by yes I feel, even though Im a lifelong fan.
Trevor rabin is the guitarist on this album check out the other great song on this album called' love will find a way '
Yes changes is awesome
I think of this as the last great Yes album - favorite on this album are Shoot High Aim Low. You should check out Roundabout from 1971. Trevor Rabin is the guitarist - a super star - and current movie soundtrack composer. Chris Squire on Bass - one of the best of all times. Playing a Tobias bass on this song.
Last great Yes album was Going for the One (excluding the god awful cover).
Fun fact: the director of the video for this AWESOME song is Alex Proyas, he of "The Crow," "Dark City," "I, Robot," and "Knowing" fame.
OK, next you need to go back in time to "Roundabout," then come back to this album for "Love Will Find A Way."
If you do this track you have to do "Love will find a Way" the full version with strings intro
you are correct sir, That bass is filthy.
You should definitely check out The 70's Yes! The Yes Album then Fragile and Close to the Edge and Tales from Topographic Oceans and Relayer and Going for the One then Tormato! All these albums are before the 80's Yes! Definitely different from the 80's!
YES! 😊
theres always been division between the Rabin and Howe fans. Fact is these albums brought new fans for the band
More Yes!!
Some love for Alan White on drums please.
Yes’s most famous song is ROUNDABOUT which is very different from this very 80’s sound and then you should listen to Siberian Khatru and Heart of the Sunrise before attempting their epic 18 minute Close To The Edge ; enjoy !!
Master Piece un the Catalogue of YES
Ck out 70’s yes
Everything from the "90125"-album. Apart from "Owner Of A Lonely Heart". Please. And do "Starship Troopers".
Enjoy!
Now you're talking.
I know your a big fan of prog rock like Rush and of course Yes. Do yourself a favor and check out 1983 Yes masterpiece 90125, it's a step or two above Big Generator.
If you love the 80’s YES, then...
Leave It
Changes
Absolutely anything from Big Generator
Try to react Endless Dream by Yes. It is FIRE 🔥 The song is the last song on the, "Talk, " released in 1994.
Not really a terrible choice for your first reaction to Yes but there are a ton more from the 70s.
Do yourself a favor and get into the real element of Yes with their 70s genius instrumentals.
It occurs to me that this is basically a three-chord song...
OK Tony - you’re listening to some great music… but to really appreciate its time to give up the earbuds and get some real classy headphone to immerse yourself in the sound. You will thank yourself for doing so as keep on the Rush and Yes trains.
Not loud enough!! 😛
Have you stolen my collection? Wow. Pulling Big Generator out - not many paid attention to this album - it has some under-rated tunes
You need to turn your mic down.
Good tune, but probably the weakest on the whole album IMO. Check out "Shoot High, Aim Low" or "I'm Running".
weak and tame pop music compared to their early 70s stuff
Don't know why these keep showing up in my feed. I don't even like the Trevor Rabin era.
