Even if the name is slightly different by one syllable and even across clans that are not particularly close to each other (distance-wise and devotion-wise). I guess it's too cold up there to put in the effort to come up with an original name. lol It makes keeping up with different people difficult.

Catlyn committed treason which is punishable by death. Robb treated the Karstarks poor.y as he failed to recognise a fathers grief to be the same as his mothers. The man was robbed of his vengeance when Catlyn freed Jaime, and Robb refused to enact punishment for her betrayal.
probably won't be like the show considering the only reason Umber forces are on Boltons side in the books is because Greatjon Umber is a hostage and even then some Umbers join Stannis forces with the demand that the Umbers fighting for Boltons will be pardoned.

This is an interesting issue now in the show. I'm really hoping that not only are the Manderlys and Umbers (no matter what it looks like in the preview) are playing the long game but that Karstark might basically be in a potential civil war with itself. And maybe since I think there are no Thenne with these Wildlings and unless Tormund is interested someone advises Jon he ought to marry Alice and expand Stark territory to start to get near Dreadfort.

I mean, given that Rickon was King of the North by birthright, what Smalljon did couldn't be seen as anything other than a monstrous betrayal. I doubt they'll elaborate on any of this, and there's no way in hell the book will be in any way similar, so it'll probably be pure speculation as to how the North is divided, assuming they have any chance to divide it before the Others come.
