      L ove, thanks for watching and your comment. One in 3 hours is a lot of work. If you sent this weekend, the low tides were not good for razors. However the rest of this week looks great for razors.
      Where did you go? It’s quite possible that when and where you went, the tide wasn’t our far enough for the clams, especially this late in the season.
      Check out www.razorclamming.com for tides, locations and bast days to go. The lowest tide of the year so far is on Thursday! Woohoo!

    Do you know if Seaside is open right now for clamming? Can I just use a shovel?

    • @DADventurerNW
      @DADventurerNW  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      John, thanks for watching and your question. Yes Seaside is open for razor clamming. You can certainly use a clam shovel if you don’t have a clam gun. There’s a specific technique with the shovel and there are some good videos on TH-cam on how to do it successfully. I can tell you first hand that the weather at the coast today is miserable but supposed to be sunny tomorrow! Good luck.

      DIY USA, thanks for watching and your comments. Seaside is awesome for razor clamming. Most of the numbered streets dead end at the beach. Some even have parking lots and bathrooms with hose bibs to rinse your feet and gear off.

      @@DIYUSA Any time. If you don’t already have a clam gun, spend the money to get a good one. I have the Claminator and the technology built into it makes pulling the gun out of the sand 100 times easier than the cheaper guns that will make your back sore as hell the next day. I'm looking at the LaCrosse Alpha Agility boots for general clamming/foraging. Would you recommend a different model or do you think I'm dialed in? Thanks for another great video!

    • @DADventurerNW
      @DADventurerNW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rick Mottola, for beach clamming, any rubber boot will work. If you go in the bay, the sand/mud can be very deep and sticky so something like waders may be better.
      For foraging in the woods, waterproof hunting or hiking boots are best because you will be on uneven and slopes ground as well as crossing creeks, etc. I hope this helps.

    Hi, do I need a permit to dig up clams? Can a shovel be used as well??

    • @DADventurerNW
      @DADventurerNW  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Koriko, yes you need a shellfish permit to dig for any shellfish in Oregon. Most people use a clam gun like we use in the video but some people also use narrow clam shovels dig for razors. A garden shovel would be difficult to use.
      However, the northern half of the oregon coast is currently closed to razor clam digging. Same for much of Washington. Check the ODFW website for updates before going out.

    Where is the exact location in Seaside is this?

    • @DADventurerNW
      @DADventurerNW  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thang Dang, thanks for watching. The exact location is in middle of Seaside, Oregon. Once you hit the city of Seaside, follow any of the many side streets that go to the beach, park and walk out into o the beach. The entire beach has razor clams. Just look where other people are digging and find a spot that hasn’t been picked over and start looking for the clams. They aren’t hard to find.
      However, the season is closed now due to the biotoxins in the clams. Not sure when it will reopen. Check the Oregon Shellfish hotline.

      Hello Drew Child, I believe you can rent clam guns in Seaside or Cannon Beach, but they aren't too expensive to purchase. If you get a good one, it should last you a lifetime and pay for itself in one or two outings.

      Inhoung, thank you for watching and your support. I appreciate it. Razor clamming is pretty easy once you know where abs how to find them, then it’s all muscle!
      You don’t need to wait until summer. In fact, there are some minus tides later this month and I’ll be down hunting for a razor limit. If you get a clam gun, get a good one and it will last you a lifetime. I like the Claminator, as it’s stainless steel and has a unique design that makes pulling the gun out of the sand a hundreds times easier than with the cheaper aluminum guns. And it only takes a few limits to cover the cost of the gun. Amazon has them in 3 sizes.
      Just have a look at the upcoming tides and find your spot between Cannon Beach and Fort Stevens and you should be golden. Good luck and thanks for subscribing.

      @@DADventurerNW Thanks, I appreciate the great tips! Used to be a semi local, but now out of state. About once every couple of years in the summers, we visit family, go fishing, crabbing and clamming, but never done razor clamming before. Until the summer time, before season closes, I will have to look into the razor gun you suggested and do more research on some the areas.
