The combination of Homer (Dan Castellaneta), his new pet pig, and a leaky silo full of excrement triggers a disaster that threatens not just Springfield but the entire world. An angry mob descends on the Simpson home, splitting the family. With Earth's fate in the balance, Homer sets out on a quest for redemption in order to save the world and earn Marge's (Julie Kavner) forgiveness.

This is not only a great movie, it also feels like the last great Hurrah for The Simpsons in general. But since this film was a smash hit at the box office, with half a billion worldwide, it shows that they’re still extremely popular, a reason why it’s still on the air today, and it seems like it isn’t going to go anywhere anytime soon.

I grew up in Alaska and was in Alaska when I saw this movie. The whole theater erupted in cheers when Homer showed they were going to Alasla 😂 They had artists from Alaska to help draw the landscapes in the Alaska scenes, and said artists told the writers they should drop the song and dance scene they were planning on making fun of Alaskas high rate of alcoholism and suicide 😬

    • @mrgonzale0978

do they still pay people to live in Alaska?

    • @danielpopp1526
      @danielpopp1526 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@mrgonzale0978 yeah. It's meant as an annual booster to the economy from the oil companies. One of the writers of the states constitution wanted to keep at least some of the oil money in Alaska, so they came up with the annual Permanent Fund Dividend. How much is paid out depends on how well it's invested, but unfortunately the state government has been using it for financial loans due to their bad management (they wouldn't need to if they stopped giving oil companies tax breaks). The existence of the PFD also prevents the creation of a state income tax and prevents residence from claiming mineral rights on their property (seeing as they're technically profiting from mineral right on land they don't own). The only people making big bucks of the oilfields, besides the oil companies, are the Native Alaskans living in nearby villages.

This is actually the first Simpsons anything I really watched
    I knew about the Simpsons
I just didn’t really give it a chance.
Was staying with a friend, and we were staying at his younger cousins house babysitting
    It was insane
Crazy that I had waited so long
    I was 16-17

I felt like ranting about Jake's mental health, so I will. Jake was always sorta paranoid after being cheated on, and being betrayed by his trusted friend makes it worse. His paranoia, however, actually makes him easier to manipulate because everyone knows he's paranoid. He never knows what to believe because ANYONE could be manipulating him. He definitely needs therapy and would likely benefit from anxiety medication. Honestly tho everyone on this show probably needs therapy, especially after the show

Would you believe that Russ Cargill is voiced by the same person who voiced Marlin from Finding Nemo? Also, during Marge's breakup with Homer, the voice actress, Julie Kavner, was purportedly asked to repeat this same line over and over, presumably as a means to express genuine exhaustion.

This Simpsons Movie back in 2007 sure didn’t hold back on the pop cultural references that happened in the early and mid 2000s. Glad you’ve covered this, Tim!
There was one known fact that the President was to be George W. Bush, but Matt Groening and his execs disagreed saying it would make the movie feel dated, so adding Schwarzenegger as President? A humorous plus if he moved on from governing California.

This was absolutely the best possible ending for this series.
    ...
    ...
So naturally they've gone on for 17 years after it! The series will only end when TWO of the following pass away, I'm sure: Dan Castellaneta, Julie Kavner, Nancy Cartwright and Yeardley Smith. And only one of them is over 70. (They've proven that they're willing and able to replace anyone else in the cast. Maude Flanders got killed off because the voice actress wanted more money. They've recast Hank Azaria's minority characters except Apu -- no actor of any Indian ancestry wants to _take_ the role of Apu, which these days would be the only way to move forward, but I digress -- but that really opens the door for them to recasting everything else he or anyone else does, doesn't it? But basically any show that has Fair For Its Day entries on TV Tropes from the 80's that's on in 2024 is seriously never going to end. And I'm shocked that Dan Castellaneta even had time to be the other voice of the Genie (as recently as 2008, because even when Robin Williams came back, video games didn't have Robin Williams money, but I further digress), and it's a good thing none of the core four are sick of the show or want to do other stuff.
