You should track down another 2 books from Bernays: Public Relations and Crystallizing Public Opinion. They are so truly insightful (and to me terrifying) and are articles written to various heads of corporations and publications. They are short and easy to read and you can find copies of them on Amazon for cheap. It's amazing to me how these social engineers view humanity with such disdain that they feel the need to manipulate and control at such a basic level. It is one thing to devise advertising and marketing to sell products after the industrial revolution, but to contort those same techniques to control every action and mindset of a populace is just...beyond words. Abby is right, though, Bernays thought these people were heros to for controlling so many.
Edward Bernay took his cues from his uncle, Sigmund Freud, a disturbed individual who only thought the worst of humanity. He believed that if people weren't governed within firm social structures, they would create havoc of the world.
