As someone who can play both in a disciplined manner of racing and playstyle of racing here, you really have to know what's acceptable in those two different worlds. Complaining about burning and blocking on the common boost-on race here in WMMT will label you as a crybaby. Arcade racing is a genre that means a lot to me, brings back so many good memories of playing some of the old greats like sega rally with friends during high school and even long before then with games like burnout. Maximum Tune has really rekindled that love for me since I started playing 6 back in early 2020 and it has helped me build new friendships and I’m forever grateful for that
I didn't "get" the fun of Wangan Midnight compared to something like Initial D until I watched this video. Thank you for showing how much fun it can be!
Wangan Midnight (plus Maximum Tune), Tokyo Xtreme Racer and Kaido Battle (Drift spin off of TXR), is pretty much car fighting game but you cannot hit the opponent because it also takes away your life bar too.
It makes me wonder what if wmmt has sp battles too that only decreases by collisions. How would that change how players play the game? Then again it would feel really bad having your run end early because of it but i am curious
The only bad thing that came out from this kind of play style is that it's going to wreck the machines to the point it can't be used, and the worst of all some players will brag about it as an achievement
In Malaysia, all machines in Midvally mall has their FFB taken away, or even manual gear straight up broken thanks to those type of people with that play-style.
I hope this video will make the game more popular worldwide :) I've been playing it since WMMT3DX and I hope that this game will stay alive for years to come :)
I used to play this game quite a lot, but lost interest during the pandemic and never recovered. I probably spent over 50k PHP in total playing from WMMT 3 to 5. I even joined a local team in Cebu and watched the tourney back in 2019. Fun times!
Yes. The most important part to improve your skills is to have fun. And it's not since 5DX+. It's since WMMT released in 2004. I myself had played this game since the very 1st version, WMMT1. It's been 20 years i had started playing this game and i am still playing as it's hard to quit playing. Had my fair share of good and bad in this game.
Glad to see I'm not the only one that think Maxi Tune is a fighting game. Personally speaking I don't engage in the fighting aspect; I'm a clean racer. Sure I might be boring for not partaking in the fight, but the feeling of passing someone that is defending real hard with zero effort is gratifying.
man, the rush of this game keeps me going, just to prove my buddy that skill beats meta. even though i always race the living legend himself, it doesn't stop me trying to get a winstreak
I played this game from elementary school and actually start from WMMT3DX+ to WMMT6. I meet many player they're agressive when playing but they actually pretty chill and i like R34 and Leopard its really dream car
It's so addictively unique. Just think about it, what other car game literally incentivizes you to ram into your opponents? When you think of vehicular combat you think of... Twisted Metal? Burnout? This game takes vehicular combat, but still emphasizes clean lines and drifting. There's really nothing like it, and unfortunately I think the developers are pretty terrible. They have these pretty regular version updates. 5, 5DX, 5DX+, 6, 6R, 6RR, 6RR+. These are all different versions of the game, but the actual content added is so miniscule it's embarrassing. 6RR+ literally introduces ONE single car, the newest Nissan Z. I can't remember the last time we actually got a new map. They also have a weird habit of REMOVING some features from versions to versions like stickers that players earned, or extreme mode. It's just strange, it could be amazing. But you better enjoy the game as-is, because the updates are always disappointing. If you're from North America, don't expect updates ever. Enjoy 5DX+ (it's the best version anyways.)
Man I remember I wanted to play this game so badly. I found an arcade 2-3 hours away that had all the japanese games, and some friends and I went. I was pretty much glued to the machine that day, I took breaks from just to try the other interesting games they had. Another arcade recently opened up that's closer so I've been playing it there. Haven't gone in awhile though.
i think this game is the longest game i've ever played. its been almost +- 17 years (since wmmt2) and its still fun to play in the weekend alone or with friends
I wasn't too into the WMMT scene when I was actively playing, but even then just casually playing off against other players was an experience in and of itself. Had some intense moments, sometimes nothing had to be said - the race said it all, for better or worse. Stopped playing for a bunch of reasons, though. -First was having my wallet stolen, which contained, among other things, my Banapassport. It held my JZA80 from the original 3DX+ tuning card, which I would drive in 5DX+ and 6RR.- (JUST found my Banapassport, it was in a different wallet) Second is just the slowly rising cost per race. Or just per any arcade game period. It's a lot more expensive over here -_-
Here in America, WMMT is nonexistent. Wish I could find a cabinet and terminal out in the wild, but every arcade just has the same Cruisn Blast cabinets which don't even come close to the Maximum Tune games.
I love WMMT. I played since WMMT 3. Played WMMT 3dx+ in the philippines and destroyed everyone at the age of 12 because I understood how to block. I play 5dx+ (This is as far as the US goes), tournaments now are always 3 hours away, so I could never go, but when we had local tournaments, everyone knew me as the one with the Mazda rx7 FB who was able to destroy those using an FD or r32. In the end, I've made a lot of friends just because of this game. A new arcades opening up near me with WMMT and I'm stoked because we're probably going to bring back tournaments.
6:30 as a owner of a rb25det c35 laurel i NEED to play this game, but theres literally no arcades in my country anymore. The only other game where the c35 laurel exists is tokyo xtreme racer drift 2 :(
Fun fact its cheap to play in USA if you be friend your local Round 1 janitor. that man for me is the goat. every time I come he hooks me up with like 30 plays for free if hes on the clock
@@shelltoe_soul helps if you have a cool car and you see one already playing it. in my case I saw the jany playing when I went and commented on his driving starting a conversation. After he finished his race and had a break I took him out to the parking lot and showed him my honda beat. Once we were done he offered the free plays as a token of his thanks and anytime I head to the arcade I hit him up and ask if he wants to do a couple runs. Great system for me lol probably saved like 500$ at least with it and I don't even play that often.
Playing WMMT clean is very punishing. But if you can beat someone cleanly with minimal ramming or contact, its just always so satisfying. As a plus, if you dont aim to fight your opponent like most WMMT players do you're usually more easy on the machine too, and if you're a regular in an arcade with that kind of driving style you'd usually be more favoured with the staffs as, you know, you dont slam the steering wheel every corner and breaking the machines so badly with aggressive gearshifting that everyone else cant have fun with the manual transmission mode anymore.
Yes, I always try to drive cleanly and let opponents pass when they have a clear advantage despite being an Evo IX main, with all of the negative stigma that comes with it. FALSIE is right in that you shouldn't pick whatever car is meta, you should always pick your favourite dream car. It's why I picked the Evo IX back in 3DX+ as my first car and still drive it, despite learning that it was a VS meta after a couple week or so.
Also fuck players who treats any arcade machines harshly, SO MANY classic arcade machines I've come across like Sega Rally ALWAYS have their shifters broken and it is infuriating.
@@ScribbleVEVO I picked a 370Z back in 3DX+, then moved to an Impreza WRX STi, then in 5 up to now I main a SLS AMG made to look like a GT3 car. Idc meta tbh, almost all cars behave the same to me
@@ScribbleVEVO that's me picking a Z31 because I liked seeing those in the magazines haha. If I did go back playing 6RR I'd probably be choosing the Levorg or a funny Wagon, or one of the Lancers (regardless of the meta)
@@ScribbleVEVOAnother clean WMMT player here (but plays much more occasionally now, never had a BANAPASSPORT card). I've managed to beat some Guest players (as a Guest player myself as well) without needing to resort to vehicular violence. However, the moment somebody else keeps trying to block me every single time, it's no more Mr. Nice Guy for me (I just block back, no ramming). In terms of car choice, I have a tendency to pick 5-speed cars that are unheard of for the average public, like an RX-7 FC3S, a Lancer Evo VI, etc. That and also that I may encounter a machine where the shifter was damaged to the point I can only use odd-numbered gears. Otherwise, I'd pick anything else.

played WMMT5DX when visiting the US because there are no arcades in my country i live in. Absolute blast and quality time but it makes me even sadder we dont have arcades. Back to the emulator i go.
Bruh when that guy u tailgated said "Tangnamo wala kong makita" i just bursted into laughter. I just love how filipino complains about something but ends up being funny 🤣🤣
I recently went to round 1 for the first time when my friend visited my state, man we only have 5dx+ in america but I had so much fun to the point I consistently have every crown there
Also I ignore the metas, I have achieved all crowns with the pajero and the Mercedes Benz 190e Evo 2. Game is so fun whenever I run into new clans or teams and my friend and I fighting them
Currently playing through WMMT5DX+ on PC, one of the best arcade driving games after MW 2005. The car choice is astonishing and the sense of speed is insane! Damn i hate it that no arcade has it or 6RR here in Europe!

It makes me wonder what if wmmt has sp battles too that only decreases by collisions. How would that change how players play the game? Then again it would feel really bad having your run end early because of it but i am curious
@@demon-x3250it'd definitely become Tekken but cars
@@muladiajisasmito1361 except the one doing the ramming gets more damage lol
The only bad thing that came out from this kind of play style is that it's going to wreck the machines to the point it can't be used, and the worst of all some players will brag about it as an achievement
In Malaysia, all machines in Midvally mall has their FFB taken away, or even manual gear straight up broken thanks to those type of people with that play-style.
Been playing since around 2004 and its my all time favorite game.
Cool video!! I don't even live in the Philippines and got this recommended - ahh I wish this game was here xD
I live in NA and this makes me happy and sad at the same time. Cheers!
"get out there visit the arcade & try this game out" well well well i found out that in my ENTIRE COUNTRY theres only 3 wangan machine...
Glad to see I'm not the only one that think Maxi Tune is a fighting game. Personally speaking I don't engage in the fighting aspect; I'm a clean racer. Sure I might be boring for not partaking in the fight, but the feeling of passing someone that is defending real hard with zero effort is gratifying.
i wish the initial d arcade was also this popular 😭
man, the rush of this game keeps me going, just to prove my buddy that skill beats meta. even though i always race the living legend himself, it doesn't stop me trying to get a winstreak
I have finally found this game again
This is the type of racing game we need
Quiet the underrated channel Ive stumbled upon!
We need more videos like this tbh. Keep up the good work!
i think this game is the longest game i've ever played. its been almost +- 17 years (since wmmt2) and its still fun to play in the weekend alone or with friends
be me: bought a new banapass because i forgot my old one
goes on PVP with my stock ass RX-8
I'm a txr type of guy myself but I appreciate the music in this series :-)
I’m waiting for this to be popular
my whole arcade community does vs off and will do anything but race eachother.
It's a lot more expensive over here -_-
cool video , subbed and hope the channel gets bigger
Here in America, WMMT is nonexistent. Wish I could find a cabinet and terminal out in the wild, but every arcade just has the same Cruisn Blast cabinets which don't even come close to the Maximum Tune games.
You gotta go to the East or West Coast dawg. Mid country not hip to this. Texas maybe but the community is really on the East West coasts
@@yshdaspecialEven on the east coast where I am I still haven't found anything
Lord Saito (Fisherman) 1:29 starring from the heavens above. And also rip kuya Ji
always thought banging the steering wheel and blocking others is a form of skill issue. keeping my driving style to smooth thank you very much xD
In my arcade, hitting was a big no-no, we turned boost off and would see who'd make the least mistakes, it was polite unlike what I've seen online.
1:29 Saito slander still alive and well 🤣🤣
I love WMMT.
The only other game where the c35 laurel exists is tokyo xtreme racer drift 2 :(
Bruh If they were to release a F2P model with REASONABLE systems in place I think they'd have a gem on their hands.
すんげぇ楽しそうでなにより☺️
Fun fact its cheap to play in USA if you be friend your local Round 1 janitor. that man for me is the goat. every time I come he hooks me up with like 30 plays for free if hes on the clock
This is a goated comment lmao. Im for sure gonna smoke somebody out next time I stop at the Long Island Round1 and see if I can make a friend or two.
Great system for me lol probably saved like 500$ at least with it and I don't even play that often.
i wish my games were as chaotic as the ones you show. at my local arcade everyone clean races.
Well i have fun with it and meeting new and old friends in the arcade cabinets
I saw the first video and was like
"I know where that is"
needing this game on pc... europe is killing me here
psst....
you can play it with teknoparrot, well not the recent one like in arcade center but its still worth to try
WE SPITTIN STRAIGHT FACTS OUT HERE SHOUTOUT TO THE REAL FGC UNDERDOG
bruh when the Indonesian guy said he spent 100m IDR on 5:23 ... i was shocked i was blindsided because im from indonesia. With that amount of money he can buy a car or high end pc.
No bro 100m itu 100 juta million in inggris itu sama dengan juta not same as miliar
@l_o_n_e_l_y__k_u_n6128 yeah I know. It's 100 juta rupiah. Literally bisa beli mobil atau pc yg spec nya tinggi
never thought i'd hear the pizza tower soundtrack on a wmmt video
It's Pizza time!
YOOOOOO I KNOW THAT ARCADE (megamall!!!)
I love playing this game whenever I can- i have to get around to getting a banapassport though, lost mine years ago and haven't been able to get one...
this game is super worth it coming from a semi comp player (it gets confusing also very fun btw totally worth it if deciding to play)
This game made me broke 10/10 would play again next month
I rarely play WMMT nowadays. Still a fun game whenever I have a chance to play.
WMMT becoming a Burnout game be like:
Came for the driving, stayed away because of the unclean driving habits and MONEY problems xD
It's still a good game though ^^
0:11 thats in megamall
Yes
played WMMT5DX when visiting the US because there are no arcades in my country i live in. Absolute blast and quality time but it makes me even sadder we dont have arcades. Back to the emulator i go.
6:17 One of the reasons I play cockpit view.
Also, my local arcade still has 5DX+. Damn.
Bruh when that guy u tailgated said "Tangnamo wala kong makita" i just bursted into laughter. I just love how filipino complains about something but ends up being funny 🤣🤣
5:22 holy shit you can buy an actual car with that amount of money god damn
I recently went to round 1 for the first time when my friend visited my state, man we only have 5dx+ in america but I had so much fun to the point I consistently have every crown there
Also I ignore the metas, I have achieved all crowns with the pajero and the Mercedes Benz 190e Evo 2. Game is so fun whenever I run into new clans or teams and my friend and I fighting them
could be considered vehicular combat and i think gamer alex would like it
I can only imagine how they'd play Burnout. This was my teenagehood racing game franchise on PS2.
0:20 well i have no choice, since i live in Europe and there are no arcades here which have WMMT. #BringWanganMaximumTuneToEurope.
Currently playing through WMMT5DX+ on PC, one of the best arcade driving games after MW 2005. The car choice is astonishing and the sense of speed is insane! Damn i hate it that no arcade has it or 6RR here in Europe!
This shit goes hard as f! It would sell like hotcakes!
