- Netflix has a lot of great TV shows. These are 10 lesser-known Netflix shows that you should watch. Some of these hidden gems don't get publicized as much as other TV series on Netflix. You need to watch these if you haven't done so yet. Many of the Netflix shows are underrated and underappreciated gems and are some of the best shows on Netflix.

The fact that people don't know about Peaky Blinders or Black Mirror, but they'll watch that teenage mellowdrama 13 Reasons Why bullshit saddens me deeply.
lol! I feel your pain. Peaky and BM are light years better than 13 Reasons Why. I put a few of these shows on this list for the kids.
Mr. Manager Well, all of those are completely different from each other. 13 RW is very good in a real/raw melodramatic way, Peaky Blinders is good in a thriller/historic way, and Black Mirror is good in a cinematic perfection/psycho-thriller way.
Lauryn Grayce Peaky Blinders and Black Mirror are objectively good television. With strong performances, good plots and sharp writting. 13 Reasons Why could only be enjoyed by people in high school or younger. That show sucks.
the problem with these cyberbully/social media shaming dramas is that they dont really adress the problem but instead make excuses for the problem. The problem is not new and has happened to every generation from the dawn of time only the medium has changed. The real question is why the ever-increasing disproportionate effect of social media on people even as the quality of those interactions goes down and why is each generation becoming more sensitive to negitive attention. Social issues are never simple 1 answer problems and when you treat and portray them as such the problem only hets worse
Hey! I watched 13 Reasons why and I'm 22. Its actually pretty damned good and oh I'm yanking your chain, its the worst show on Netflix. Well not worse than Iron Fist. But bad. Black Mirror is my favorite show . Fav episode was White Christmas and Fifteen Million Merits.
I'm at least thankful that Sense8 is getting the 2 hour finale special so we at least get closure. But it does upset me cause they had like 3 more seasons worth of material to go off of. I honestly would've been fine if they ended it after the first season cause even though there were loose ends in the end of that season, it wasn't as bad of a cliffhanger as the season 2 finale was.
riley sunderland I don’t understand how they can end such a fantastic show. Everyone I know who has seen it loves it. They just needed to market it like they did Stranger Things and it would be one of the biggest hit shows ever

Rectify, The Killing, Ozark and Mindhunter are also good ones. Wentworth is excellent! 13 Reasons was way better than what I expected and I'm just now into season 1 of Bloodline.

The Ozark needs more attention! It's amazing couldn't be happier with Jason Batemans performance, although the choice in actress who plays his wife doesn't fit well to me but it doesn't take away from the storyline.

I live right across from the prison where they filmed and the car wreck scene was filmed right out back of my house. They've been filming so much here, recently, out back of my house. It does look quite like a film set, though.
I too, stopped watching Pinky Blinders after the first episode of Season 1 for reason unknown. Then one day out of the blues, I mindlessly clicked on it and restarted watching it. I've been hooked ever since. Superb acting, great directing, strong character development. Plenty of dramas, politics, violence, to give you a better perspective on the life inside a crime family that owned a city. Cillian Murphy is absolutely brilliant.
Also, sometimes when you can't get into a series doesn't mean it's bad. You just might not have been in the mood, or that your mind was looking for something else at the time and quite subconsciously decisive about it. So don't just throw it all out yet. Give it some time and then revisit it at a later time when you're relaxed and then you just may pick up on it.
Look up the Travellers. It's a great show, i binged watched it back in January!!

The OA isn't even mentioned. I watched so many great tv shows and it still doesn't leave my mind. A good mind bending show.

Hemlock Grove should have been on here; the cinematography is amazing, the special effects are awesome, and the music is beautiful. The acting isn't bad (could have been better), while the writing was hit or miss. And it was one of Netflix's first original programs they created

Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories
There is only 1 seasons, but series calls out for a 2nd or more seasons, it is in Japanese only so you'll need to read sub-titles but it is well worth it.

Definatly give 'MindHunter' a shot. Kinda off the first episode, but it gets under your skin by the end when it all explodes
Peaky Blinders, Wentworth, Bloodline and Black Mirror are awesome! Some dope shows people should check are, The Last Kingdom, Marco Polo, Frontier, Happy Valley and Marseille.
Black Mirror is probably the most well written show, but The Fall, Sense8 and Penny Dreadful really close by.
Edit: 3 Years later I have to add Mind Hunters and Queen's Gambit.

Good list! My favorites from it are Black Mirror and The Crown. Some other lesser know Netflix original series I've enjoyed were: Crazy Head, F is for Family, Glow, Love, Happy Valley, Marcella, and The Get Down.

I'm not, the writing was really bad, I watch all 2 seasons and the show could have been something special if they didn't keep pushing their SJW politics into the writing. They make the trans and gay people such victims, it's stupid. They should lay off the SJW politics and needless sex orgy scenes and concentrate on plot and character development. And WTF was that whole montage of people giving birth all about, that was needlessly graphic and had nothing to do with the plot. By the end of season 2 I was glad that this failed writing was put out of it's misery.
2 hour finale scheduled to be released this year. Keep an eye out.

Kara Ruckle I don't even watch OITNB either, because it just doesn't compare! I liked the first 2 seasons of OITNB, but found Wentworth and never looked back.
Wentworth is far superior. I did enjoy OITNB for 1 season and then binged on Wentworth.

Seems like most of these shows would already be known to most active Netflix watchers (especially ones that browse channels like these). They're not huge, but still probably "second tier" in terms of awareness. I do like me some Medici, though.
I would have included Good Morning Call, Call Me Francis, Samurai Gourmet, White Rabbit Project, Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories, and 5 Came Back (maybe Roman Empire: Reign of Blood as well).
I really enjoy watching The Crown. From the mention list I have two other shows l will have to check out. Thanks for info.

CHEWING GUM is hilarious & definitely deserves more attention (in the U.S.). Their is also this Brazilian show "3%" that is really good (only one season tho). Took me 3 episodes before I found out that you could change the actual language, not just subtitles. 😂😆

I definitely watched 3% all the way through with subtitles.... I didn't know you could change the language. Are the English voice actors good or do they sound more like Siri? (If the voice acting is bad I think I prefer the subtitles)

I'll pick Sense8 as the best show.... first some episodes really make you weary but if you proceed to watch it you can feel the goddamn vibe of love and lust and unknown connection emerging from your gut. At the end of the second season I prayed the next season should come fast.... kaboom the fuckers cancelled it.

Great list! Some I have watched and give thumbs up.... surprisingly I have the majority of the shows on my to watch list. Wentworth is the only one I need to add. I do like Travelers and Sense 8 is my favorite and completely disappointed it has not been renewed. I feel like they knew a third season was not happening long before the second season completed filming.
....and it is terrible how Sense8 ended the second season.
I liked Peaks Blinders, Sence 8..so sad that got cancelled, I also enjoyed The Kingdom..which was not on your list. And Versailles. .totally got into it. I kept thinking that the actor playing the King was familiar and realized he was from the Show Vikings...and had been one of my favorite characters. ..so now Im excitedto see where Versailles goes next..

The Crown is super well done. I loved the Fall and I agree that season 3 wasn't nearly as good as the first two. I guess I'll give peaky blinders another try because I never made it past episode one either. But you make it sound good.
The Medici Master of Florence is an amazing genius show. I highly recommended watching it if you like tv shows like GameOfThrones
SENSE8! One of my favorite shows. So complex, creative and smart. Also visually stunning, and no, it doesn't have pacing issues. People are just really impatient. This is a show about people, so it's mostly about the people and their connection.

Bloodline was a awesome series, born in south Florida I can relate, and have seen most of the filing locations from the show.
It's great that the show used the real location to film the show.
How about "the Travelers"? My brother recommended it & I thought it was great. It's sci-fi, with time travel and some great characters(including Will from the sitcom "Will and Grace") as they try to change life in the future by inhabiting bodies that are about to become vacant through natural causes in the present. they are on "missions". I like my sci-fi; so I like Dark Matter and find myself rewatching "Star Trek"'s " Voyager", "Deep Space Nine" and "Next Generation". Too bad they took "Farscape" off the air. A cool romp through way outer space with some strange Jim Henson studio characters and some humanoid types as well on the run in a live ship. I agree " Bloodline" is great and it takes place in the Florida key " Isla Morada". Enjoy!

thanks for giving my opinion some validity. I hope you enjoy it as we did, it seems to have a second season on the way, but they don't give it enough hype to create the interest it deserves.

Im glad you said Wentworth made me really happy. You got a like because of it. Well i have to say season 5 doesnt actually go around Bea Smith anymore. Any season after the 4th changes look. One amazing show. I rewatch it all the time.

Dirk gently's holistic detective agency. Recently dropped. Has both season 1&2 on Netflix and is the best show ever made. A must watch

This one isn't a Netflix original, but it is on Netflix now. It was originally a Syfy original. It is Magicians. It has a terrific cast, imaginative writing, and a whimsical thread of dark comedy. If you are a fantasy/sci-fi buff, this might be one you will enjoy.

I am grieving The characters from The Crown at the moment. I spent many winters evenings with them and enjoyed their company so much that they often stayed until the early hours of the morning☺ LOVED The Crown SO worth a watch, great history lessons learnt also. I am Irish and NOW I like the queen.☺well shes okay, would nt want to live with her or anything. lol
Fronteir should have been on this list. Its a great show that I just stumbled upon. Plus Mamoa is in it.
I haven't seen Frontier yet. Momoa is a good actor. I hear he is playing Aquaman in the upcoming movie.

Bloodline is a masterpiece imo. Smart adult dialogue with real life dark themes, impeccable acting and amazing direction. The Australian actor thar plays Danny is amazing.

They made the mistake of making the show too slow in the beginning and lost a lot of viewers.
Thats soooo true. I was very frustrated by the slow development of the story but the idea of what a sense8 was kept me intrigued just enough to keep watching

LOVESICK is a really great show from Britain that hss really been overlooked. It feels to me like a thinking person's rom-com where chatacters seem relatable, vunerable, and hilarious. Another great show that seriouly deserves more attention is OCCUPY which comes out of Norway. The premise at first seemed like stretch, but within the first 30 min of the first episode the show takes off and never holds back. The show IMHO becomes more politically relavant with every passing day. And finally RIVER, a British mystery drama, is definitely a Netfix hidden gem. The main character is a detective who may be clinically insane or not. The show leaves you seriouly wondering. The actor who plays the lead is simply amazing to watch.
Narcos is very good...I also love The Crown as well, especially because the music and cinematography are really captivating ...but if there's any show I'm excited to see more of its Black Mirror

Everyone seems to forget 'Hemlock Grove' it's a great Netflix show that will make you get chills. Bill Skarsgård who plays "IT" is a main character in Hemlock and he is really great to watch. Im really glad he made his big break. Cant wait to see him in the new Stephen king series "Castle Rock"!!!!

The greatest Netflix show that I've seen so far is called Dark. It's filmed in Germany, and it caught me hard. It's just one season, but it's incredible. Very psychological, when you figure out what's been happening your brain will explode! I think I'm the only who's seen, but Amazing! Everyone is missing out.

Fortitude seasons 1 and 2. A cross between Northern Exposure and X-Files. Beautiful Icelandic scenery. I think it's Iceland. It's ice and snow and mountains and it's lovely and it's also creepy. A fun binge watch with seasons one and two being totally different.
I've been meaning to check out Fortitude. Here in the United States it is on Amazon Prime Video. Sounds like a good show.

Myself and my boyfriend love/d the Miss Fisher Murder Mysteries. Female private detective in 1920's Australia. Excellent writing and acting. It's very disappointing that it wasn't given a fourth season.
The Fall was awesome,surprised The Killing isn't on here ,although it ended after 4 seasons.And can't wait for seasons 3 and 4 of Narcos.
Sorry, I couldn't make it through the 3rd season of The Killing. It was just so slow. Yes.... can't wait to see what happens on Narcos next :)

Just purchased a new 75" UHD TV with Netflix & other apps installed in the browser on Black Friday, I can't wait till it's delivered & set up to sign up for Netflix! Never used Netflix before, but I've heard somethings about it... It's going to be amusing to see if it lives up to what folks say about it?! 😁 Most of my TV viewing is Sports, Movies and some older quirky tv series like House MD, Six feet under, Dead like me and Two and a half men... I'm hoping that Netflix has at least some of these things among their viewing selection... 😏
David Carter... You're missing so many great series and movies sticking just to the eras you mentioned, although they were and still are great! Venture out. I go thru YT and write down people's suggestions or search for BBC detective series, my all time fav...BBC truly does have some of the best! Much less violence, rarely a cuss word, yet mystery, drama, intrigue, edge in ur seat in some. I've watched all wkend sometimes just one series... Like: The Fall, Endeavor is fantastic, but really have to go way back and watch the old Inspector Lewis, then the very long Lewis series, then Endeavor. That should take you a good couple months. You're correct about the BBC, there's a lot of good solid entertainment to be found there! You have the merriest of Christmas's also Lana! Thank you so much for your insightful help! I'm beginning to broaden my thoughts and horizons, there's so much good viewing out there! Course language, graphic violence and gratuitous sex is frequently used as a weak substitute for poor scripting and bad production, beside that many unsupervised teen viewers thrive on it, I imagine they don't realize that it's frequently used as a quick fix to for poor film making? Younger viewers crave the shock value of films that attempt to upstage each other by using more of these tactics...

I quickly became a "Black Mirror"s fan, but waiting a-year on NETFLIX show's new episodes may be the killer of ALL it's good programs😏 The thriller "Safe" and off-beat comedy "Schitts Creek" are also good.

I've seen advertising for at least half the shows on this list from Netflix whenever a new season comes out also another good series to watch (though not a Netflix original) is A Young Doctors Notebook: And Other Stories Daniel Radcliff and John Hamm play the main character at different points in his life

I May recommend 100 is an amazing series . The fall 3 rd season is quite slow . Sense 8 was good .

Crashing - is a British sitcom of a group of young professionals living in a run down London hospital. Currently my favorite show to watch on Netflix. It is funny. Unfortunately there are currently only 6 episodes.
I've never heard of Crashing. Will have to check it out.

Taboo has potential waiting for season 2 especially for lovers of Tom Hardy, his hat does most of the heavy lifting but has potential. Harlots is a great drama it good starts off with music overload but is gripping watch, Black Sails is awesome. It starts off terribly in the first few episodes but toward middle / end of season one gets really good. Plus there are 4 seasons for mega binge and filmed in sunny blue island. OZ for those who like prison dramas. The killing, Ozarks
bloodline is amazing! Ben Mendelsohn carried the show👌
Ben is an under-rated actor. He was really good in the latest Star Wars movie too.
