This video is insanely good. It reminds me of the old Friday Features that made me a fan of this channel in the first place. When Rob discusses something he's passionate about, it's impossible not to go on that emotional journey with him. His writing here is top notch, and his *delivery* is absolutely perfect. I never got all that far into Bloodborne myself, and I doubt I'll ever finish it, because I just didn't find it that enjoyable, but it's absolutely wonderful that Rob was able to finally figure out the game and break through that mental barricade. This is gonna be one of those videos that I share with people when I try to get them interested in PS Access. It's excellent.

And you have in your expert way summarised why I absolutely love this genre. That feeling of overcoming your doubt, of overcoming your self and not giving up, pushing through to that victory. That's why soulsborne games just click with me. Yes it's punishing but each time you are learning, growing, getting better and better until you finally smash your way through that barrier and achieve your goal. Bloodborne is my favorite video game ever, I even own all of the Bloodborne board game that just released (You should totally play that on a stream sometime with the gang when you know, social distancing is over. Love the addition of the character throwing rocks at a wall, in deep thought. If there had been a lake, he would've been skimming stones.
Also, this video is exactly me, only i haven yet gone back to the game...yet!

Edit: Went from laughter at the beginning, to feeling a geniune pang of pride at the end. Well done Rob! And well done to the others for helping! I'm sincerely glad you managed to leave your home in Old Yharnam and experience the rest of this superb game

This just came across my feed and thank you Rob. I’ve never played a soulsborne game, even though I got Demon Souls Remastered day one, have had Bloodborne through PlayStation Plus forever and truly enjoyed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order which I hear plays so similarly. I just get anxious when I hear how difficult they are and know that, to get my platinum for God of War, I turned down the difficulty for the Valkyrie Queen fight. If I don’t start Demons Souls, then I hope to pick up Elden Ring, but regardless seeing how you’ve been able to kick your stress over the game in the rear, gives me hope I can as well.

OMG! I was in the same shoes as you! I was living in the bottom of old yharnam because of the four or five werewolves for 5 years. Somehow I got the courage to get back and now I have the platinum. Finally bought the dlc and making my rounds on that. (Dlc totally worth it for the new weapons)

Rob I had the same problem as you but it was worse. I couldn’t even beat the cleric beast so I just put the game down. But thanks to you and your streams I picked it back up and now I’m one trophy away from the platinum. Just need to finish the chalices.

Really amazing to see Rob start bloodborne all over, get back to the part he was stuck at, and then conquer it all alone. I really hope we can see Rob eventually finish the whole game solo. Beating the game in Co-op is a fantastic way to play the game, but it's a different kind of fun from beating the game solo.
Even if Rob never goes on to finish the game solo or get the platinum, I just hope that he, and anyone else who felt like he did, can play and enjoy the game in their own way. Bloodborne is just too great to pass by

Thank you for this, Rob. I love hearing you talk about video games and I could listen to you for hours. This video essay, especially resonated with me because the way you described your journey through this game felt so similar to my own real life struggle with depression since April 2020 til now.
The part where you admitted that you were an enemy to yourself and the cause of your own decent into darkness and despair, refusing help etc. That is exactly how I have been too. The final take-away from this is that no matter how big your challenge or how hopeless it feels, you can always overcome it and be ok eventually. Your Robservations" are timeless and applicable to real life as well as being generally awesome. Thank you so much! God bless you.

I admittedly still need to try to overcome my own fear, anxiety and doubt about Bloodborne, and I don't just mean the game. DAMM, Rob, your writing here may be the best thing you've ever done! There's no way you weren't an English major. Your descriptions of emotional states at the beginning and end of the video were ASTONISHINGLY beautiful, and on top of that, accurate! You've NAILED the exact feeling I've felt so many times, and yet couldn't put into words as beautifully as you've done (and I AM an English major!) The ending had me smiling. This writing is just BRILLIANT. More than that; it's practically outright phenomenal!!!!
