How I Got Into UPenn Wharton! | My Stats, Extracurriculars & Advice

- The test scores, activities, and internships that got me into UPenn, USC, Georgetown, Stern & more! This is just my experience- honestly, each admissions officer has different reasons for accepting or rejecting every student. But I did remember these videos being helpful when I was applying to get a ballpark estimate on what schools I could be applying to.

Yep! Don't worry- everyone in your year is in the same boat as you. Use this time to your advantage and work on some personal projects (write, do some art, make music, whatever it is you like)!
There are alot of internships open now 4 next year also remote internships are available

@@Jxfh. all of facebooks internships were fully remote for example others will explicitly say it is remote you can simply search them now however you'll find more co op opportunities and half are around remote the other is in person

Congrats, I also got into Wharton ED for '25, still in disbelief tbh. Thank god I got into my dream school so early, I had no plan to apply to other schools with their own unique essays, and I probably would have a mental breakdown, but I kind of wanted to try other schools like Harvard just to KNOW if I had a chance lol. Maybe I'll see you on campus.

That's kinda funny we got the exact same standardized test scores and sub-scores. 1550 on the SAT, 35 ACT, and literally the exact same sub-scores. I am so jealous that you did internships and the Bank of America summer program because I feel like those are the best experiences you can get in highschool and would've really helped show my dedication to business. It worked out fine for me anyways tho. Also I feel the pain of the common app essay. :) Congrats on Wharton again!!

Good question (I can't believe I forgot to mention these)- I got an 800 on the Math 2 subject test. Then I also took Physics and Spanish purely for the purpose of applying to Georgetown (because they require 3). I ended up only getting a 690 and 710 on them respectively.

Glad it helped! Keep in mind that your SAT score is such a small part of the application, there definitely is no specific score or benchmark to aim for. But just as a very rough ballpark, the average SAT score of students accepted into Penn is 1500. I'd assume it might be slightly higher for Wharton but I can't be sure about that either.

@@smritijasti176 Again- there isn't a magic number for rank/percentage (my school didn't even rank students), but as long as you're doing your best to keep your grades up and take challenging courses you're on the right track! Definitely don't stress too much as a rising sophomore- enjoy your time, join a ton of activities, figure out what you like, and hone in on your passions :) Wharton looks for well-rounded, unique individuals so just figure out what makes you you (as cheesy as it sounds)!

i'm in 8th grade going into 9th, but before i register for my classes next year, i have to take a language placement test for Chinese. I'm not very good or fluent at it, so i was wondering if u had any tips on how to become more fluent on reading and writing especially? Definitely depends on the person. At my school everyone did HL English, and I chose to do HL Math because I've always followed the more "advanced" math paths. I also chose to do HL Art because it's something I really enjoy and then HL Spanish was definitely a challenge but I was super interested in it. And then I'm not a science-oriented person so I did SL Physics. Just choose the classes you personally think you can handle and would enjoy! Also, you can definitely go the 3 HL 3 SL route instead of 4 / 2

Hi, I’m Tod and I’m still in 9th grade, I would like to ask, do I need to be A student for every class to create a good profile to go into Penn University?
Im a junior with a 3.1 GPA and a 20 ACT, I do about 4 extracurriculars and have job experience. I'm retaking my ACT, and currently taking AP/Dual enrollment classes, and still hold about 4 extracurriculars.....is there hope for me?

Hi I am currently a sophomore I had 1 b+ my freshman year but all A+ my sophomore year and my gpa is a 5.21 weighted/6.0 would my freshman year hinder my chances at upenn? Or do colleges like to see improvement?

IB scores don't come out until after college decisions come out so nope!
Does GPA only consider senior year grades or it considers all high school grades?

Why would you waste time taking the act when u already got a 1560 on the sat?
Having high scores on both can definitely only help your application. It's unneeded, but if you can get very high scores on both (like she obviously did) you'll look very good to colleges because you'll boost both their SAT and ACT average admitted scores. As someone who got a 1490 on the SAT but couldn't hack the ACT, if I had done equally well on the ACT I would've submitted it too. Definitely shoot to do high on at least one test, but doing well on both is no 'waste of time'. Hope that helps!

I am planning to apply to mechanical engineering at Upenn through ED considering I am an international student and already in grade 12 with no international,national level honours . Do I even have a chance?
Do you think a teacher can write a bad recommendation letter like saying how bad of a student you are?
Almost every teacher only has your best interests in mind, so even if you're not their favorite student they still won't say anything negative (most likely)- it just probably won't be an extremely glowing rec. That being said, try to choose a teacher that you have a good relationship with!

Hey! I was wondering if your KW internship was paid? I am not sure if I should accept an unpaid internship or not.
It was not- I was only 15 at the time and I was really just grateful for the opportunity. I'd say an unpaid internship is definitely better than nothing! You can learn a lot and the experience is very valuable. That being said- if you are in a position where paid/unpaid really makes a difference in your financial situation, don't be afraid to just look for a part time job! Don't be too worried about missing the experience to do research or a formal internship because experience in a professional work environment is extremely important as well!

I competed in a pageant as well lol, do you think that would a good common app essay topic?
I obviously don't know for sure, but I think that it definitely made my essay stand out because it's a pretty different topic- in one of my interviews with admissons for a scholarship, the first thing my interviewer asked about was my pageant experience because it stuck out so much. I'd say it can be a little risky because of the stereotypes that are associated with pageants, but if you frame it well (what did you learn from it? etc), it could be a good topic!

Hey, I am currently a sophomore and my dream school is UPenn Wharton. I did poorly in freshmen year especially semester 1, I left the semester with 2 70s, 2 80s and 2 90s. I caught up in semester 2 but I think I lost some chances already to get into Wharton. What are some things I can do to improve my chances? Please help me!
If you can improve your grades in your upcoming years of school and continue to challenge yourself by taking difficult classes, etc, I definitely wouldn't count yourself out just yet. Your grades (especially freshman year) are by no means the only thing that mattter. There's also a section on on the application to explain certain things, so if that year was particularly rough for some reason, or you just refocused your attention and really improved in later years, that'd be something to talk about - good luck!
You can write essays when the time comes about how your mindset changed your grades. If that makes sense?
Hi, I don’t know whom to ask but can I get into UPenn to study for a Master’s degree if I have a 1.7 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) from my Bachelor’s degree? I come from overseas, so I don’t understand any of these things and I couldn’t find any info online :(
Unfortunately Not. I recommend you to look for the UPenn requirements.

"My friends all interned for NASA." Wow. Where on Earth do you live? Nobody at my entire school of 2400 people does anything even remotely like this. This is a completely different lifestyle from what most kids have available. Just given the number of AP classes you took and exams your parents were able to pay for suggest the level of privilege in your life.

@@thebusybeanhomecafe4035 Lol well yeah. You can watch all of these stats videos of kids who have done these incredible things and act as though this is all normal. It is not, and it isn't even usually due to their own merit. It is usually due to the school they attend or where their parents work. For example, in Girl Scouts, there are overall scholarship winners for our top service award that determine who had the best project. It is always a girl from Silicon Valley, DC, or Florida whose parents worked for NASA that allowed them access to their labs and coworkers to develop new technology. And there's never any acknowledgement of the fact that nobody else gets those opportunities from people like that.
@@katewexell True, but if you have the money, take advantage of it. That's not a bad thing. You can feel bad for yourself and hate the system without being salty to another person. Besides, AP tests are usually 105$, but you can apply to have it reduced to 25$. It's really easy and if you're poor enough that you can't afford several AP tests, you do qualify. There are options out there. Look for them. She isn't in girl scouts, she's taking advantage of what she has to have a good career. It's not bad!

I keep getting a 33 in my practice ACTs and can't seem to get it to a 34/5/6. any advice?
Figure out which sections are the most difficult and practice those individually! You can even break it down further- if it's reading that's tripping you up, are there certain types of passages you find harder or is it vocabulary? For math, are there specific concepts you need to review? Also think about timing- try an untimed practice test and if you score better on that, at least you know you got the material down. From there, just slowly start restricting your time until you get to the actual time reqs. Hope that helps!
