The little squeaks of panic when the stencil started coming away by itself were brilliant 🤣 I love how real you are and how you show that even you're not perfect all the time!
I've been running a cake biz for about 5 years now. I'm so glad I found your channel! Some of your ideas I already do but I am learning SO MUCH GREAT STUFF FROM YOU! Thank you so much for your willingness to share so much!! You're awesome!
You are a wonderful teacher! Love your videos😍. I am feeling inspired after a break from decorating and focusing on other things going on in my life. Thank you so much. 💓
Girl that cake is EVERYTHANG! Absolutely beautiful! You've inspired me to use some stencils my sister gave me for Christmas. As always, thanks for sharing!
Ok you’ve convinced me. I will try stenciling. It’s always scared me. I tried it many years ago and gave up but you as always have taught this technique very well and inspiring. I love you. You’ve taught me so much. Don’t know what I’d do without you. You have helped me so much in my profession and i sincerely thank you.
Awww I love you too Myra! You're welcome! You got this. Make sure the cake is straight. If you hold the stencil against it and it doesn't lay flat, then I would advise against doing the stencil directly onto the cake.
I would just like to say ...You are life!!!! The fact that you show the mistakes or challenges you encounter makes it all the more real for me. Thank you
Thanks for sharing! I love that you show when things may not always go as planned and what we can do when those moments arise. Bc, every caking experience is full of surprises!! I literally did my first stenciled cake the other day and had a few mishaps! But I’m learning!
This is the best video I have found for stenciling. You have probably the most difficult colors, in my opinion. Stenciling black on light color will show every flaw and this came out about as perfect as anyone could expect. I’m going to do white on white for my first attempt! Thanks for all the tips!
I’m a self taught cake decorator. I mostly do cakes for family no charge. I have in the past sold cakes in my younger years. You are amazing. I used your buttercream recipe for a grandsons birthday cake recently. It was the best cake ever. I wished I were younger(I’m 68). I would love to start doing cakes again for a business but doing cakes bothers my back to the point I go to bed with back pain. Uhggg! And people are said that I don’t do cakes anymore. You inspire me. ❤️
Just wanted to let you know your channel has really helped me A LOT! I’m new at cakes-and I’m glad I can come here for reference. The cake is beautiful!

I love all ur videos and I “like” them all. I bake for family and friends and u have taught me so much. My question is my family want me to make more pound cakes which I am doing…. But can I use ur special recipes and bake it as a pound cake?

The end result of the whole cake!😍 I had my first big cake this past weekend and used a stencil for the first time, the cake Gods were on my side it matched perfectly around but the rose gold color didn’t come all the way through on some parts which clearly ended up being the back of the cake
Isn't it the best when they are on your side?!😂 And that's why we have backs of cakes! LOL Like I said, my cakes aren't perfect. I just know how to cover up the mistakes!👍
I love your videos and I have learn new things and thank you for that. I know we all live in different places and prices obviously varies. How much would you charge for a fondant 8 inch tall cake with stencil on it?
I usually ice my cakes and refrigerate overnight before I start decorating them. It has to be long enough that the butter in the icing can solidify and you won't mess up the icing when you're working with it. So I would say at least 5 hours? And don't be scurrd! 😂
This is Pam! I have to make a cake in Rose Gold for a Louis Vuitton round cake. I bought a stencil and wonder if I should use rose gold luster dust to fill in the stencil with a brush or do I need to spray it over the stencil? I plan on using Italian Meringue Buttercream and then place stencil on top of buttercream after cake is well chilled but not sure if luster dust using a brush or liquid gold would do the job? Can you give me some advice? I love your videos! Thank you.
Hey Pam! I haven't done a gold stencil yet because it requires that extra step of painting it and I am scared I will mess it up! So I'm not too sure what to recommend for that.
I absolutely LOVE your personality 💞 I totally can relate to your style, challenges and just about everything I’ve seen you do so far!! I have a question though, before this video I watched your American buttercream video, you didn’t sift your powdered sugar, whenever I don’t sift, I end up with sugar “clumps” you don’t? Or am I using an inferior brand 😅
Thank you Denece! Yeah, the cheaper brands tend to clump. I sift when I make fondant. With the buttercream, I whip it so the clumps aren't really an issue. However, it creates air bubbles, so I have a smoothing technique that helps get rid of them. I show it in this video! th-cam.com/video/tTEb690qtJc/w-d-xo.html
I never worked with meringue buttercreams. However my friend does, so I asked her. She said that it's difficult, but it can be done. It doesn't crust and softens quickly, so she recommends you pop it in the freezer for 20 minutes or so and stencil it when the icing is frozen.
Ok so I did this yesterday with dollar tree stencil it worked perfect on one side but I couldn’t figure out what I did wrong the second time. I think I figured it out now lol Thankyou QUESTION does the type of stencil matter are there stencil just for cakes ?
@@KarolynsKakes no o think I left to much buttercream before I pealed it off 😩 I’m going to try your method with the water and see what happens. Thankyou again for posting definitely followed !
Today I put a stencil on a cake it was pink quite dark and put white stencilling on it the next day it faded absorbed into the cake i applied how you explained and looked great and even when I finnished...why did this do this please Thankyou for you advice have just recently been watching your videos which I love
Yes I always ice the cake, refrigerate it overnight so the icing gets hard and cold, then do this process. So it's in the fridge for at least 15 hours.
@@KarolynsKakes it takes the butter cream off and barely shows on The cake. I’m so sorry I wasn’t clear . Omg! I’m so sorry. I got ahead of myself a little bit
I can't find them online. I get them at Michael's craft store. The brand is Royal and Langnickel and it's the soft grip brush. They are in the painting section!
I didn't freeze it before stenciling. I took it out of the refrigerator (I refrigerate all of my cakes.) The icing was solid when I took it out of the fridge so it wasn't going to get messed up. I put the cake in the freezer for 5 minutes so the black stencil icing could get hard pretty fast and I could continue the stencil on the other side of the cake without messing up the stencil I just did. I hope that makes sense!
Thank for teaching this is learn few tricks now a constructive comment just though about this as I was watching you doing such a great job! Maybe put the pins at a 45° angle and maybe used 2 instead of one FYI i am not the main baker.God bless you! ill keep
I don't freeze the cake. I put it in the refrigerator. I ice my cakes one day and then decorate the next. So it's in the fridge for at least 24 hours before I apply the stencil. You want the icing to be hard so you don't mess it up. I would recommend having the cake in the refrigerator for at least 6 or more hours before you add the stencil so your icing can be really hard!
On some darker colors, I can sometimes notice a mark. So I lightly press the warm metal against it to start then press harder as I go around to avoid that. I hope that makes sense, I'll probably have to make a video on that to show what I mean.
Yeah you gotta make sure the sides are perfectly straight for it to turn out right! It's happened to me before, so I scraped it all off and covered it in fondant and did something else 🤣
It's nice to see that not everything goes right all the time even with you. But thank you for showing us how to fix the boo boos. Can you stencil on fondant? Thank you for sharing and keep on caking 💜

What kind of icing are you using? Sometimes if I don't have it thick enough, that will happen.
May i if the cake is chilled? How long did you keep in the fridge?
Yes I always ice the cake, refrigerate it overnight so the icing gets hard and cold, then do this process. So it's in the fridge for at least 15 hours.
This cake is beautiful! When I add the buttercream on the stencil, it seems to take it off or it smudges! Any idea of what’s happening ?

I think that stencil is by designer stencils I got mine from Amazon a while ago. In a red and black package on Amazon it’s called Damask.
Yup that's exactly what it is! It's linked in the description. 😊
Do u grease the stencil before stick it to buttercream ?
I don't find it necessary because it doesn't stick to it.
Couldn’t you use a scraper to smooth the icing, as well, or is it easier to just use the small angled spatula?
You definitely can! I just prefer to use a spatula, I feel like it is more precise.
@@KarolynsKakes ok, thanks!!

This is a 2 layer torted 7" cake.
How much did this cake sell for?
