Thank you! The threader car on the end is actually a 3D printed car from CMR Products. Its a little rough but makes a good stand in until I have time to build my own version.
Nice to see that you got ahold of Chris for the welded rail racks as I helped him with getting then back on the market and the photo's of the car's he has are the ones I sent him for his website
Thank you! If my memory serves I believe the post you made on the Conrail Modelers Facebook group is what gave me the push to do this build! I had alot of extra Bowser flatcars after Rapido came out with them.
@ConrailSteve very cool I'm glad to see that someone other than me is doing the same rail train as I am. As I have 8 more car's to build before I get some paint on them and have to get the decals so I can get them done
For my cars I went with numbers in the 57600 to 57799 range as that seems to be what most of these cars were. I know 57600 to 57699 are prototypical for sure but the 57700 to 57799 might not be. I went with close enough as far as the numbers go.
Ste, intsead of BB's for weight, consider using birdshot. It is much smaller in diameter; you can fit more in a confined space and the 25-pound bag I bought from a gun shop has lasted me a decade so far. Whie gluje holds ikt securely and dries in a day.
I really do need to track down some birdshot to use for weight. I have a few open hoppers I purchased used that the previous owner used that on and I really like how much better it fills the space.
Nice, that was awesome seeing this build on your layout, back in 78 my cousin, Grandfather and I watched Conrail unload welded rail here in Anderson Indiana on the Big 4 line that runs to and from Elkhart Yards to Anderson and beyond, that was cool for sure especially when they relaid the rails on the trestle over White River!!! How is your Bridge area rebuild coming along???
Thank you! I wish I would have gotten to see a welded rail train in action during Conrail. The bridge scene has been put on hold for the time being while I redo the curve radius on the layout. Hope to be back on the bridge area in January. I hopefully will have a layout update video out this week to show what I have been up to, progress has been rather slow on things.
Howdy fellow Steve! The welded rail train looks just awesome! Do you think you would be able to add rails to it? Or wouldn't the rails be flexible enough to make it around corners? I've only seen 2 welded rail trains, one empty and one loaded. Didn't catch either on video, but I did catch a CSX M.O.W. train coming out of Huntington WV. No welded rail cars but had the complete compliment of M.O.W. equipment and tie gondolas. Was led by 2 shiny SD23T4s! Well done and thanks for sharing 🤠
Thank you! I believe Protoloads had a flexible styrene style rail to use for these but I haven’t looked recently. I do think that standard metal rail would be too stiff but would like to get some form of plastic rail for these eventually.
steve... as i told you earlier this year, your videos are educationally exceptional, meaning the best ( just like Banya on seinfeld..." the best, jerry, the best!!!) btw, steve, i have been laid up with knee surgery and have been wondering how you re-engineered your track radius dilemma ?
Thank you!! Im making some slow progress on the curve rebuild but am almost halfway through it now. 30 degree radius is the best I could fit without completely redoing the entire layout so that’s what I have been working on. Ill have a new layout update video out tonight showing what I have been up to. Hope your knee heals up fast!!
@@ConrailSteve thanks, steve !!! nws is calling for 2-4 feet of snow here by lake erie for the weekend due to the "lake effect" !!! 8" in the last 4 hours here, no shit !!! thats what i get for living in western ny state by lake erie !!! great night to run trains and have a few cold ones !!! blessings to you steve and thanks for the radius update !!! denny
Impressive. Even more impressive is the threader cars on the tail end. Wow!

Heavy Metal and Trains ! Heck of an opening Steve. Welded rail train rocks too.
Thank you! Hopefully will have more of my own music to add in the future, the intro is the first music I have written in years.
@ConrailSteve Fren, like your music. Please write more as time allows.
Another great build and awesome video. I greatly appreciate your work and always find your process interesting. Thank you!
Thank you for watching! I always enjoy sharing my builds with everyone!

@ConrailSteve for got to ask what number's did you use as I'm 7 number's short for 7 of my car's that I still have to do

@ConrailSteve ok cool thanks
They look great.

@ConrailSteve Sweet, you'll be able to run the Auto Racks and 89ft
Boxcars more reliably!!!

thanks- great job, greasem or trucks a job i do on my cars to
Thank you for watching! The Greasem is really a great trick to make cars roll smoothly. It can be a bit messy but is well worth the effort.
Gun shops carry birdshot in 25-pound bags very reasonable and it lasts a very long time.
