- @ 36:45 of the video , you can see the marlin splashing.. Hooked up with a Marlin in 150 feet of water right outside the harbor on the way in. Over one hour fight just to lose it to a passing boat.
Wow looks like an old Penn 9/0 reel. I have not seen one of those in decades. Made for rock cod not marlin. They have a real weak drag system. I agree it looks like it died. You were going nowhere trying to reel. Only way to get those up is to plane it up several times with the boat. Pretty tough with one guy. Maybe a 30% chance of getting it up. Still looked like a lot of fun.

When they die and go straight down go in gear in idle for a few seconds then as it comes to you go neutral gain line then repeat. It works most of the time. But it is a long process. Took us 3hours on a 3 hours hundred lb marlin using that method
