The Weaving Workshop was part of Kergunyah/Gundowring Landcare group's "Kergunyah Wetlands Project". One of the project aims was to encourage people to take better care of our wetlands (sometimes referred to in quite a derogatory way as "swamps") and to highlight how incredibly important wetland plants and wetlands are to Traditional Owners. - and yes it is incredibly therapeutic as well. : )
Fantastic. Another beautiful example of rich, Australian culture we will lose if we don't start taking our heritage seriously. Such amazing history and knowledge of this land, I am so thrilled to come across videos and stories like this, of culture being preserved and treasured like it should be. I'd love to learn all of it! And all those finished baskets- gorgeous!
Feel so good to see people taking so much interest in the the small things we would otherwise just pass off as not useful. This is such a great way to be in touch with nature and feel it's warmth, and also the joy we get in making something so creative. Thank you for this video.
Its wonderful what you are doing with your native plants. Like us it is the basic thought of bringing people together or weaving people and showing an ancient art as we cal It today. How awesome.
I'm wondering the same; it's the only thing missing from this beautifully produced short film. I suspect the plant used is Lomandra but confirmation from someone knowledgeable would be appreciated!
