Tailing Sailfish - Epic fishing trip catching 18 Sailfish in Islamorada aboard the Catch 22!

- The Stanczyk crew heads south towards Key West after they get word of an epic sailfish bite the day before! It's April and some very good, though rare, conditions have set into place... what they refer to as a tailing sailfish condition. Hard east winds with a hard current going into it from the gulf stream has produced some churned up water on the reef that meets the gulf stream producing a well defined color change and edge in the water. The sailfish light up eating surface baits in this condition, cruising on top of the big swells, and can be sight fished by casting baits to them. These are the types of days where big numbers well into the double digits can be put up. Join the crew on what will be a day long remembered of epic sailfish fishing!

Haha thanks yeah it was an action packed day I'm glad the video came out well we had so much footage it took a while to piece together. Don't know if we will top that one for a while but we will try!

Awesome video, great footage of the Sailfish from the tower.
Caught a 127lb Pacific Sailfish a few yrs back down in Cabo and had a blast fighting him on light tackle too. Unbelievable aerial displays by those guys and I was lucky enough to catch a monster by Mexico standards. Got a replica of him on the wall in my basement😎👍👍
Awesome that's a monster, those Pacific's get big though ours rarely are over 60/70 lbs. They are both incredible fish however!
Bud n' Mary's Marina Yea the Pacifics do get considerably bigger but still you guys absolutely slayed them there in the Keys. I have only caught 2 Atlantic sails and they both were around 35-40 lbs but were fun to catch as well. Caught one in Duck Key and the other off BiscayneBay but still remember the big girl in Mexico that took me over 30 mins to land😎. Stay safe and tight lines boys👍👍

Hey guys. Another amazing video. Nubie question here. How come you never land a sail fish? Too dangerous?
We try not to remove them from the water as it can damage the fish. Years ago everybody did that, nowadays many do not for the health of the fish. We were just going for technical releases, which means just grabbing the leader like we were doing.
What happens to the hook?
Great slow motion footage. Question, why does your dad always wear full zinc on his face? I'm guessing he doesn't like mask and/or doesn't trust the normal sunscreen?
Yeah he doesn't like the mask and he's had lots of skin surgeries due to not taking care of it when he was younger. So zinc offers all day protection he doesn't need to reapply. And it's also kind of become his look 😁

We dont keep the sailfish and I don't think there is any commercial fishery for them in the US. Strictly catch and release for us and we don't even like to remove them from the water to ensure their survival after landing. The stanczyk ladies couldn't make it out today unfortunately!
