Without Anna there wouldn't be a very happy ending Elsa would still be trapped in her room. Either that or she wouldn't have frozen anyone's head and she wouldn't be sentenced to her room at all.

I would say that Anna is the protagonist/main character! Elsa seems like the deuteragonist, and arguably, is one of the antagonists of the story who provides much of the conflict / inciting action :)
What are you basing this on? :) I mean sure, the movie is based on H.C. Andersson´s the Snow Queen but the story is told from Anna´s POV? :) Maybe they share the role, don´t think Disney has released any statement on this? :)

That's a good point, but Elsa made her like this. She was like that because elsa ignored her and made her feel so lonely that she had to talk to the paintings not to be alone. She was desperate to find someone who would be kind with her. I know that was not Elsa's fault if she coud not spend time with her sister, but Anna had to learn life by herself. She had no friend, no sister... No childhood. Of course she will try to go to the first stranger that would be nice to her. And anyway, she loves her sister so much that she will die for her, try to save her several times, even if elsa nearly killed her unwillingly several times. Anna's the one who went through the danger, even if she's the one who hasn't got any magic to defend herself. That's why I really feel like Anna is the real hero that no one sees, that's sad for her. But everyone has a different opinion!^^

Yeah, honestly the movie was meshed with 2 ideas. It lead up to Elsa initially being the villain. But then they changed it after the song so that she just became misunderstood and Hans is the villain. it really makes the movie quite weak narrative wise. And I personally feel it's because they initially wanted to tell the original story of the snow queen but then realised half way through that they could change the angle of the Snow Queen and make her a good misunderstood character. The result is that the story became a little clumsy as a result after Elsa's solo. I mean the morals and sisterly love is still great to see but I can definitely see them improving it in Frozen 2.
