That’s not the worst advice... She watches out for David and still thinks he is an amazing person and David watches out for her. In one of David’s lie detector vids, he was asked if he would save his friends or Liza. He answered his friends but the detector caught him lying. They obviously want to use that advice and were even using it before Liza appeared Steven Colbert’s show.

I don’t think that advice fits with her situation... they didn’t have a messy ending like a lot of people do. She just felt like she needed to work on her self first so that’s why she did it... they had a healthy relationship and they want to maintain that healthy relationship and not talking to him anymore would kinda turn that good connection into a negative one.

Even if a breakup is amicable, it’s not wise to stay friends. It makes it so much harder to heal with them in your face all the time. Also, one individual may secretly harbor feelings that are unrequited. There are few things that feel worse than unrequited love. Alsooooo, you can only grow and reflect when you’re away from the person. Reflection is something you have to do 100% alone. It’s ironic she said she did this to grow. I don’t think either of them has the clarity they need to think about how this has affected them and what they want to pursue. People who say that it’s possible to stay friends after a breakup tend to be young or inexperienced...orrrr egocentric maniacs who like to string exes along. Yikes.

I don’t think Stephen wanted the details of their breakup I think he wanted Liza to talk about why our generation does things like fully publicize a breakup. I think he wanted Liza to talk about the differences of TH-cam and mainstream media which would have been an interesting interview and informative to all the noodle heads that don’t understand the intimacy of consuming TH-cam regularly. And then I think Liza got nervous and just started talking about why they broke up and it got weird because why would someone that doesn’t know Liza and David or have any stake in their relationship care about why they broke up? idk just my take on it. 🤷♀️

To be fair, I don't think she would have taken it that way. She has been with David for so long and collaborated with him for so long, she probably thought it was self-explanatory why she would do it (people being fairly invested in them, them having worked together and wanting to clear things up so their respective fanbases don't go attacking one party or the other).

It's actually pretty helpful to do that in a timed interview. She was clearly nervous, excited and overwhelmed, and changing the topic kept her focused on the questions and not on how she was answering them, her insecurities, the publicity of the show, etc. Plus you have to give each question proper time to discuss.
Seeing how Stephen reacted to being told that he was Liza's biggest famous personality to meet after Obama, I'm sure they talked after or before recording for the show. Plus they brief interviewees on the questions that will be asked, so they likely talked a bit then, too.

I broke up with my " best friend " when we were 21... after 40 years we met again...he is one of my best friends now...he and I had a great life...he did things he could have never done with me....and I went ways that would have never been possible with him....we both are very happy that we reconnected.

potwhovian I think it’s a perfectly rational question. It’s only been a very recent development that people feel the need to share and overshare everything in their life. It’s odd for most people to see people explaining their breakup to what’s essentially strangers on the internet. I know younger people feel this is normal but for most of us it’s odd that people explain their most personal moments and situation with strangers. Airing out your dirty laundry used to be seen as ugly.

I completely understand how my parents generation, similarly to him, doesn't understand..but I believe that being that open about real life struggles that we all go through is helping and will continue to help with mental health. This is our generation's version of educating each other and taking care of one another. Not just the break ups, but the open and honest conversations people are able to have through TH-cam and other social media about depression, anxiety and suicide. It's encouraging people to speak up and get help. A lot of these kids biggest influences are showing the world that it's okay, to not be okay. They're revolutionizing the term "celebrity". It's not all gold and when these people in the spotlight are forced to pretend like they're perfect, they break. I'm so proud to see the direction our generation and those younger than us are taking things, in terms of mental health. Love you Liza!

How did I not know about her? Seems very down to earth and empathetic which are key qualities imo. Anyway I’m old but I can relate to some of the younger generation in that I internalize everything I experience, and sometimes making it visible is a wonderful way to deal...also helps others suffering the same to hear it from someone else, so I understand the draw to social media. Even if it’s a simple poem or YT documentary, art can set us free and bring us back together.

This is why we made a private thing into a TH-cam video for all to see” Her perspective is that of a young girl and very emotional (I get that because I have been her age before), that’s why she needs help with coaching. This interview was just so cringy. First let me say that I ADORE Liza, and when David and Liza were dating they were, like, my favorite couple. So needless to say, I was pretty saddened over hearing about their breakup. However, I'm glad they told us as I was beginning to wonder why Liza wasn't in his videos NEARLY as much as she used to be. At first, I tried to blame it on the fact that she was doing other projects, but my mind knew what my heart refused to accept. Now, I can't tell you how many times Liza has had to talk about and explain she and David's break up, but I can tell you how many times there should be: Once. And that one time should be in the video that she and David made.
As another person who commented said, I feel like The Late Show used Liza for views. Stephen Colbert is not one of my favorite late-night talk show hosts, I prefer Jimmy Fallon, James Corden, and Graham Norton. This interview was only about seven minutes long, and he spent half of it trying to get her to talk about the breakup (and out of that half, he spent half of THAT time interrupting her). I just feel like he should have used this opportunity to ask her more about a platform and career which he is not very familiar with, as well as questions that are more creative than asking about her love life, or lack thereof.

I love how she kept calm and collected (true fans would be able to tell how nervous she was) even after being asked about her breakup *AND* meeting someone who she's truly a fan of. Liza is honestly just an amazing person, which is why I'm happy to be a fan and to see her in the place she's in. Whatever happens in the future, I just hope she's alright.
First time I have ever disagreed with SC. I am friends with my ex, we were also both aware it was not a relationship that could go on as it was. Unfortunately, my ex was an addict and what we both went through was destructive, and hurtful and not motivated in moving forward. But now in recovery and doing well we are able to be in a relationship that's friendly and caring just not intimate. I fail to understand why two people who very obviously cared and loved each other can't care and love each other and just not be together. I hope to one day see my ex in a healthy happy relationship, it just won't be with me. Too often breakups are motivated in hurt and anger and wanting to "get back" at the other person as a motivator for their current feelings. With every break up there is a breaker and a breaker, the breaker has most often had the time and "safety" of mourning the relationship while they are still in it. But for the breakee they are forced to deal with all the same but having to find a place to live and the separation of belongings. It is so often as a reaction of hurt feelings that causes problems, separating possessions, or the dog or the kids becomes the focus and what so often causes the greatest fight and results in the love and caring from being lost.
