When I was a kid I had a massive crush on Octavia, I never understood it, it didn't make sense, she looks even more alien in her aquatic form, but to this day there's something about those eyes!
Warner Archive just needs to put this on DVD already. Thundercats has been released numerous times. Silver Hawks at least got one release (2 volumes on DVD). But Tigersharks never. Only a couple low quality episodes are on TH-cam. Also the Tigersharks had a "blink and you miss it" cameo in the 2011 Thundercats reboot on CN. Mon Star from Silver Hawks was shown as well. If only that show continued, there could have been an official shared universe.
Warner doesn't care about you or I. They don't make things that we want, if they did, they would stop making their DC movies out of garbage and expecting us to give them money for it.
I wonder how they'd rewrite some things then, since the original 3rd Earth was supposed to be an alternate Earth where Mumm-Ra took over and lead it to that. I know it was changed to that he was a space conqueror and Lion-O's ancestor overthrew him and they all crashed on there instead. Silverhawks where humans from Earth, except copper kid, and tigersharks are mostly made up of humans before they become hybrids, so I'm guessing they'll say Third Earth is just another planet.
I wished that TigerSharks have been released onto complete DVD collection too just like Thundercats and Silverhawks because it deserved to be remembered as well.
I'm _so_ ashamed. I was an 80's kid but don't remember this show _at all!_ I'm not even sure how I missed this, ESPECIALLY since my daddy was a famously *HUGE* fan of action cartoons from the 80's/90's and _stayed_ watching cartoons like this. I'm glad the video mentioned both _Thundercats,_ and _Silver Hawks_ towards the end, because as I was watching this, I couldn't stop thinking about just _how much_ this show seemingly reminds me of both of those two shows. Lately I've been binge watching this channel since I discovered you about a week or so ago. Please keep up with the *GREAT WORK* and interesting content! ♥️
It kinda bums me out when I realize that the only reason these shows existed was to sell toys to kids. If the toys didn't sell, the show didn't last, no matter how good the show actually was.
It's strange to look back at my childhood and realize just how commercialized Saturday mornings were.... between the cartoons, the toys and the marshmallow cereal 😋
There's nothing inherently bad about that kind of synergy. Same thing happened and happens with anime. Only problem is when the toy side affects the story side heavily, or with restrictions, or makes it more juvenile. Gundam was made to sell toys and a lot of other Mecha that still did more mature storylines. Nowadays a lot of shows are juvenile. And there's still a lot of commercialized things that have less world or story. Like the craft itself has become more juvenile. Partly because American cartoons started to go for a cheaper and younger crowd with humour. And commercialized toys tend to be for even younger than that. People also forget that even toylines had a lot of crafting involved. They sold you a whole world too. They probably still might, I don't really know.
Well done! I loved the Tigersharks! They are way overdue for a HD release of the complete series on Blu-ray. I would love for Super 7 to pick up this series as well and see what they could do with this series especially see the amazing job they are doing with the Thundercats and the Silverhawks with their Ultimates line. Having updated figures from all 3 series on my shelf would be a childhood dream cone true.
Nice review, but a little clarification is in order. Not all Tigersharks could actually breathe underwater. Lorca, Walro and Dolph could hold their breath for long periods, just like their animal counterparts, but had to eventually climb to the surface to breathe, a handicap that was actually used in the show as it imposed a limit to their time underwater. The Mantannas could not breath AIR, and once actually used the Fish Tank to transform into humans and walk on the surface of the planet without water helmets.
@@pandawolfpresents Absolutely hilarious. Those side fins on his head, the ones that make it look like a manta ray, become his hair, so he looks like Monstarr if his mom arranged his hair for the yearbook picture.
The narrator also pronounces Water-O the wrong way. He should have done some research before creating this video. How could he say the Mantennas couldn’t breathe underwater when he shows a clip of them talking underwater?
I have vague memories of this show. I used to watch Thundercats and Silverhawks fairly regularly. For some reason this show blended into Silverhawks in my mind and I thought those fish men were Silverhawk villains in my memory. The only distinct thing I remember was the bad guy ship leaking and that bug eyed guy saying, "we're taking in air! We'll drown!"
Love the coverage of the forgotten TigerSharks. Only issue with what was said is while you'd think Solemate's sword would come into play in battle, it was not shown in use in any "shows" that have surfaced. But she would use that crest thing on her head as a boomarang. Currently, only 10 shows have surfaced online, and one part of one. So not even half of the series can even be seen at all. A few episodes have surfaced in greek and spanish which is the only way to see them. The show had one VHS release with the two episodes explained in the video on it. Other than that since the early 90's the show hasn't aired on any TV stations worldwide. Without any releases during the last 30 some years, the series might be lost. Warner Brothers which bought the majority of Rankin/Bass' catalog would be the only ones to know. Oh well. Anyways great video.
As a kid I always hoped for a Thundercats,Tiger Sharks and Silverhawks crossover event. Any way I hope that this channel posts a retrospective of Jayce and the wheeled warriors...Quick changing fighting machines. Now the toy advertisement song is playing in my head lol
Comic Strip on Saturday mornings was definitely another favorite to wake up to back in the day. Kinda wished there was a crossover with the Thundercats and Silverhawks.
I'll be honest, I was only familiar with Tigershark from the 2011 series, which has a cameo of the Tigershark in one episode ( And yes, they were going to be expanded upon in the cancelled season, along with Silverhawks ). After watching the show myself, I quite enjoy it, despite some flaws ( Like T-Ray being a wasted potential villain and kinda bland in my opinion. Like if you rework his character, he could've been a pretty interesting villain, since his motive is all about resettling on a planet, after his home is dried up ). I will admit, the action figures themselves are extremely expensive. So much so, I felt kinda bad for those who lost em. But I really would love to see Tigershark return, even if it unlikely, due to how obscure it is.
Could you maybe Cover the Comic series „Once and Future" ? It's brilliant, it's like the Legend of King Arthur mixed with Wytches and Hellboy. Bloody, brutal and absolutely beautifully drawn
So the 2 biggest toy related cartoons(Transformers and GIJoe) went off the air in 87 and super obscure Tigersharks with no name recognition has no problem getting a cartoon.
I remember these guys from Thundercats Roar. Be more interesting if a forgotten show like this got a reboot. Note: Anyone that hated Roar can just shut up!
T-Ray always gave me the creeps but his slited eyes on his black manta head imagine being in the ocean in the dark & seeing only his slited eyes swimming towards you?
Tigersharks were awesome !! I didn't know they made toys out of it though, the toys look rather cheap compared to other cartoon toys of the time. It's pretty sad they never explored that universe further to make it a fully fledged cartoon like the thundercats and silverhawks. I remember waiting anxiously for comic strip and how angry I was when they were not showing a tigershark episode because I really didn't care of their other cartoons.
I met the original Japanese director for this show, Silverhawks and Thundercats on Twitter a year or two ago and we started following each other, Yuji Yatabe, @yuji_ultimate. He’d love to see this so I’m gonna have to share this video with him.
I think it would have been cool if there were crossover episodes between the three shows. Damn pity. I think 3-5 seasons (26 ep a season) would have been great.
Tigersharks didn’t “copy” Thundercats as much as it followed the same template. Those two and Silverhawks were all created by the same creative team and have long been considered a part of the same universe. With these three you have three loose representations of the four elements, air, water and earth being represented by Silverhawks. Tigersharks and Thundercats respectively.
😂🤣 ThunderCats clone, I believe they made TigerSharks for a reason just like SilverHawks land, sea and air heroes basically from the same creators ...or same unjverse

Tigersharks aired in 1987; the same year Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles first aired. Such a pivotal moment for Saturday Morning cartoons.
Cereal and the tube
I wished that TigerSharks have been released onto complete DVD collection too just like Thundercats and Silverhawks because it deserved to be remembered as well.
FINALLY!!!!!! Someone else remembers this cartoon
I loved this show. They were like organic, transforming aquatic creatures.
I always hoped for the dream crossover of Thunder Cats, Silver Hawks, and Tigersharks.
I haven't EVER seen nor heard of this show, until now!
It came out before I was born.

I do remember but only just now realized that was a separate show from Silverhawks. My memory had merged the few episodes I caught with that show.
This video just unlocked a dormant part of my childhood.
I've had this theme tune stuck in my head for about 35 years. Thanks for posting some more info on the show.

I'll admit that I'm unfamiliar with this program however I'll also admit I love that manta ray design for that ship!!
I watched the show when I was younger and I thought it was amazing
Looks pretty cool.
Born in 1982. I preferred this to Thundercats.
I had forgotten about this show and i am sure i am not the only one.
I made a Reboot of this inside my head. Its like a mix of Thundercats 2011 and Voltron Legendary Defender.
I picked Mark Hamill as Captain Bizarrely.
This show was seriously underrated!
Comic Strip on Saturday mornings was definitely another favorite to wake up to back in the day. Kinda wished there was a crossover with the Thundercats and Silverhawks.

I love this show, I was so bummed that it was so short lived...and the planet name is pronounced waterro with the emphasis on the second syllable.

Land - Thundercats
Water - Tigersharks
