I love this. I always wondered why Sturm didn't get a factory - he would make best use of it by far and it makes sense since he's the big baddie stealing resources to invade. I never beat the Hard Campaign of AW2 but it was always about sneaking a bomber to the death ray. As we see, it isn't so easy here and everything has and needs a purpose. Especially since you have to deal with a lot more Meteor Strikes and game mechanics and can get debilitated in a single meteor or factory deployment. Well done, Kartal!
Mangs isn't stupid. Seems to me like he just has ADHD (a condition that I could relate to), given how impulsive and hyper-focused he seems to be at the detriment of forgetting about pretty much everything else, which I believe is also his biggest weakness in competitive play in general. I mean, Mangs made so many mistakes and still won rather effortlessly, so it doesn't seem much more challenging than the original. Maybe Sturm should start with a bigger army (a smarter AI would also help, but I guess that is much more difficult).
@@Yuni-is-Schrodingers-Fox I disagree. The C-Rank does not come from the mission being (overtly) difficult, but rather from his own mistakes. At no point in time was Mangs actually anywhere near close to being even threatened to lose let alone actually lose (or at least lose an ally). None of his armies were obliterated (or came close to it), Sturm never came close to capturing any HQs and the AI did a very poor job at defending strategic points. In my opinion "difficult" does not mean you get a C or simply fail to get S or A. If anything, you should finish with E (at least the first time and considering the many mistakes that happened). To me "difficult" entails first and foremost, that you are actually in danger of failing the mission and that you actually have to think a few turns ahead. You should have to overcome a steep slope, which was never the case in this mission. Mangs effortlessly won the mission en passant, if you will, as a sideline, nothing major that was concerning him (he himself even often commented on his many mistakes). And the simple fact that 2 shots from a mere battleship suffice to win the match is almost enough to not consider it difficult, beacuse no matter how difficult it may be to actually land on the northern island - you never have to. And since the AI is still rather stupid, you can easily sneak in a battleship (probably even a bomber) and win the day with no effort whatsoever.
You forgor! ...again Remember when you were theorizing that the meteor's AI wouldn't hit the highest priority target if there was a friendly unit in range? Also, when you realised you were in need of AA or some other units, you could have combined infantry or straight up save a little
Once again, you ask yourself why naval unit are so bad (and Drake is so bad). I think it's a balance thing who was overcompensating: once deployed the naval unit shooting at distance is a better rocket: better mobility (at least on map with more than 4-5 tiles of water), and better range. So they had to make it costly (but they made the cost a bit too high, around 18k would have better in my opinions). Next submarine: they can shoot down easily a so costly unit, so they need to also have a high cost, but less than the previous. I would that with the given cost of the indirect unit I can't remember the name of, its cost is logical. But if the cost of the other boats were lower it would be needed to make his own lower as well. Same thing for the last battle boat, the cruiser if I don't make an error. The lander is closer to a logical prize. With the campaign (and war room) having so much pre-deployed units, the utility of an unit who can move any two terrestrial units at one time across sea was a bit overestimated. I would have make it 9-10k instead of 12k, but it is adjusted when you think about the game itself and not the competition who appeared later. And finally, Drake. If my theory of a late balance change overcompensating the power of naval unit is right, then Drake was really strong before that change just because of the +1 movement, but they didn't changed it during that change to naval unit, so it's also bad.
Drake is definitely not a bad CO. You can definitely choose him as an alternative to Olaf because of his COP and SCOP alone. His only weakness is having slightly worse air units, which is attack power, and air units are known for being volatile units (for better or for worse). But Naval units could definitely use a price buff and some other buffs, considering they are exclusive to their own little microgame.

@Karsa hyena Yeah, that's what I thought. I remember that after a tsunami or typhoon I had planes about to crash so I put them next to an APC thinking they would be resupplied at the start of the turn... but then they just sank. FML.
I feel like Sturm could gave gotten away with a bigger starting army. He might be smarter and better placed, but he was kind of a non threat just out of virtue of having no units.
@@magnumfang Well, he doesn't have the funds to use those bases, so that point is mute. As for the factory, the factory is helpful, but know this, "A unit now is always better than a unit later". Would you rather fight a Sturm that starts with 10 Mechs or a Sturm that on turn 20 in a 20 turn game gets 50 Neotanks? By the time the Neotanks appear the game is over! This is why Mangs said the maps this fella makes "Get harder over time", yes, that's true, but harder means nothing when you yourself also get stronger, and are able to snowball harder than Sturm can. You have three COs, Sturm is one fella, with a super power that gets harder to use over time while everyone else gets theirs easier. Even the laser that can be a cop-out of a "secondary power" is very predictable and generally just worse than a super power. Now, if Sturm could have more units at the start to buy him time to actually snowball properly... Maybe it'd be more balanced. Keep in mind, Mangs played rather poorly and still managed. Olaf did nothing basically, for example.

dual strike is more related to the game youre seeing Mangs play (advance wars 2). Days of ruin has completely different characters and different units. Personally i have every single game and would recommend dual strike. it has more things to offer aside the main campaign, more characters and more units. Its a much more fun game compared to days of ruin in my own opinion.
@@jaxpot7775 Honestly, I was thinking of some mini black cannons in particularly annoying spots (probably blocking or covering some paths) and a second Factory. Just to really make you suffer. And give Sturm more properties, for extra funds. Probably place some ranged units with them in very defensive spots. Reinforce the units Sturm has on the player island. Finally, I would do the very cruel thing and give Sturm a small number of Subs (like, 2-3) hiding right at the beginning. Probably with that AI alteration so they stay hidden.

@Karsa hyena Yeah, that's what I thought. I remember that after a tsunami or typhoon I had planes about to crash so I put them next to an APC thinking they would be resupplied at the start of the turn... but then they just sank. FML.
58:32 this moment made me laugh my ass off 😂😂😂 it’s like a Greek tragedy
the meteor bait thing seems to work very well for you
At 11:00 why not use the infantry to scout the sub?
I feel like Sturm could gave gotten away with a bigger starting army. He might be smarter and better placed, but he was kind of a non threat just out of virtue of having no units.
He does have a factory though, which is pumping units every turn. Plus his bases.
Ask, and Kartal will create.
The first meteor was a pathetic infantry meteor that had two Kanbei infantry and some other value as its absolute best target. 😂
Damn, this game looks sick. I really wanna get the advance wars 1&2 reboot on switch but its so far away till release. Im looking at getting a ds version to wet my apatite (i have a 3ds and switch). Which of advance wars: dual strike or days of ruin (or other) would you recommend?
dual strike is more related to the game youre seeing Mangs play (advance wars 2). Days of ruin has completely different characters and different units. Personally i have every single game and would recommend dual strike. it has more things to offer aside the main campaign, more characters and more units. Its a much more fun game compared to days of ruin in my own opinion.
Thanks kartal to increase the dificulty
Xenesis Xenon... been a while since I heard that name.
@Kartal Preach. My first encounter with Xen's work was like 15 years ago, via the balance hack on Wars World News. Glad to know the legacy lives on.
I want to play this so badly. where can i download it? Haven't found it in the discord links below :(
I was literally saying to myself i bet mangs didnt notice the airport on olafs first turn, and low and behold! 😂😂
...So...ah....When's the Lunatic+ version?
Y'know, for the real masochists?
What? Is there just going to be cannons everywhere?
@@jaxpot7775 Honestly, I was thinking of some mini black cannons in particularly annoying spots (probably blocking or covering some paths) and a second Factory. Just to really make you suffer.
And give Sturm more properties, for extra funds. Probably place some ranged units with them in very defensive spots.
Reinforce the units Sturm has on the player island.
Finally, I would do the very cruel thing and give Sturm a small number of Subs (like, 2-3) hiding right at the beginning. Probably with that AI alteration so they stay hidden.
Why is the video only available in 360p? Or is that on my end?
It looks like the map it's still not thaaaaat hard, say the people, so, let's try an hyphotetic Hachi Challenge of this map. You could just force the player on a composition of P1 Sami, P2 Sonja and P3 Jess, in that order, but that's too simple of a handicap, so, here is something else more crazy:
Hachi: What? This mission is too easy? I know just what you need!: *"Destroy all Mini Cannons and the Black Cannon before the Death Ray, you cannot build Bombers and Battleships, and delete your starting ones inmediately, also, Green Earth COs and Kanbei are banned, if you picked any of them, I will give you the failing quote right away* ("Wow wow, you done messed up, restart quz you failed my ask!", it was something like that, whenever you messed up the Challenge on AW Returns). *Ha ha, have fun destroying the cannons and Sturm with Tanks and BattleCopters!* .
Kartal really is the mvp
Me at the start: Kartal did it.
Six seconds later: Yep xD
I would argue for busted grit battleships
KARTEL WAR ROOM WHEN MANGS!?
I kind of want this in the mangswars hack ngl
Mangs, I would like to play against you in Advance Wars By Web, please. Choose your terms, just as long as real life materials aren't traded around, the map is balanced, and the game is 1v1. It would be fun and a good way to learn a lot. I don't care if you video me or not. Interested?
Hmm... can this be converted into an AWBW map?
These are always interesting.
Do the war rooms for us itlog
