- Hey all!
Back with one of the coolest songs ever played by one of the coolest cats ever.. Steve Lukather! He's played with everyone from Michael Jackson to Aretha Franklin to Olivia Newton-John and everyone in between. Such a tasteful guitar player with incredible lead chops. This guy can burn and yet still play so melodically. I also love his ability to incorporate outside tonalities without venturing too far into jazz/fusion territory (which he definitely can also do). I did my best effort to pick out the clean and distorted parts from this song. It's a very parts-oriented track and Steve's minimalist playing especially in the verses suits the song perfectly. The verse groove is almost funk-based and if it weren't for the overdubbed distorted electrics which add that hard rock edge, the song itself could arguably pass for a soul/gospel tune.
Anyway, hope you all dig my rendition. This may be my last upload for the year, but I'll be sure to hit the ground running come January '22. Thanks for all the support on my channel and my videos. I'm finally seeing some serious growth in the number of subscribers and views I'm getting on here. 🤘🏻

- General key: First part of the verse G major, second part modulates to F major, then modulates again to G minor for the Pre-Chorus and then F major for the chorus
- Tempo: ~82 BPM (the song is actually a half-time shuffle feel so it could also be considered in double-time at ~164 BPM. You could also argue that the time signature is 5/4 or 12/8!
- Relative difficulty level: Easy rhythm parts, intermediate solo with a fast run
- Techniques used: Palm muting, "in-the-pocket time", string skipping, bends, slides, hammers and pulls, vibrato
- Song structure: Intro/Verse Pt.1/Verse Pt. 2/Pre-Chorus/Chorus/Verse Pt. 1/Verse Pt. 2/Pre-Chorus 2/Chorus 2/Solo (*NOTE*- I omitted the David Paich's epic keyboard solo before the guitar solo as well as the final pre-chorus, chorus, and ending solo for the purposes of audience retention, those parts are unbelievable as well.)
