It was 2001 when i played this game. I was 13 back then. Thank you for making this review. I never played the first one so i didnt have any expectations on the second. I love this game so much purely because of the nostalgic value it has to me.

This game is my childhood. It's undoubtedly the best game I've played in all my life and even more undoubtedly the most underrated game. Alundra 1 is a masterpiece. But Alundra 2 is what made me love video games. The story was quirky but unique. The wind-up key element within the story is flawless.
The characters had clear personalities and goals. Boss designs were sick. Sooo many bosses that all end with the most badass explosions. Puzzles that made me exercise my 6 year old brain. Which actually did help me a lot in school.
It forced me to learn to read and enjoy the tale. The Puzzles! They taught me that you can figure out your way around anything if you just keep on trying and thinking of another way. And most importantly: it taught me to appreciate the legacy of the toilet!

its a 6/10 game at best, poured so many hours on this in the same year as you, camera sucks, game is too difficult but really rewarding, combat sucks, its an ok game

@@skjor1989 Game isn't difficult at all. It was difficult if you're impatient and not get the necessary healing items or upgrades. But compared to Alundra 1, its a cake walk. It's clear that it was meant more for children as apposed to it's predecessor. And Alundra 1 had horrific combat. At least in Alundra 2 you were able to pull out satisfying combos after collecting the puzzle pieces and even allow you to go wild with the Elemental Rings. Alundra 1 only allowed you to use those Element attack just once if you don't have the potions to refill your Magic Meter.
Remember that this was back in the 90s and 3D was barely a fully functioning option. The fact that they created such a massive world that you can walk and interact with without getting lost in and connect every item and location together, for it's time was a massive accomplishment. Of course there are better games nowadays. But if this game were ever to be remade and enhancements in the combat along with better camera work and directional button input, it would be considered a masterpiece. Especially by today's standard.

@@EvilGeniusRANIK I've spent months playing the game and finished it, maybe its hard for me back then because English wasn't my native language, at 2001, I am only at 6th grade and I hated school but loved games, going back maybe it wasn't hard, since I had the same issues with FFVII i was stuck at sector 7 when I was about to climb the huge wall lol. I can still remember the game is quite good but its an ok game, reason why I played it because I don't have anything else to play, 6/10 might be a bit harsh, I guess its a 7/10 at best, 6/10 at worst.

The best game in the 90s. No one talks about this game. Heck, i dont know anyone who plays this.
I also like that enemies have a key on their backs just like toys. its so unique.

Thanks for putting effort into the review. Trying to go through the PS1 library to see what I missed but might want to try out, and this kinda thing is helpful. Think I’ll end up giving this one a shot.

Oh shit, a relatively fresh Alundra 2 review? Nice, happy to see someone cover the game.
Definitely enjoyed it as a kid and just after my recent playthrough i have an even bigger appreciation for it. Though very simple and janky i enjoyed the combat. A few of the puzzles were challenging even on a replay and the tone, though different is a lot of fun.
First one is and always will be my favorite game ever, but this one is pretty damn good too.
Although.. I ended up taking on the big boy challenge and went for 100%.. This was a HUGE mistake. The amount of grinding needed on the minigames is unbelievable. I will never, ever EVER do it again.
Throwing and collecting darts alone i had to dedicate several drinking nights to and i'm not sure if it was the beer or the darts but fuckin shit i had so many headaches.
If i didn't have my mates to talk to while doing it i would have gone nuts for sure.

I still have that game but lost my PS1 Memory Card somehow. Really found that game impressive at the time. The cutscenes gave me always that adventure anime feel. Would highly enjoy if this one ever got adapted for a remake or animated show.

I liked all ps1 games a lot when I was a kid. Wasting most of my childhood sitting and staring at the tv. I'm still glad I did.
Now that I'm playing modern games, I remembered how much I enjoyed those old school games.

If you are a kid back in the good old days, this looks neat. Kids today just got used to almost-realistic graphics from games these days.
Also, back when played this in our PS1 console, I got stuck with bloodfang. I was THIS close to giving up in beating the game. I just realized you just have to attack him while he was invis dashing or trip him by sliding to his predicted path

wow... this is great! I love every part of this review, it's my childhood game and I get easily angered at the people that have your "first impression after expecting an Alundra sequel" reaction, because they are not taking the whole bad marketing into consideration and analysing it as a standalone... thank you for this video, I had lots of fun and I'd share it with people I want to present the game if it didn't have spoilers but it's ok, you got me a lot of good arguments I can use now! new sub by the way, I'm gonna watch other reviews you do since the presentation could easily sell me any game, good or bad! last thing: if you want to be a part of our Alundra 2 community, we have a discord server where we talk about it, discover hidden stuff, develop mods, we have achievements for retroarch, optimizations for speedruns, funny bugs etc... so if you're interested just ask me for the link :)

This game was terrible in comparison to the first one!

    • @dextersbeard3472
      @dextersbeard3472 ปีที่แล้ว +5

It's a good game, look at it for what it is, not what it isn't. It will never be Alundra 1, that doesn't mean it's terrible though. If it didn't have the title Alundra 2 then it wouldn't be so widely hated on, it would be a fondly remembered PS1 action RPG. Stop associating it with the first game and enjoy it for what it is, its own unique game.

It is sad that the only reason people hate this game is because " it's not the first alundra".
