M graham's Diox Purple is one of the most intense colors I've ever seen. A truly economical choice, because most people will definitely only need a little at a time, watered down. lol I adore it.

Hard agree. Easily the strongest wc paint I own.

I have several M.Graham tubes in my collection. The only Dioxazine Purple I’ve ever used is M.Graham’s. I did just get the Ultramarine Violet Deep as Cheap Joe’s listed it as the bluer shade containing PB29. I was disappointed when it came because I already had the Winsor & Newton Ultramarine Violet.

Thanks Oto. I have two of these. I'm thinking of getting mineral violet and viridian.

Another fabulous episode. I’ve been thinking of adding a violet to my M.Graham collection. You’ve given me lots to consider. I’ll be pulling out my swatch sheets and doing some analysis. Thanks again for such an in depth exploration of these paints.

Very thorough Oto. I’ve the MG Quin set and my goodness, all are lovely. The Ultramarine Violet is a lovely alternative to Ultra Blue; I need to explore that combo. And their Diox Purple (can’t spell lol) as well, for those gradations. Thanks for this 🦩🌺

I bought their cobalt colors - and they are lovely! Great mixes. Cobalt Violet is one of my favorites - I don't have a lot of their colors, but they lay down super easy and are nicely vibrant.

I have the Dioxazine Purple and love it. Now I'm eyeing the Cobalt Violet and thinking my next Ultramarine Blue will be MG as well. :-)

I have a few of these; viridian and cobalt violet are my favorite M.Grs. I'm going to put aside time to learn to work with M Graham more, because I'm that happy with some of their paints. But I struggle with "brand mixing" the most with M Graham because their paints take longer to "dry" (or is it, get less sticky? I really don't know.) But used in mixes, the cobalt violet is so impressive, and there are a few that (when watered down a certain way) dry as expected with other brands.
I think I have most big brands' UMBlue (B29) and this one really "bothers" me. (Note: their single pigment yellow and indian yellow get a lot of use, not just "special use" like viridian and cobalt violet, so it's not like I don't like M. Graham). But their PB29 is just so "in your face". It's very nice in a very light wash (and I mean, probably 75% water), but I definitely can't dip my brush in and start painting with it: It's "clown blue"; crayola blue. BLUE. I saw the comments here where people love this PB29 and I appreciate that; I'm just not used to it, I guess. And another thing is, I can't mix it, and I think PB29 should be one of the easiest, least-surprising mixers, right?
Anyway, VERY fond of cobalt violet in landscapes. It can also work like that one lapis lazuli (brand name withheld) in "lightening" a high-staining paint! _I've faked a gradated wash that way_ 😂. (With the cobalt violet, not the disappearing lapis laz tube I'm embarrassed I fell for). I tried many other cobalt violets, and this one's a clear winner afaic. (I'm fond of Schminke and Sennelier, but am not a fan of their cobalt violets; I think Sennelier was going for opera pink and failed, so slapped cobalt violet on the tube and called it a day.) M. Graham's got some strong contender paints and cobalt violet is one of them, for sure.

PB60 Indanthrene blue from them is my love apart of viridian and Cobalts from Mgrahams..PO48 quin rust is also fire, with any Indian yellow make quin gold...I mix all,cos get cheapest pigments from White Nights 10ml for 3,20£ and from more expensive get just what I can’t get there or want cos prefer from others.Shminkes potters pink is my love from shminke, worth paying for,Cobalts from Mgrahams and viridian are best there is in market..Lunar Black and cobalt blue pb50 from Daniel Smith I like cos of tone and granulation.I prefer to get it like, don’t spend on basic lemon yellow or quinacradone I can get cheap more, then I spend more money on good paper,I’m on budget so mixing is life.Dont fear mixing paints, what’s worst there can happen?anyways you’ll learn priceless lessons no matter what

@@ligaskirbauska8652 Oh, yeah Quin Rust from M. Graham is on my short list (because of Mind of Watercolor YT channel). I forgot Cobalt Blue from MGr. though I use it a lot. I'm just not a fan of their PB29.
I was 'okay' with Schm. Potter's Pink, but 😖I got a _little_ nuts with the super-granulatings (for me, "nuts"; I'm careful throwing large cash at expensive paints that are probably series 1 with some mica thrown in). I got about 4 super-granulatings, and I'm replacing my Potter's Pink with Schm. Galaxy Pink. 😨 I spent nearly a full day comparing the two, and mixing up lots of paints with them: that Galaxy Pink is going in my Potter's Pink palette space. It's a keeper. It's what I wanted the Schm. Potter's Pink to be! Of course I don't dislike Schm. Potter's Pink, and I'm sure I'll find a use for it (perhaps shadows, as I'd been doing), but play around with the Galaxy Pink. I had no idea it would be so fun to work with!
I don't have M.Graham's PB60. Now I feel temptation coming on! 😂 I'm so fond of Sennelier's Indanthrene (dark blues/indigos/phthalos.. that's my jam!) I'll stick the PB60 and the Quin Rust in my March cart! Thanks!
Not sure where you live, but the Etsy store Prodigal Son has some CRAZY great smalt. *The real thing.* Blows W&N Smalt hue out of the water! I've never seen anything like it, tbh. It's not cheap, and if you're like me and you have pets, you don't want them lapping it up. -Courtesy of Kim Crick last month... she asked the guy what kind of supply he had, and he's got plenty of legit Smalt pigment. And many more I can't afford, but that Smalt is a game-changer. I think I'm heading into my "blue period" (like Picasso's 😂).

@@MelanCholy2001 I love potters pink in mixes exactly for granualtion.with PB60 as example it makes very cool mixes.PB60 is intense blue, very watered down is beautiful for shadows in snow, very easy and fast painting winter scenes, goes dark till almost black,so it’s cool colour and paint to play alone too.I love all blues and Cobalts too,not very keen on ultramarines really, prefer cobalt blue, not so clown blue, looks I think better in mixes..never tried smalt pigments, will have to check and research them, you just dropped me hook I’m bitting, can’t resist to try out something new, especially if someone says it’s game changer, thanks a lot for suggestion.
Enjoy you’re blue phase! Blue is beautiful,so many grate blues out there.i find it very calming looking at paintings where are loads of blue

I think Dioxazine Purple and Cobalt Violet are the beautiful of this lot.
Don’t you think you should have included PB60 here? I think it should come after the Dioxazine Purple or after the Ultramarine Violet.

I just love this series! I would like to know which warm yellow of theirs is your favorite. I know that’s not these colors, it’s just the color I need most right now. Oh I would love it if you would tell us if the pigments you review are toxic or not. That’s a big deal for some of us. Just a thought, thanks for considering😊
