That was the best vocal jam I've ever heard.
Way to go trey, this is great what he did. I had to turn my life around as well and its great to see big stars supporting a wonderful cause and being so humble.
For those of you who dont know...He´ś a huge rock star. Im glad they said that.
Love you Trey!!!!
Dank you trey 😀😀😀
It saved my ass from getting raped in jail
they tell me that no matter how long you travel the narrow road of recovery the ditch is still the same distance away this is not meant to be comforting but rather honestly sobering and scare us into submission. . .it never worked on me but knowing that Jesus said to the adulterer go and sin no more now that does scare me a little bit
During the time he was still going to drug courts, Trey actually took the time out of his day to give me a guitar lesson. I met him in a cafe and he offered it to me and gave me an hour long lesson and took pictures with my family. He was tight on time so he could show up to his next appointment and he still did it for us.
1 year clean and sober thanks to drug court
he's an inspiration! he's an inspiration! he's an inspiration to us all!!
Man... I'm not a phish fan (WSMFP), but trey is the fucking man. I never knew this about him. I just graduated drug court this year 2015 and it literally saved my life as well. Thank you Trey!!!
Hope you're still doing well dude
hope you’re doing good man!
How can you not love this guy he is really one of the best people out there in this world
The pull over happened hundreds of yards from my house in the small town of whitehall. I want a huge phish fan in 2006 I was still in high school. I am a huge phish fan now and have in more recent years been getting sober. I love old phish but the newer songs like Everythings Right, Light, and Tide Turns have helped me through some hard times in my early sobriety.
bliiiind and dirrrrrrrrrrrty, aked me fro a dime, a dime for a cup of coffee
Thanx Trey, been struggling with recovery for 3 years now (Alcohol) get short periods of sober time. Hopping this time it sticks. I'm actually watching (for the first time) with 46 days under my belt. No joke.
Hope it sticks
Thank you
Cheesecake!!!
We love you Trey!! I am amazed at his being nervous wringing his hands and all.Plays for 10s to 100s of thousnds of people on stage without skipping a beat is totally nervous to speak in this crowd. So proud of you Trey keep coming back!!
"I guess I'll just kinda tell you the story a little bit.." Pulls a guitar out from behind the podium and busts into harpua. can't believe you missed it man
I'm just glad Trey is healthy and happy. He has given so much to the world with his music, and to me, that we should all be thankfull. He is a musical genius. Just saw the band here in San Diego, and they rocked for three and a half hours.....priceless.
Aww lucky. I live in San Diego and wanted to see them live but missed it. Hope you had an amazing time.
I am so glad that drugs did not kill you Trey, or me either for that matter! Now PHISH is back together, blessing us with their musical talent and awe inspiring shows. The way the band plays together and connects with the audience, is the closest thing to perfection that I personally have ever experienced! I hope that PHISH continues to tour for as long as humanly possible, I'm sure many out there would agree with me, PHISH 3.0 ; "Was if to this my life I sought?" Keep touring and we will come!
"Trey Is OK". Thank God. There's a few faces on this planet that fill me with unabashed joy. My daughters, Jerry Garcia, and Trey Anastasio. What a Summer. Considering Chicago and Watkins, this man is on the top of his game
Since the rate for addicts and alcoholics in recovery is less than 10% (even with treatment and 12-step plan attendance), I wonder if he is still trudging the path....? Hope so... I always enjoyed Phish live shows 100% straight. As a musician, I wanted to really watch what was going on, as they are 4 of the best musicians on the planet.
I wonder the same thing. There is a group called the phellowship that has a meeting at set break.
I'm pretty sure he stays sober. Sorry I don't remember the source, but he's been quoted saying something like "I hate drugs." You can see how genuine he is in this video, though I know even the most genuine addicts in recovery can relapse, I'm pretty sure he's still on the straight and narrow. Nice news for all us phans.
65Superhawk,
12-step programs don't keep records of attendance, please explain how you arrived at that 10% figure.
12-step doesn't work for everybody, including me. I attended SMART Recovery meetings.
Trey helped me get my life on track! ✌👍👊
Trey, you da man. The cop that pulled Trey over saved his life.
I'm 13 months clean myself. We don't have Drug Court in Canada, but the judges have many of the same powers to order treatment & service.
To all my addiction comrades: stay strong, get help, & get/stay clean. Life is worth it, no lie.
I’m alright! He’s alright! Cause he went to drug court!!
I still struggle with alcoholism but it’s nothing as bad as back in the day when I was at my 100th show.
Trey really really is a nice kind soul- I’ve met him a few times
i revisit this from time to time because it is so inspiring. keeps me in check.
just noticed the outro music is "Life is A Highway"...an appropriate tune indeed for the touring wizard. ANd also for drug recovery
"There's a world outside every darkened door
Where blues won't haunt you anymore"
if you go listen-its the Tom Cochrane version. killer tune.
So happy and so touched to see that Trey's not only an amazing musician (to say the least) but WAY beyond that...a human being that completely turned his life around and that is willing to share and pass the message to others! Before being a rockstar he's a human, a father, a son...someone's whose loved! Great message! Thank you Trey!
He can still rip a crunchy groove without all of the smack and booze. Good for him! He seems like a good guy too.
I could listen to this, even in the middle of a FORBIN!!! The "Keep Trey Sober" sticker will remain on the back of my car til' the rain washes it away!
What a winner and an inspiration you are.
Desiree
Nine years sober myself, I love that Trey is living a sober life. I traveled Phish tour for years. Maybe some of his new found freedom to help clean up the trouble that follows his crew around the country.
I followed as well. And just the same, ended up going to prison for similar things. Sober now, still a HUGE FAN! And as always, THANK YOU TREY AND PHISH FOR EVERYTHING. LOVE YOU ALL!
This is just really, really cool. Substance abuse can result in true misery. I'm so happy for him for what he is doing.
Wish the person in my life struggling with addiction had the same outlook as you Trey! You are the fucking man!
Treythoven.
I too am a CT drug court graduate. It is so very strict . I too had to go to court every Wed and groups three times a week as well as an individual session bi-weekly. Early on I went to jail for two weeks for being late 12 minutes. While in jail I had ample time to think about how I wanted to be successful in this program and at life in general. It truly was a blessing being sent to jail. I completed the program and have been clean for over a year. Now I see Phish sober and it's great!
muleskinmcnugent I hope you are still doing well.
Me too! I love going to shows sober & actually remembering the shows:) I lost my drivers licence in Saratoga and HAD to go to the police station after a 3 night run because I needed ID to fly outta NY and the cop I was talking to saw my Phish shirt & started telling me how he was the guy who arrested Trey years earlier and had just transferred there. It was bizarre;)
It's very cool for Trey to spread this message to his phans. It's a shame Phish and drug abuse have to go hand in hand for some people, they need to just appreciate the music. Very inspiring.
Shit I did drug court too and I made it through' No felony Pham ayyyyyye!!!!!!!
Love watching this video whenever I need to be strong. I am not addicted to drugs or alcohol (anymore), but doesn't mean I'm still not an addict. Need to look to others for strength sometimes. Thanks Trey!
So glad Trey came through this with his head on right. I hope the phans take note and watch out for each other.
The Dead had a great song about a guy down on his luck, a boozer, called "Wharf Rat". Of course the Dead's audience had a lot of experience with getting high, and the fans among them who wanted to get straight and support each other in doing so called themselves - in full knowing irony - the "Wharf Rats". They'd meet before, during and after shows and help each other out.
What an amazing human being. I love this guy.
How dark it is before the dawn!
It’s called talking the talk and walking the walk...Trey does both
The music is better now that he's clean IMO
I never thought I'd hear an anti-drug speech that I respected. I know he likely doing whatever he had to and saving his ass saying whatever or doing whatever they suggested that would play well to the prosecution, but this was actually completely positive and actually geared towards truly positive change. Living in California, when (I think) Prop 36, the prop that passed about the law that made drug court an alternative to jail sentencing I was super glad, and it has worked well. My first year voting, that was the prop I was most passionate about. This dude is a great example of why that's the route to go instead of just jail time, and what a great platform to help a lot of people evade the horrible cycle of being in the jail system. I truly see this dude as a completely amazing and genuine, not to mention exceedingly talented, badass person.
Great job Trey. Thank you for the happiness you have given me as a “phan” and for your work to promote drug courts. We now have a drug court in Dare County, North Carolina. Your example of recovery & success is a shining example of the good drug courts accomplish.
What a humble man with a positive message about life. I am glad he was able to share it with me
Sunlight of the spirt :)
Go Trey. I'm almost two years clean and sober. You are an inspiration. See you sunday. Play fluff head
hey, the gift of desperation. Merry Christmas! been clean and sober since dec 2, 2016... just another dopeless hope fiend bozo on the bus reaching my hand out to pass along to the next sufferer what was freely given to me. so I'll take another 24 hours
Colonel Forbin, stared up at the mountain...
drug court is definitely the more reasonable approach to the drug addiction problem. Throwing people in jail and treating them like criminals only makes the problem worse. How can you get back on your feet if you have felonies on your record. We need to take a public health approach in this country to drug use. Feeding the law enforcement machine the billions of dollars to prop up a broken system is tragedy and a waste.
Such a sweet and honest soul. We’re so lucky to have this inspiration- Love you more than words Trey!
he seems like a humble guy. good for him.
Hey Trey, we have known each other since 1984.
I've got to say, I have never been so proud of you, Truly PROUD
and so happy for you, Sue, the girls, and your family. We haven't seen each other for a few years. Hopefully we can catch up soon. You don't know how happy I am for you my friend, to see you come out the other side, SO ALIVE ~ " Harry Hood "
winning!
Thank you, Trey. I'm so grateful for the myriad of blessings you share with the world as testament to your recovery. You shine in our hearts and give us true joy without ceasing. Thank you for growing with love. Your message of service is so key. I have a plastic ice cream sample spoon I display that reminds me to serve others. Your willingness to convey these bold messages is affirming to the vast population of music lovers who find refuge in the home you've created on the road. God bless you!
:) So glad he is happy and healthy making the best music on earth!
Thanks for this Trey. Phish fan since way early 90's Seeing you clean sure beats another Serenity Knolls horror story.
👏👏👏👏 trey, i will always love this and what PHISH has provided to people. Please be careful with drugs and alcohol people, it is a very slippery slope. I have fallen many times, but i feel that this govt. service can help so many. LOVE GUYS, ITS ALL ABOUT LOVE
I like that he has a vermont pin on
helpin' out the vets at the end too...very noble
im in recovery, heroin, a fifteen year addict. Im sorry but your comment is pretty stupid........im not going to list all the great music as a result of heroin but i am going to stress the fact that drugs will lead to diminished capacity. Sure great music and literature have been created on heroin but the bad faaaaaar outweighs the good.
how could anyone possibly dislike this?
❤️ as a mother whose daughter is in recovery, 8 months sober now. Thank you for sharing your experience
Yeah Trey! Here's to your health and service to others, we hope you're around for a long time and we love you like a brother ♥
i love u trey thank u for sharing
I'm curious if he has a higher power
Get with your local court circuit and probation offices my man...Im sure they could point you in the right direction!
Thank god this man got sober. We could have lost him like so many other legendary musicians
"The sunlight of the spirit" warms us all because of you Trey! To think how far he has come. For having the courage to re-light the beacon that drew us all in. For being humble, kind, genuine, wise, smart, humane, thoughtful, and full of love. We are so blessed to have this man in our lives. As I sit here, I revel at my 21 years of Phish. What it has given me. The friends I have made. The bruises on my knees during summer tour, the blisters on feet during fall. Thank you Trey... thank you!
Good story
But truly amazing having people in are community's that keep helping and people who keep forgiving
Way to go Trey! The heart this man has is huge and full of love, not only does it come through in his music but in moments like these. "He's an inspiration to us all." Oysterhead
What an amazing man.... Trey we love you, and are SO PROUD of you. Keep it up! Good job Sue, you saved our boy... and for this, we love you too.
We love you, Trey!
I want to be a drug counselor & help other addicts such as myself.I've been clean from coke for 16 years & still cant shit right in my life as far as work goes.I'm 46 & do not want to succumb to the streets. The web has too much info & none of it seems concrete.Does anyone know where to start as far as beginning the procedure to become a licensed counselor? Your info would be greatly appreciated.
Trey really seems like he is on the right track. This is a great thing.
I'm watching it all go by,
I can see, I can see,
A life beyond the dream
so glad Trey got clean!!!! Huge gift to music!!!
Trey was visited by a positive energy he couldn't see or feel tangibly that night he was arrested- it assisted him with something he couldn't do himself, which is getting help for years of drug and alcohol abuse. Many of these rock stars, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Joe Walsh, Elton John, etc.... ones who had every drug imaginable at their fingertips and at any time, are now sober- and they say it's the best thing that ever happened to them. Maybe they know something others don't about true addiction.
Long live Trey Anastasio.
I love you Trey!!
Thank you Trey. That was eye to eye. And I must say bravo to the veterans angle.
Trey is a humble human being with a great gift to offer all of us, music and inspiration. Looking forward to seeing Trey this weekend.
thank you sharing your story Trey!!
This is Phreedom
The difference actual rehabilitation can make versus punishment and putting people in cages. Way to go!
TREY YOU ARE THE MAN
It's great Trey is talking at these gatherings to let those working in Drug Court know they make a difference. I challenge Trey to take it one step further...to spread the word to his fans about staying sober. With Phish back on tour, so are, sadly, fans who use and abuse alchohol and drugs. Thank you to all who serve our greater community to help people overcome these immense challenges and to become healthier people.
It's funny how he thinks he has to have the mic right up on his mouth---like a rock singer.
Thanks Trey.
I have been to at least 10 Phish tour gatherings! and I am totally flabbergasted Anastasio has turned out like this and I have to say I am impressed and I love him for everything he was and is and will be and I will also say I'm Amazed!! Really big? How the Universe could let or have or make or whatever universe is doing and how it does it have Anastasio come out on Front Street and tell his story that sadly is the same story we're all going through one day giving good service next day going and picking up some more dope!!? Sad thing is we keep on trying but somehow the attraction is strong, and it really isn't easy, and so I say this is must be one of my service days I guess, smoking medical marijuana and trying to stay off the hard stuff!? So Let's all see how long it goes, and we'll go from there!? Phish & TGD & FURTHER TOUR, thanks I really appreciate everything, and I do mean everything & ALL TH' beautiful music, and I ain't going to say I hated the trails....... I mean Hai GH Ted.dot dot dot...lol 2 much FUN I WILL NEVER REGRET!!! GL w/ everything thanks again
15 days!!! I'm so grateful for your inspiration.
I went through drug court. Sure would've been cool to meet Trey there. I wonder what he was using. The only thing I would criticize about drug court is the 12 step approach. As an ardent atheist I have a hard time with the religious aspect. Addicts should have access to real counseling.
Bless you Trey. Seems like a kind man who got lost along the way and then used the tools available to him to get himself back.
Wow.Im still thinking about this. For someone who has provided me with so many wild and crazy nights. From the age of 17 when I first saw Phish, to the age of 38, when I will see them tomorrow in S.F. This means a lot to me. I thank you, once again Trey, but this time for a much different reason. Showing your humanity, humility, your appreciation for life, family and Friends. You are an inspiration, and the way you impact people has just reached a new level of positivity. Thank you.
Poor Sue...but it's good to see Big Red healthy and happy!
awesome!!!!
I may not know the hell of addiction, but it moves me to hear someone I've respected for decades speaking so humbly regarding such a horrifying illness.
Good on you Trey for getting away from drugs and booze.
It's a multi-faceted issue that affects so many - my Dad was a raging alcoholic until he got sober with the help of AA, and he was sober for 20 years until he passed at the age of 76.
I'm not a fan of Pat R., but check out the 700 Club clip of Kerry Livgren and Dave Hope from the band Kansas - Dave said he did 40K of cocaine in a year. Yuk.
