RIDING A NEW HORSE | RIDE WITH ME VLOG

  • Hi friends! 😍 Come along to my horse riding lesson! This video features a brand new horse to my channel! In this riding lesson, I struggle with my canter seat. Although I'm managing to keep my stirrups now while cantering, I've completely forgotten about my canter seat! This lesson was a huge reminder on what I need to work on to improve my riding.
All the action is captured on my trusty GoPro, so you can feel like you're right in the saddle with me. So grab your helmet, saddle up, and let's hit the arena together!

Clara, as hard as it is, please try to not be so hard on yourself! there are some horses that just challenge you like this. I've sat on horses where I feel like a complete beginner just because of the way they go. You're not regressing - riding is one of those sports where you make progress on one thing and then another issue arises. A canter can be smooth and still be difficult to sit! It could be a short or long stride or just the shape of their body! You will be okay

Thank you so much for your kind words ❤️ it was a really challenging ride mentally but it’s taught me so much and is going to make a stronger both physically and mentally !

I think EVERY rider has days where you either feel like you're one lesson away from Olympics level or that you're worse than a brand new beginner! 😂 With horses everything is SO variable- your mood and energy, the weather, the arena, the horse (and everything that includes like smoothness, stride, energy level etc) all make every single lesson a total lottery I think. I find ponies can be a lot choppier to sit than horses, and I imagine plenty of adult riders would too. I know I've personally had plenty of knocks in confidence and am currently going through a phase of finding cantering a bit difficult and I've been taking lessons for YEARS! Just keep showing up and making the most of your lessons, have fun and know that your current challenge will pass ☺ As the saying goes- "No hour spent in the saddle is ever wasted"!

As all the other commenters have said, don’t worry about one tough ride! I’ve been riding near 20 years now, and just the other day I nearly fell off just doing a trot circle lol 😅 So glad you were able to self reflect and realize you’re not a terrible rider!

Maple seems like a very nice pony, I rode a horse for the first time last week, (I’ve only ridden ponies up to this point) and his name was Scooby, quite a good gelding, just a bit lazy, I had my first jump on him last week actually! We tried to get a canter in but he just wouldn’t canter this week, I know his canter is bouncy from the times I’ve seen him canter with the others, but I need to focus on just getting faster when asking for trot, because my trot ends up slow and sloppy and I’m just bouncing all over the place and getting frustrated with my posting position, but I think I have good balance, despite never getting bucked off, or a horse trying to get me off, I have good balance, at least that’s what my instructor says.

Don’t worry Clara , I’ve been riding for 9 years and only learned 5 years ago {I was young before} it took me a year to master it and there are lots of aspects with different horses I’m sensitive about my riding and still get upset when people call me a beginner but tbh it’s a good thing it’s like a reminder you alwasy have to be working on something you can’t be good at every riding aspect. I’ve always been small {5’4} so I find it hard to ride taller horses so I’m more experienced with ponies whiles your the opposite I can say it takes time but you will get there and your doing a,axing love you videos can’t wait to see more!

Love this video! It’s so nice hearing someone address their insecurities and feelings about their ride! It makes me feel so much better about my struggles with riding and my insecurities. It always effected me during group lessons because I would get insecure, I ended up much preferring privates because of it. Groups can be so fun though when you don’t let your insecurities get the best of you. I found a great group at some point, there was never any judging and it was great-spirited.
I loved this video and loved your instructor! She reminded me of the ones I had 🤍 I miss riding, but unfortunately don’t have a facility to ride at currently.
I just relate to everything you’re saying so much 🥲

Awww I hope you get an opportunity to ride again soon 🤗 🥰

Ok so a lot of people have already commented with some helpful tips. I definitely loved what you said from 23:30 on (as well as your feelings throughout your video)!
Only thing I can think of right now that’ll help, besides what others have said, is “swing”!!! At my equestrian college in WV I just remember a lot of “swing the hip”!! … (w/ sitting trot and canter) and the way that my instructors showed an example while they said it, well I can’t do that but think “swing, swing, swing your hip”! Now with a slow horse you can push that swing more then with one of your faster horses you would slow your hip flexors down “. -Mine are killing me right now as I get back into jumping again at age 39 ahhh! I mean 29 …lol jk whatever! Haha (just wanna put a smile on your face as you do with all of us that watch your videos! Young and old-er! ☺️)
You are going to be amazing, if you stick with this, which I have a feeling you will (and will be excited to continue to watch) and you will find the in between or sweet spot you need for different horses/ponies!
Can’t wait to see your next one! I wish you were closer. You’d be a super big idol for my 10 yo daughter!

    • @whinnie216
      @whinnie216 ปีที่แล้ว

I was just thinking the better word for the canter (for me) was “swing” as the sitting trot was “tip” like tip, tip, tip your hip.
Just thought I’d add that bc I feels different, again for me, was to tip hip to sitting trot and swing hip for canter
