I agree, sometimes tests (not only in English) don't reflect the reality and what people already can do. Acheiving HIgher Brain/Thinking Function, as well as Developing Creativity, and Exercising Alternative thinking ARE deeply innate and seldom recognized BENEFITS of learning and practicing a foreign language.

I am slowly improving my Mandarin to do my part to understand the Chinese in their native tongue. Also, that woman in the hat and glasses honestly speaks more clear, accurate English than many Canadians born here, hah. Yes, the HSK system isn't perfect, I'd prefer a larger emphasis on oral language only for HSK3 onward (old HSK system).

How do they view the increased level of foreign workers in China, some who may even speak Mandarin? The fact that more Western citizens are learning Mandarin and more Chinese are speaking English has to be a positive for improved relations.
