    this video is sweet...it saved me $250!!!!..it took me about 3hrs. and never worked on a vehicle before. note: i didnt use any special tools-to loosen the tensioner a 3/8 inch socket works perfect- to loosen the fan nut i used a 1 7/16 inch open end wrench and a big tire iron to hold the pulley so it cant move..with 2 guys it wasnt very hard to loosen

      yeah, they design these things to be used with 'special' tools so shade tree mechanics can't work on them, so they have to buy that stupid tools or figure it out on their own. hopefully there will be 'right to repair' laws that makes this abhorrent practice illegal.

    Make sure you guys use your OBDII scan toll and read the WCT Water coolant Temp to get the reading so you know what the real temp is when your temp meter shows 210

    1) i need a fan clutch wrench to remove the fan, correct?

    Hello, great video. Thanks. I just changed my water pump using it. I had one snafu. I snapped one of the bolts (mixed up 35 foot/pounds with 35 inch/pounds) I didn't have the tools to attempt to remove it (snapped below face surface) and I had to get to work, so I put everything back together to see what would happen. I couldn't find any leaks. With the heat on the temp is around 160 degrees. With the heat off the Temp is below 210 degrees. Withe the A/C on the temp was barely above the 210 degrees mark. The ambient temperature was 95 degrees, not sure if that matters or not. The only thing I can see as out of the ordinary is my top hose doesn't have the same tightness from pressure as it normally has.
    I know I need to get that broke bolt out as soon as possible, but do you have any recommendations on it's usage till then?

    Thank for the Video, But For the first time Do it your self person you were not very clear on removal of the Shroud. The Shroud has to be pushed toward the rear of the car and the Transmission lines are in the way most of the time, The Top hose connection on the Radiator is in the way of taking the Shroud out, you just cannot pull it up.
    I see the you left that part out. Next you do not have to remove the fan blade from the Clutch. Just loosen the bolts so that there is about 1 1/2 treads still in the hub.
    This keeps the unit together and much easier to handle

    ***** Couple quick questions. We just replaced our 2002 Trailblazer's water pump, but now the temp is reading 210. We bled the system for a good 10 minutes (in fact we did this a few times), but it still remains high. No leaks, and the pressure at the cap is good. Overflow was filled to capacity, as was the radiator. We are thinking it is now a faulty thermostat, but is there something else we should check?
    Also there is a cable just below the oil fill (kinda under the black cover). The connector head broke when the belt was removed (you can see it at 0:39 in your video by your hand). We do not know it's name so we can replace it. Might you have an idea what it is called? Thanks.

    • @kjemradio
      @kjemradio 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The temp it was running at was about 160 when we purchased the Trailblazer earlier this year. The pump gasket is what failed, and we are sure this was OEM considering it has over 200K miles on it.
      As for the coolant, we didn't by the pre mixed type. We got the standard concentrate and added our own water. So it might be possible that too much of the concentrate was added, though it is hard to tell.
      The male portion of the sensor connector (at the wires) itself broke off and part of it is still stuck inside the female portion. We know we will have to replace it due to that.

      have been smelling coolant for months now yesterday my fan belt started squeaking excessively this morning I started it up and I heard a rattle looked under the hood and the engine fan was rocking bearings were gone but it still wasn't pouring coolant. I got a water pump with A2 year warranty at Advance 4 $39 loan the fan removing tools for a refundable $70 , wasn't very hard took me a total of 1 hour and 45 minutes having never done it on this vehicle before

    Need to emphasize that the torque is INCH-POUNDS, not FOOT-POUNDS, to help DIY'ers not snap bolts in the engine block. Maybe you can re-edit to make this a major flag to less experienced mechanics. DAMHIKT

    dude it would help if you would describe how to take the fan clutch off instead of just saying you have to remove the fan clutch and not go into some detail on how to do that. your video doesn't accurately show it and it is pretty frustrating. if you want to make a video do it thorough. wtf

      I'm at a stand still with my wife's 2002 Trailblazer. Can't get the fan clutch lose. All the local car parts stores claim they got the tools but it's out being rented or they don't have it. These newer cars are designed so you gotta take them to a mechanic.
