I have had my T60 Argons for a couple of months now, and I love them. I have owned all of the versions the Argon, and I have to say that the T60 Argon is the definitive Argon. I wasn't a big fan of the MK3 Argon, so I ended up selling them after I got the MK2 Argons. My set had too much mid bass for my taste. On the other hand, I really have a hard time deciding if I like the MK2 Argon or the T60 Argon more. Both are great, but both have their strengths. The original Argon is clearer and cleaner, but the T60 Argon is wider and more fun. I love both, and I will never part with either. I would recommend both over the MK3 Argon. In addition, get them balanced if at all possible. I have ran all of them balanced, and it gives them just that little bit extra.
I found mk3 argon to be dark like zeos describes but had a bit of a treble peak that was irratating for me. How does the treble compare between the two?
@@zachjaybseazer94 The Argon MK3's can sound very different depending on what pads you are using. With the ZMF suede pads on the T60's, there is more treble then the MK3 with either the ZMF protein or lambskin pads. With that being said, I'm not very treble sensitive. You might want to consider a different set of pads if you want to for the T60.
First off, thank you Z for reviewing these. I ordered a pair of T50rp Mark III's about four and a half months ago and I'm still waiting to receive them. I'm excited to get them and after this review I'll probably be ordering a pair of T60rp's as well. You are starting to have a very negative impact on my wallet Z.
Z, these cans came out a year ago! Also, I've had these for almost a year. Initially I had the t50 argon's, and I sent them back and paid the upcharge to the t60rp argon, and it was soo much better. Less bloaty, more detail...way more comfortable because the changed recommended pads. Awesome headphone
I love my mk3 (recently got a second hand pair) but I decided to bite the bullet and order some T60 argons too. I guess I won't know until the T60s arrive, but I'll probably still keep the mk3s, despite growing to enjoy brighter headphones over this past year I'm still a basshead, and unless the T60s can scratch that same itch, the mk3 is here to stay.
Got them and they are amazing, pleasure to wear them with suede pads, sound is fantastic for closed cans. Those headphones are my end game in closed back department 💎
Love these best headphones I have overall I've listened to the Zeus, Sundara, Aeon Closed from Drop, 58x Jubilee, X2HR, and 4XX over time. Sundara is great also if you have very small ears and a normal sized head. The wait time for me was like 4 months so just be aware of that but they are 1000% worth the wait. As far as power goes they run well off of a BTR5 I'm not recommending you buy them expecting perfection off of the BTR but it's definitely worth seeing how well they run off it. Just buy Argons there are plenty of good options if you're willing to spend more I'm sure but these are fucking awesome. I've owned them well over 6 months not sure exactly how long.

I'm pretty much happy with my stock T60RP:s with ZMF Oval Suede earpads (more comfortable, retains stock sound and adds more life to lower end). Also finally getting my audio cable to T60RP from Hart Audio Cables for last 5 months waiting in next week.
Back in April I received my mk3 Argon and even though I love them, I found that the dark sound signature was just not quite engaging and energetic enough for my tastes. So after doing a ton of research I decided to use my high school grad trip money on a Verite closed. I’m currently on week 15 of the wait but I’m still just as excited to receive them as I was in May. Thank you for the awesome recommendations!
Hey all I have the Koss kph 40, and the Fiio Jt1. I listen to most genres of rock, blues, southern rock, and jazz primarily. I can only buy one, and I’m a close back guy. I would love recommendations between Z’s new ERIS vs the Modhouse T60 argon. Thanks.
I had both the MKIII Argons (with the sheepskin ZMF pads) and T60 Argons and liked them both, maybe preferred the T60RP Argons a little more. Ultimately though I sold them both since I had to pare back my headphone collection and it came down to me preferring my custom closed-back modded HD58X (custom Zebrawood cups from headphile, sealed with blu tack, and with Yaxi HD650 Alcantara pads) over them. Slightly darker than the MKIII Argons but with more low end presence and cleaner sound with better detail. Absolutely awesome for gaming just like the stock openback HD58X but with a little more depth and a warmer, fuller sound. And much better on a tube amp setup than the Fostex planars. If you run Argon's on a nice solid state amp setup they do well though... Ryan definitely should charge more than he does for them.
He told me this morning that Fostex may have issues with supply until November. So its basically gonna be people who can send their T60's in that will have the ability to do this mod. I imagine this video will not help their supply issues.
I was thinking of getting a pair. Just bought one pair after watching this (suede pads, deerskin strap, periapt cable). He is sold out on T50s. I can entertain myself with my Panda's (probably arriving next week) until these arrive. Also, my Aeon Flows 2 Closed are still burning in. I can wait.
I have the Mk IIIs and the Aeons 2 Closed and the Panda. Good times. Not sure I need these, but they are beautiful and what Ryan does to a headphone is priceless and amazing and well worth the wait.

VaultF surprisingly good and quite versatile. I use the Aeons’ the most (for music), followed by the Argons (for music), but the Panda’s get used every day for a variety of things not just listening to music (Zoom calls, TH-cam, audiobooks and some music streaming)
i have had mine for over a year and love them. i think i may have been one of, if not Ryan's first sale of them. I stopped buying headphones. Also IfI zen runs them well. just about as good as my lyr 3.

I have the lcdx2021 which are really great but I want some headphones with great bass impact to complement them. Would this be a good pair to complement? I know for impact I should look at dynamic drivers but I really like planars ( there is something about them )😅
I changed my order a few months back but he hasn't replied to any of my emails yet, I think he goes off of order number and I'm hoping he checks the email when he gets to the specific order number because I requested the change a while ago lol. T50 driver has one of the worst THD i have ever seen which I remember once metal571 said get the hd6xx and lcd2 and skip this hobby . And I say get the 400i and lcd2f and run away dont look back
got my pair of T60 and I think they're too "harsh" for my liking, heard they're doing T60 Argons and sent mine in, got it back after 8 weeks or so with the same suede-ish pads as Zeos they're now SMOOOTH DEEEEP DARK and THICC

Check zmf and their site. The cowhide makes the sound more dark, and lowers treble. The t60 argons come balanced already, the mk3 has an upgrade option to go balanced.

@@williamcatalano1762 I only have the t60 argons, not the normal t60. The t60 argons seem to seal well and are very detailed. The normal non-argon t60 is semi-open and probably doesn't seal as well.
Well, I had my argon mk3 on order since may... I guess I'll email them to see if they can change my order. Lol never got any messages about my order since the order confirmation back in may.
By the way, for anyone that is thinking of ordering from modhouse right now, they are overwhelmed by the number of orders and lack of raw material. They increased thier lead time to 14 weeks, and announced that they have considered stopping orders till the end of the year.

I think the Mk3s stand out in the market better for what they are.. a great, fun pair of headphones for bass heavy music, movie, and gaming (for when you need closed back due to background noise). The T60 Argons sound like a great value for an "audiophile" can, but I'd be surprised if that's what you were trying to add to your collection with the Mk3?

Hello. Don't know if you got your question answered elsewhere, and still interested but... The $100 "conversion" is just that. You send the stock t60rp's to the guy at modhouse, and they do the conversion to the "Argons". By going for the $385 version, you are directly buying the t60rp headphone with the Argon conversion. No need to go through the hassle of sending your stock versions to modhouse. In other words, there is no difference on the headphones themselves, only the process in which you get them.
I Put ZMF cowhide on my tr60rp and it made it better for me darker less harsh and more low end. I did not realize stock cable was balanced can you use an adapter to get to 2.5 balanced and if so can someone recommend a cable and/or adapter?
Is it? you know that 3,5 balanced connector is only at headphone side at source side is usual 3,5. Why do you think Fostex is selling separately balanced cable...

Do you can recommand a gut DAC for the Fostex T60RP? I use it atm at my GoXLR but want DAC for only music. I don´t need an AMP it has only 50 Ohm right?
You'll definitely want some sort of amp. Argons may only be 50 ohms but they're very low sensitivity planar drivers, so they need a lot of power. Impedence isn't everything, K712 pros are about 60 ohms but they need about as much power as 250 ohm beyerdynamic drivers.
I'm with you on Cookies and Cream but certainly Strawberry is not "crap". Might I suggest you try the brands Umpqua or Tillamook. Breyers Dryers and H-D are garbage.

Anyone have any suggested setttings for EQing the treble spikes? Sibilance? I've been messing with a peak filter at -5 DB, Quality 3, 6500 Frequency.

@@williamcatalano1762 I only have the t60 argons, not the normal t60. The t60 argons seem to seal well and are very detailed. The normal non-argon t60 is semi-open and probably doesn't seal as well.

Well, I had my argon mk3 on order since may... I guess I'll email them to see if they can change my order. Lol never got any messages about my order since the order confirmation back in may.
By the way, for anyone that is thinking of ordering from modhouse right now, they are overwhelmed by the number of orders and lack of raw material. They increased thier lead time to 14 weeks, and announced that they have considered stopping orders till the end of the year.
@@Elc22 Why change? I think the Mk3s stand out in the market better for what they are.. a great, fun pair of headphones for bass heavy music, movie, and gaming (for when you need closed back due to background noise).
The T60 Argons sound like a great value for an "audiophile" can, but I'd be surprised if that's what you were trying to add to your collection with the Mk3?

What's the difference between the $100 ("converted") and the $385 version that's on the modhouse store?
Hello. Don't know if you got your question answered elsewhere, and still interested but...
The $100 "conversion" is just that. You send the stock t60rp's to the guy at modhouse, and they do the conversion to the "Argons".
By going for the $385 version, you are directly buying the t60rp headphone with the Argon conversion. No need to go through the hassle of sending your stock versions to modhouse.
In other words, there is no difference on the headphones themselves, only the process in which you get them.
I Put ZMF cowhide on my tr60rp and it made it better for me darker less harsh and more low end. I did not realize stock cable was balanced can you use an adapter to get to 2.5 balanced and if so can someone recommend a cable and/or adapter?

Very good, I play cello and strings sound almost lifelike, the huge soundstage helps too

Do you can recommand a gut DAC for the Fostex T60RP? I use it atm at my GoXLR but want DAC for only music. I don´t need an AMP it has only 50 Ohm right?
You'll definitely want some sort of amp. Argons may only be 50 ohms but they're very low sensitivity planar drivers, so they need a lot of power. Impedence isn't everything, K712 pros are about 60 ohms but they need about as much power as 250 ohm beyerdynamic drivers.

I'm with you on Cookies and Cream but certainly Strawberry is not "crap". Might I suggest you try the brands Umpqua or Tillamook. Breyers Dryers and H-D are garbage.
