😎 TechSmith need to hire you. Your stuff is excellent, and I don't find this creativity in any Camtasia how-to videos. Your channel should be much larger. I subscribed the first time I saw one of your videos. Great job, Cristi. Pleased to meet you.
Great video, Cristi! I really like your green screen background. If you have a video on setting up a green screen background and lighting like yours, that would be fantastic.
You can, but it might be a little fiddly when you try to replace a new footage in there. Because you need to remove greenscreen first, on the new footage and then insert it and position it, making sure it stays in place. You could, in theory, create it once, replace the video with a placeholder and add the resulting ensemble to your library, but see how it works when you bring it into a new project and replace the placeholder with your video. Even if your video is in the same position, you'll probably still need to make fine adjustments. Give it a go and see how it goes.
Great video. I'm a college professor who teaches a ton of courses online and am wanting to implement this effect into my new lectures to build immediacy with my students. How would one go about recording their screen capture (powerpoint slides) while also capturing the video of them to use the talking head. Can Camtasia capture both at one time?
Yes, Camtasia captures everything at once, but on separate tracks. Just make sure you select the different recording sources in the recorder before you start
Thanks. I don't think you can achieve that effect in that version, no masking facilities were present in that version. Masking/Matte was introduced in 2020.
Thank you! Even in Camtasia 2024, this particular effect is achieved the same way. Nothing has changed and no new effects have been added to make a difference for this particular use case
You don't need to 'download' the effect. It's not like Filmora. In Camtasia 2020 and 2021, the Track Matte effect is achieved by right-clicking the eye icon on each track. You might be interested in this video, for the talking head effect using the Track Matte, I show you how to do it here: th-cam.com/video/pSexUljveYE/w-d-xo.html
Thanks Cristi for the video. I record videos form my bedroom and I want to hide the room background, can I do this without using green chroma? Thanks in advance.
No, sorry. You cannot have the head sticking out without greenscreen, I'm afraid. That's because the head still must be separated from the background so you can see through.
I am using the classic method but the second method is an incredible idea of presenting oneself. The head out of the circle is an advancement over the classic method & is a more professional way.
this is a brilliant effect. I own Camtasia since ages but have somehow missed how it turned into a fully fledged video editing suite. Your clips show (and teach) me that. THANKS!
Great to hear! Thanks for your comment. I think Camtasia has quite a way to go before it becomes 'fully fledged', but it's moving in the right direction.
I don't think you can, Camtasia 2019 doesn't have any masking facility (Track Matte was introduced in Camtasia 2020, and Media Matte in 2021). Time for an upgrade perhaps?
Hmm, do you mean actually designing a logo? Because Camtasia isn’t really a graphic design program, designing a logo is better left for graphic design software such as Affinity Designer, Xara Designer or Adobe Illustrator and so on. Now, if you mean animating an existing logo and making it appear and animate in an interesting way, then yes, perhaps that is something that can be done in Camtasia. It varies from logo to logo though, not all logos are easy to animate or reveal in an interesting way.
Thank you Cristi. Do you think the Warp effect ist possible with Camtasia? Check the Warp effect in the first two seconds of this Video. th-cam.com/video/MirNaYW0cUg/w-d-xo.html Thank you!
He is using AfterEffects on that video if you go to 8:10 - adding the Warp effect to the composition. Camtasia doesn't do pixel-pushing effects like that, unless it's a transition that you may use. Transitions in Camtasia sometimes use GPU and create more 'organic' effects but they are generally quite limited. The closest I can get to that effect in Camtasia 2021, is a transition from the 3D group, called Ripple. Check it out.
In Camtasia, add a clip to your timeline, go to Transitions, use the dropdown at the top to switch to the 3D category and apply the Ripple transition to your clip. That's in Camtasia 2021.
First off, this is an outstanding explanation. Did it step by step with you and it came out flawlessly. Which is not me giving myself any credit, but rather, me giving the content creator (which is You, obviously), ALL the credit. That said, while this is perfect for recordings, how would you go about creating this effect for 'Livestreams'? Same principles in Photoshop/Canva? Some other way? Just curious if you've tried this within a live stream where maybe you create the same 'layers' and utilization of your greensceen in perhaps in OBS withing a 'Scene'? Thanks again for the fantastic content. New 'Sub' of your channel now as well.
Thanks a lot, Bill! Camtasia doesn't do anything for live streams. What you would do is use OBS or some live streaming software that has masking and you can do it.
Another great tutorial Cristi. I've been using Camtasia since version 1.x and I never knew this! Plus I have been recently wondering how to create the head in a circle effect and here you are, to the rescue! :-) Only problem is I can't get a good result from any green screen so far. It always looks green! Even when I adjust the settings. Hopefully you've got a video on this topic as well? :-)
Thank you! I find that whenever I have issues removing the green screen it's because of my lighting. If the lighting on the green screen is not even, and there's not enough contrast between myself and the background, Camtasia will have problems removing it perfectly. I tend to wear darker clothes, so that I'm quite far from the green screen color. Camtasia isn't the best at removing green screen, but you can help with good light. Also, I have a video on removing green screen with some tips here: th-cam.com/video/0qlh0ZVE_hw/w-d-xo.html and here, I have a video showing what you could do when your green screen is not evenly lit: th-cam.com/video/N9HKECI9ImA/w-d-xo.html - if you have Camtasia 2020+, you don't have to export the video before you apply the green screen again. Just group it with itself and apply again, until you get the right result. Give it a try.

This is great! Glad I stumbled across this video....subscribed and liked, thank you!
Thanks for the sub and like! Glad you found the video useful!
well done
Great video, Cristi! I really like your green screen background. If you have a video on setting up a green screen background and lighting like yours, that would be fantastic.
Thank you! Basically, I follow the process I describe in this video: th-cam.com/video/0qlh0ZVE_hw/w-d-xo.html
Great! 👍
Super! Cristi, is there any way we can create an asset with this talking head setup?
You can, but it might be a little fiddly when you try to replace a new footage in there. Because you need to remove greenscreen first, on the new footage and then insert it and position it, making sure it stays in place. You could, in theory, create it once, replace the video with a placeholder and add the resulting ensemble to your library, but see how it works when you bring it into a new project and replace the placeholder with your video. How do you create the effect of you over with no backround over the video like the one you used when making this video?
I use a green screen but the workflow is demonstrated in this tutorial: th-cam.com/video/KgRVCmELc-k/w-d-xo.html
Damn. That's brilliant. I was proud of some of my creative uses of groups in Camtasia but this takes the cake.....I want my bloody cake back!
haha! Funniest comment this week, and it's only Monday! Thanks! It's a simple idea but has great effect, doesn't it?
🤣Funniest comment I've probably come across on YT this week!
interesting, thanks!
Glad you liked it!
wow wow nice thk bro. are you best
Thanks!
How to create the talking head you have in the beginning of the video? Abstract? Thank you
I don’t understand your question. That is exactly what I show in this video

Nice Work Cristi... thanks for Sharing!
*QUESTION* : Can i achieve the 'Talking Head' Affect with Camtasia 9.0.4 (2017) ?
Thanks. I don't think you can achieve that effect in that version, no masking facilities were present in that version. Masking/Matte was introduced in 2020.
This is an excellent video but I was wondering with the new Camtasia out can you do an update
Thank you! Even in Camtasia 2024, this particular effect is achieved the same way. Nothing has changed and no new effects have been added to make a difference for this particular use case
I use this video all the time as a refresher when it has been awhile. thanks. :D
Happy to hear that, glad it helps!
I looked to download the visual effect "Track Matte" for Camtasia 2020 but could not find, pls help or send a link. Thanks
You don't need to 'download' the effect. It's not like Filmora. In Camtasia 2020 and 2021, the Track Matte effect is achieved by right-clicking the eye icon on each track. No, sorry. You cannot have the head sticking out without greenscreen, I'm afraid. That's because the head still must be separated from the background so you can see through.
if you will be tilting the background circle like elipse around your body then it will give better emerging experience. i tried this.
Yeah, I thought of that, it looks like I'm coming out of a hole in the ground :D Thanks.
I am using the classic method but the second method is an incredible idea of presenting oneself. The head out of the circle is an advancement over the classic method & is a more professional way.
Thank you, glad you find it useful.
Love it! Thanks from South Africa!
Super! Thanks for your feedback.
Cool as always, thanks
Thank you sir!

Thank you too!
What a great video!! Now my head is spinning for more places to use it. Thanks again Cristi
You're so welcome! Thank you, I hope you find great uses for it.
Thank you, great tip and fantastic explanation
You're very welcome! Thank you for watching!
Are you using black screen behind you?
No, a green screen
Very good.
Fantastic effect and very good looking
Many thanks, glad you found it interesting.
What a great video!! thanks
Glad you liked it!
So cool.
how to do that with Camtasia 2019 ?

Christi, i have a Question:
**the Effect you are using NOW (no circle or pop out, you simply appear in front of the back ground) is called 'What' ?**
I remove my green screen with the "Remove a color" visual effect. Is that what you mean?
@@Graphicious So in the video above, you are recording your image with a Greenscreen background?
Exactly. This effect in this video doesn't work if you can't remove your background, because there's no seethrough behind you.
Fantastic. I was not aware of such a great thing in camtasia.
Glad you liked it!
This is so cool! Thanks for sharing. 👏🏼
Thanks for watching!
Now that is really cool!
Thank you!
Thank you👍🏻😊
You're welcome 😊
Interesting, thank you!

How to creat logo in comtasia, pls make video about this
