    The castle, colosseum, haunted house... each time you make one of these epic projects, I think there's no way you can exceed what you've already done, and each time I'm blown away. This is just incredible - the base, the lighting and effects, the attention to detail including all the little flags blowing in the wind. Wow!

    Can I give you a pro model making tip when working in foam like this?
    The templates that you made, print out twice as many in a thin card stock. laser cut them, print and stick and free hand, whatever.
    When you have your material in cube form, attach the templates to either side of the cube, either double sided tape, pins or blue tac works fine, depending on the size of the template and depth of the cut.
    If it is an asymmetrical shape (like the curve of your bow) then put the big template on the bottom and the small on the top. Pull the piece up hard against the wire, the templates will prevent the cut from going deeper than it should if you pull it through in decent time.
    I always make my templates with a bit of extra, like a tab as a guide, on the beginning to guide the hot wire into the right place before it touches the foam, it gives you those few precious seconds to readjust or back out if something isn't aligned properly.
    I use this technique because a bit of templating up front with the lovely, perfectly smooth finish that you get from the hot wire means that there is no finishing work to be done. You get the cut that you want, where you want it with a perfect finish, first time, every time.
    Also, keep the bits that you cut off and reform the original "cube" double sided tape is your friend here, but pinning is sometimes a necessary evil. You now have a flat surface to stick more templates on that are cut from different angles. This is how I do compound curves like the bow of your boat.
    I think it's worth spending the extra 10 minutes getting the guide right to save you potentially hours of sanding, patching and adjusting to get an almost but not quite right end result. Myself, I'd rather get exactly what I want first try by spending a little bit more time on the template than doing the laborious work of trying to patch up "mistakes" and ending up with an inferior end result.

    • @TabletopWitchCRAFT
      @TabletopWitchCRAFT  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's certainly one way to do it. Basically it's like any pillar jig for the proxxon. I've used this method before. The thing with the hull is that it is being covered in foam "timbers" and my method worked for me in about 15 minutes it was done. If I was to carve the boards directly into the hull then I would have used your method. Great tip!

    • @gweedohatsis8404
      @gweedohatsis8404 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TabletopWitchCRAFT I'm a bit spoilt because I primarily use my laser cutter to make the templates. I used to go from my sketches to freehand templates like you are doing here but I found what I lost on the swings I made up on the roundabouts when it came to templating.
      One of my product lines is jigs so I guess I'm a bit biased.
      My philosophy is "computer good at French curve and straight line, monkey good at nature"
      my workflow is;
      - Sketch and see if I can get something workable. Symmetrical stuff is folded so you only need to draw half. Then, I digitize it regardless. I used to skip the digital step if I had something workable but I found it was holding my business model back.
      - Fusion/ solidworks/ illustrator/ whatever CAD program, slice it to create templates.
      - Laser cut then use the laser cut jigs straight as templates.
      - Weathering etc, freehand, rub with rocks for texture, wire brush for planks etc etc.
      Of course your end result is fantastic, I just thought I'd share my process. Subscribed and liked :)

    April 05, 2023 Wen.
    I've been enjoying your builds, content and awesome works for about a year now.
    Being a artist of "sleftthought cosplay, comic book characters, storytelling tattoo design and etc." I'll now say that this "Might Airship" is now my most favorite of your works!
    I don't have people in my area that I can connect with for those areas of building that I don't know, I've tried a person or two from other states but they used me while not getting any of my projects or money's back.
    I'll never give up and I build on, just hoping that I'll some day soon meet the real people that will truly help me so I too will become one of the greats like yourself...
    Keep up the awesome work!!!

    Fantastic work as always! I like how you've made it a family affairs, you got your daughter and mom helping out on it; thats the best. Its not just a craft but now its also a great memory. I struggle to get my kids to do crafting: a recent Gecko diorama for my 2nd grader was like pulling teeth at a few points, he just wasnt into it. The ship is very inspiring, great timing with CR airship shenanigans! I've made a couple small boats and this one gives me some really great ideas on doing one on this scale. One issue I foresee is the PCs inevitable tactic of ramming things, so maybe making a trireme style ram that could mount via the front weapons mount would be possible? I really like the drone-style fans, I think you could leave those on, or maybe they could be purchasable add-ons? like boosters or something? or add paddle/wings that you see on some sky ships for those spots. fantastic work, really gets my mind working on ways to create something like it. keep up the good work!

      @Tabletop WitchCRAFT now I'm hoping for a little series I can totally see like just small upgrade builds like a giant chain balista that can wrap around a dragon or a wyvern and pull them close or a dragon or wyvern hunter air ship just the possibility 😅sorry just really amazing I'm sure ur player are gonna do some pretty amazing things in ur campaign with that just make sure they don't shoot eachother out if a catapult

    My heart stopped when the ship tipped over. Absolutely beautiful build man. Now all you need are some enemies to blow off those cannons and a dragon that thinks it's cool to strap those cannons to it's. Never seen a cannon dragon before 🤔
