Aight so I've looked around for an answer and I'm super curious about this... What's with the big phrase of SCV visuals (not sure the general consensus about certain lines "owning" visuals here) from the plates during spanks? And they also play Cheezy Poofs? Like what's Pulse's relation to Vanguard??
+Sean Bowers I mean the double/triple beat they played was the same one that the Blue Stars played/plays, as well as the Stick Control one which closely resembles the one from SCV except the tag at the end. And in terms of cymbal visuals, Vanguard created a lot the "well known' visuals that many groups add in regardless of who 'owns' what. Overall reading up on the 2015 directors none of the have any relations with SCV, but most of them resign in Cali.
+Sean Bowers A lot of the SCV influence started around 2008-2009 when a lot of people form SCV marched Pulse, and I guess some of the instructors were the same, hence the common exercises and visuals.
+Sean Bowers Something I have learned in my 10 years of playing drums is that Stick Control is probably and arguable one of the best exercises on the planet. Though I'm a Coats guys (to the heart) I prefer 2000-2010 SCV exercises over every other exercise routine in DCI or WGI. Those exercises not only build hand chops they also build every other chop you can think when it comes to marching drums. This is my point of view though and info that i have gathered from others, such as John McFarland, Ryun Louie, Andrew Novak, and lots of others.
we should all be glad Pulse is keeping the old SCV spirit alive, ever since Rennick went to SCV...the line has basically turned into old Phantom Regiment (not saying that's a bad thing) but yeah
I love old scv exercises can't emphasis that any better ha-ha.
