Absolutely amazing speech by Dom at the service, as well as from his father and brother. Watched from Thailand, had to have a cry or two. Slava Ukraini. Slava David Knowles 🙏
What a fitting, sublime and radiant service for David Knowles. In his brief 32 years, he left us with an enduring inspiration. He lit a lamp on a path so that others, so emboldened, could follow.
RIP David. All I knew of him was from his voice. It brought a calm and firm sense of right and a hope for ultimate justice during the dark and terrible war he covered. I missed him when he was away on assignments or much needed breaks. I miss his voice now.
Lovely service for David this morning. Very moving and don't know how is family managed to pretty much keep it together during their speeches. RIP David.
I sit beside the fire and think of all that I have seen, of meadow-flowers and butterflies in summers that have been; Of yellow leaves and gossamer in autumns that there were, with morning mist and silver sun and wind upon my hair. For some Americans war in Ukraine is still very much on our minds… There’s also a shocking large segment that doesn’t understand why it’s important or what the cost of not supporting Ukraine would be. I already have my reasons for not wanting a second Trump term, but the heighten global security issuesregarding Israel and Taiwan just make it even more terrifying that he might be back in the oval office instead of a prison cell

A great episode with Gareth & Joe Barnes. Wonderful to hear a replay of parts of David's funeral, expertly edited. Nice how we returned more than once to the Bruckner. I have an even higher estimation now of Dom's address which I characterised at the time as magnificent. The silence at the end of the podcast continues. From Italy.

Shame there is another great person gone before his time when there are to many like Putin sill around, one thing for sure life is not fair and we should all do our best whilst still breathing ….
I am a staunch listener to your podcast. I am also an American. I do agree with your assessment that the Ukraine war "has become part of the furniture." Much like our Iraq and Afghanistan sagas, it is "just going on." I also do not think that perspective is necessarily wrong. We have significant domestic issues that need to be addressed. Combine that with the perception that there is also no indication that either the Russians or the Ukrainians are genuinely interested in ending the war. So, I think many Americans just assume it is going to go on until one side or the other has had enough. Since that is the way it is, it's time to put a bit of effort into getting our own house in order. Help where we can afford to, avoid escalation, but focus on our homefront.
Wisdom 3:1-9 1 But the souls of the righteous are in the hand of God, and no torment will ever touch them. 2 In the eyes of the foolish they seemed to have died, and their departure was thought to be an affliction, 3 and their going from us to be their destruction; but they are at peace. 4 For though in the sight of men they were punished, their hope is full of immortality. 5 Having been disciplined a little, they will receive great good, because God tested them and found them worthy of himself; 6 like gold in the furnace he tried them, and like a sacrificial burnt offering he accepted them. 7 In the time of their visitation they will shine forth, and will run like sparks through the stubble. 8 They will govern nations and rule over peoples, and the Lord will reign over them for ever. 9 Those who trust in him will understand truth, and the faithful will abide with him in love, because grace and mercy are upon his elect, and he watches over his holy ones.
The grief of the relatives that have lost loved ones to this war at every Ukrainian & Russian funeral, is no less intense and sorrowful than that of David Knowles. Prolonging this avoidable war is not a worthy cause.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said he is ready to do everything possible to restore relations between the EU and Russia, if the Ukrainian conflict ends during his government's tenure. "If the war ends during the mandate of this government, I will do everything possible to restore economic and standard relations with the Russian Federation, I will do my best for this. The European Union needs Russia, and of course the Russian Federation needs the EU," Fico said as quoted by the Teraz portal. The Slovak Prime Minister noted that any conflict "ends at the negotiating table." According to him, Bratislava will also take care to maintain "normal, friendly relations" with Kiev. Israel Iran conflict is bad news, as more sophisticated weapons were prioritized for Israel last time, Israel aid was cleared bipartisanly but Ukraine was hanging. Additionally, oil price surge will help Russia. & imagine Trump says he is Putin's friend in front of Zelensky. Trump will tell Ukraine to take the loss & be neutral. Ukraine was the buffer zone before. Russia does not keep to any such agreements, they are just a ploy. They shared a border with NATO founding member Norway since day one of the alliance. Did not bother them. They will be back for more. They have almost taken over Georgia by the back door (political interference) are trying the same creating unrest for future invasion of Moldova and elsewhere, like they did since 2014 in Ukraine.
