+Kovács Bálint 1080p videolapse take's up more memory and battery and is 2.1 megapixels, so if you take photo time-lapse you use less power and less memory, plus have the choice to go up to 14 megapixels and crop it later and get a much better end result
Nice Job Just Got the Camera and got a second one since it was so cheap looking forward to making some youtube videos' i just wish the audio was better, any cheap cameras like this you recommend with better audio for making youtube videos
+Review Outlaw Most compacts take really good video, and the phone you have probably does too. The trick is getting more light in the scene to reduce noise. Also remember that in video, sound is the most important thing, so investing in a cheap audio recorder like a Zoom H1 will make the most difference. You could use the H1 with the SJ4000 or any other video camera. Also check out my video on using your phone to record sound with your SJ4000: th-cam.com/video/cz0j1dOqslk/w-d-xo.html
Thanks for the help on getting the camera into time lapse! Unfortunately Goggle has retired Picasa. Not sure what to use? I have light room but I'm not sure if that will work?
thanks for the great info ,just got one and I'm very happy with it can you time the videos to record a certain time ?? using it in a motorcycle so do not want to be distracted much
Great video! I was wondering... What case is there that isn't the water proof one that could be used with a tripod that would alow audio capturing as well...Anyone know? Thanks.
I've just bought an SJ5000WIFI and the camera is supplied with an extra back for the waterproof case, one that has a slot in the side to allow audio whilst its in the case. You can therefore still attach case to tripod too
I found the 3 min recording segments very useful when riding my motorcycle but .for some reason when I want to play back the videos on my tv it doesn't play continuously ,stops playing on every segment and I have to press forward and then pay again to see the next one ............Am I doing something wrong?( I 'm able to see them in my pc if I play as a slide show)forgot to mention I was into photography many years ago with slr cameras and thanks to your videos I'm getting the "shutter bug" again lol
I found pretty damn good price on this site. It's for 72.99 USD www.banggood.com/SJcam-SJ4000-WiFi-Car-DVR-Camera-Sport-DV-Novatek-Waterproof-p-939976.html?p=B4200913385416201708 I hope this may help you th-cam.com/video/F48r2doLKcE/w-d-xo.html
Great. Just attempted a test time lapse but when I went to download Picasa it said that Google retired the software for Google photos. Do u know an alternate software I can edit in?
Hi/ have a ? Maybe you can help with this issue. When I switch camera to wifi it shows up on my iOS device however it won’t connect ‘ says cant do I/ doesn’t even get to the point of asking for a password/ I have uploaded the latest app/ thx DAvid
Rob, I just got this camera but I've noticed a yellow hue in videos when indoors and no matter what I change the white balance to the yellow stays. it looks as if I have yellow lights in the house.
+spookymufu The SJ4000 doesn't take great video under artificial light. You can adjust the white balance in post processing using something like Premiere Pro, but the SJ4000 definitely works best outside or with daylight balanced bulbs.
Rob, I can't tell you how wonderfully informative this is. I have a DBPower 5000 and I think the cameras are essentially the same, but the DBPower folks offer no support when I ask questions and their printed guide is incomplete. Tell me one thing: On my camera, I have "duration" and "time lapse," both. What's the difference between "sequence/duration" and "time lapse" settings and how do you make the "time lapse" setting work on the camera?
I'm pretty sure that duration refers to when the camera is recording looped video, say you're using it as a dash cam in your car. The duration is the amount of time the video records before it records over itself. Alternatively it could be the amount of time the camera records the timelapse for. TImelapse will be the gap, in seconds, between the camera taking still photos. Probably.
Hey rob, I'm looking to improve the audio quality of my sj4000, but the zoom h1 is $135 here in Canada which is outside my budget. Could you recommend a cheap recorder, that I could plug a lapel mic into?
+Mait Davis I haven't tried it myself, but if your phone is compatible, then maybe try plugging a mic straight in, but I know with Android this can be a bit hit and miss, but for IOS ROde make a nice Lav that I think comes with good sofware too. If all else fails, just record with the built in mic on your phone - if you're in a quiet environment they can be quite good.
Hello, what is the longest time lapse you have been able to capture? I followed your guide today with the intention of carry out an 8 hour time lapse but just returned to find the camera shut off after 1 hour exactly. Cam was connected to power the whole time and plenty of memory, nothing I can find in settings to suggest why it shut itself down.
I have bought a SJCAM 4000 wifi, i see it have videolapes mode, but i can not use that mode. When i try to take a video with that mode, SJCAM app display "There is no real time flow in this mode". How to fix it? Please help me, thanks!
how do I reverse the picture , I have to have the camera upside down to fit underneath my bike saddle hence the recording is upside down - is there a setting like the go pro to turn the picture recording the right way up ? thx
great informative video Rob. One word of warning though. i updated my sj4000 wifi firmware to version 1.2 i think it was. Anyway now the interface has changed and ive lost the antishake option. Sjcam have sent me the original firmware of 1.1 but its made no difference even tho the firmware says 1.1. Sjcam have offered no more help so ive no idea if ive lost image stabilisation on the camera. frnakly not worth upgrading. Unless anyone has any idea how i can get anti shake back or even if the anti shake is any good. But good video
Rob thanks for that. These cameras are so cheap now (£19.99 on eBay) that I'm suggesting to a client that they put one in their wood drying kiln to film a litre of water evaporating as the heat rises. If the camera is ruined it isn't the end of the world. Do you happen to know if the battery or SD card have the capacity to run for several hours (up to 12)?
I dont know if you bought the camera already, but be careful, really cheap ones are fake.. Real one costs about 60-80 dollars.. So I wouldn't recommend buying it
Rob love your vids! Love in London so can get the sj4000 off eBay. Is there anyway you could send me the link for the specific one because on eBay there are lots of them and it would be nice if you could send me the link!😃😃😃
The image would be quite noisy for night time shots, but I'd say give it a go. The battery should be good for about 2 hours worth of time lapse, depending on temperature.
+Rob Nunn Thanks i like the idea of it😊 but was hoping to leave it out time lapsing all night and with no external battery lol maybe it be worth a modification to the casing what say you thanks for the video you done I learn a lot from you guys 😊
The drive letter just depends on your computer. Pop the SD card into your card reader (or attach the camera via USB) and then go into the file explorer, look under "This PC" and see what extra drives or devices have appeared, and click on those.
+JinRei How about mp4? I'm planning to get SJ4000 especially this model www.dx.com/p/sj4000-1-5-tft-12-0-mp-2-3-cmos-1080p-full-hd-outdoor-sports-digital-video-camera-silver-black-288813?Utm_rid=38797239&Utm_source=affiliate
Does the menu allow you to select the "5 sec" option? If it does, select it, then go to the stills capture screen, and just press the shutter. Hopefully it'll start taking a photo every seconds.
Dude i think you're a little confused! Native resolution of the sensor is 1080 for videolapse. Native resolution for photos is 14mp. Youre doing a photolapse so you need max resolution of 14mp. Trust me, the diference in image quality is clear to see. Also shooting in a larger resolution than the 1080P of the final output video gives you the option to pan and zoom the timelapse within the 1080 window during editing for those using a little more advanced software. Either way, your info on cranking the res above 1080 wont give you any benefit is completely wrong. Example. A DSLR can shoot much higher res photos than it can shoot video, a factor with all cameras.
No sure about the maximum, because it'll depend on your card size, battery and resolution, and I'd always recommend doing short clips for ease of editing, but at least an hour.
So I have to import everything to my computer and edit the pictures altogether. That makes sense now. I though you just press the button and the device will do the rest for you. lol
alex w The sensor in the SJ4000 is a 2mp sensor - using the higher settings does not gain you any detail at all, they're just there to boost the specifications. Stick with 2mp and the quality is good, and the file sizes manageable.
I've had this camera for years now and I just recently shoot timelapse with it. it's awesome
Thanks for sharing that! I didn't know I could do that in Picasa!
anvil5gryffid No worries, enjoy!
Thank you so much for the timelapse tutorial. I love the video.
I think there is a simpeler way to shoot time lapse with sj4000. Just turn on the videolapse
how come when I do video lapse it doesnt even last a second? even after changing the settings?
+justmiiLeaH every setting on the video converts 1 minute into 30sec or whatever seconds you choose.
+Kovács Bálint 1080p videolapse take's up more memory and battery and is 2.1 megapixels, so if you take photo time-lapse you use less power and less memory, plus have the choice to go up to 14 megapixels and crop it later and get a much better end result

Holy crap! Vince Gill doing a review on an SJ4000 camera? Awesome!!
Thanks for the help on getting the camera into time lapse! Unfortunately Goggle has retired Picasa. Not sure what to use? I have light room but I'm not sure if that will work?
You can still download and use Picasa: picasa.google.co.uk/
Thanks! I'll give it a try. Jeff...
thanks for the great info ,just got one and I'm very happy with it
can you time the videos to record a certain time ??
using it in a motorcycle so do not want to be distracted much
+Dan Mungay Glad you found the video helpful. Unfortunately the camera will just keep on taking pictures until it runs out of battery or card space.
Thanks for the vid. Does the battery life last longer on timelapse mode?
+BL8DRUNN3R Quite a bit longer, but I haven't done any definitive tests.
Great video! I was wondering... What case is there that isn't the water proof one that could be used with a tripod that would alow audio capturing as well...Anyone know? Thanks.
Not sure about that I'm afraid.

RIP Picasa! What's the best free alternative? Will Lightroom make video from the photos?
Great video. And it looks awefully easy to do it in Picasa. However, Google killed Picasa in 2016. What alternative recommendation?
Привет!
Хорошо показал и объяснил в одном видео 👍
Great video. Can It de plug to a wall or a power supply for longer timelapses?
Jesús Corona yes I was wondering if you want to do sunset time lapse . maybe around 1 hour .
I found pretty damn good price on this site. It's for 72.99 USD

+DJB ONTV Thanks, and thanks for watching!
Great video! amazing walk through of all of the steps. just a quick question: are you sure there's ni difference between 2mp and 12mp filming?
There's no difference between 2mp and 12mp stills. Just shoot video at 1080p and you'll be golden.
Great. Just attempted a test time lapse but when I went to download Picasa it said that Google retired the software for Google photos. Do u know an alternate software I can edit in?

is for a 24hours timelapse good 32GB SDcard??
can you also do a long exposure timelapse at night in that camera?
It would be worth a go, but it's not that great in low light.
Como colocar a imagem na proporção 16:9 (tela cheia)?Na minha Sj4000 só consigo imagem na proporção 4:3.
sj cam4000 has video stabilizationn ?
Can you do this with the sj4000 that does not have wifi?? I just ordered a SJ4000 from amazon, but I got the one with wifi....
+Jennifer Gietzen I'm pretty sure you'll be able to.
+Rob Nunn thanks for the response rob! I'll let you know how I like it once o get it!
what was the other photo sites you said you use as well as picasa plz
For editing time lapses I also use Premiere Pro.
My firmware is from 8 april, is that the newest one?
Beautiful Sir ..
very useful, I use it for reference

Hi rob is SJ4000 wifi has an option for slow motion?
No, but the footage looks OK when slowed down by half.
What is the best micro sd card for this camera?
+Mama Knows Best I use a 32gb sandisc.
how do you get secure digital (f) as I have an acer laptop but doesn't have that
The drive letter just depends on your computer. Pop the SD card into your card reader (or attach the camera via USB) and then go into the file explorer, look under "This PC" and see what extra drives or devices have appeared, and click on those.
Does it always make the loud noise when taking the pictures
You can turn the shutter noise off.
+Rob Nunn thanks great videos trying to save up to buy one of these
can i change the .MOV file format? it's stressful to convert all the videos to mp4 using a video converter.
+JinRei I don't think so, but most video editors are ok with .mov.
+JinRei How about mp4? I'm planning to get SJ4000 especially this model www.dx.com/p/sj4000-1-5-tft-12-0-mp-2-3-cmos-1080p-full-hd-outdoor-sports-digital-video-camera-silver-black-288813?Utm_rid=38797239&Utm_source=affiliate
+JinRei doing a photo time lapse should put the files into .jpeg i believe, as for videos go they are stuck in .MOV
this is strange. My sj4000 does now have a 'timelaps' setting. and the capture mode has 'single' and next one is 5sec. any ideas?
The Manny 500 - BF4 I think that is the time lapse mode. Turn it on and see what happens.
I don't have that option. could be because of the firmware ?
Does the menu allow you to select the "5 sec" option? If it does, select it, then go to the stills capture screen, and just press the shutter. Hopefully it'll start taking a photo every seconds.
Rob Nunn thank you for your kind replies. what firmware do you have?
mine says version: g20141101v01 date: oct 31 2014 firm: sjcam
how long does the battery last at the least in every sequence, 3 sec, 5 sec and 10 sec... anybody? thanks...
I'll put that test on my to-do list.

does the SJ4000 have a remote control
+pscantlin With the SJ4000 WiFi you can connect the camera to your phone and control it from there.
How longer the video it takes?
No sure about the maximum, because it'll depend on your card size, battery and resolution, and I'd always recommend doing short clips for ease of editing, but at least an hour.
HOW DO I GET TO THE SETTINGS
Can I do it with sj5000 wifi thx
+juliejulieyao I haven't got one to test that function I'm afraid.
So I have to import everything to my computer and edit the pictures altogether. That makes sense now. I though you just press the button and the device will do the rest for you. lol
+VienBienTv You got it!
sj 4000 doesn't have HDR so go to WDR i think
why 2MP? why not 12? :/
alex w The sensor in the SJ4000 is a 2mp sensor - using the higher settings does not gain you any detail at all, they're just there to boost the specifications. Stick with 2mp and the quality is good, and the file sizes manageable.
This is a complete amazing waste of time: SJ4000 WIFI
photo quality on this camera is pretty bad. video is better.
zoom is horrid.
