When she was just starting out she and Finneas talked about “playing characters” which is what she is doing in this song, I believe… and that down beat is killer! IF you ever do a full album review… gotta do it for hit me hard and soft because she presented it as a full concept piece and didn’t release singles before the whole album.
Their artistry is astounding, especially the early stuff. The fact that they both have synesthesia plays into the themes and videos, too. Even before Billie was directing, she was heavily involved in the looks, feel, and sounds. ❤

No no. I think I speak for many Billie Eilish reaction watchers when I say that what we enjoy is watching people discover how good Billie is, and going on the journey with them. Can be chronological but doesn’t have to be. It’s certainly not about reacting to most recent things, more so about making sure her music gets the attention to all the detail it deserves, and to experience all of it (because it’s so varied and all so good). There’s little that delights me more than getting to watch someone experience Billie’s music for the first time.

Her and her brother Finneas were sitting just going back and forth, it's a character that literally is doing what the lyrics say,bellyache is the character feels bad for what they did. Billie came up with "sitting all alone mouth full of gum in the driveway" Finneas had "my friends aren't far in the back of my car are my friend's bodies" an Billie changed it to "lay their bodies" and Billie would have been around 15 she came to the team with ideas for the directors back then. I believe 'Xanny' was the first she souley directed
Okay so some answers: she was 15 in this music video. It was one of the songs that were part of her first EP “don’t smile at me”. The EP is also yellow and red, and she’s always involved in the visuals, they’re her ideas. The outfit she’s wearing is a rain suit that her grandmother made for her mother, and that she had found in their attic. Before Billie was “allowed” to direct her own videos at age 16 (I think Xanny may have been the first video she directed herself if I remember correctly), she was still doing things herself one Wa or another. She edited the bad guy video, she colour balanced this video, she choreographed and storyboarded the camera for when the party’s over, she’s the one who comes up with the visual concepts and asks her dad to build her cool large scale ladders, she does her own makeup and hair for tour etc etc. There’s always something, it’s clear to me she has always tried to be as involved as she was allowed to be.
I say “allowed to be” because she was a literal child, she says so herself, it was difficult to convince people to let her direct. But eventually she got to do it, and for a while she seemed to me to be very protective of her ability to be the director and doing things herself. Now I think she has proven herself enough that she has been able to allow other talented people to create videos again, for example for birds of a feather. I think that’s the first time since she started directing her own music videos at age 16 that she let someone else direct a music video again (now at age 22). I guess technically she didn’t really direct the animation for “my future” that was created during quarantine (not even just the pandemic. Quarantine. Remember when newscasters worked from home and their cats would walk across the screens? lol)
