Me while watching this movie with Emily: That's not a very sanitary way to transport semen...

Hi AdequateEmily, I recently found your channel. It's really good! You also helped me find other TH-camrs (e.g. Foreign Man in a Foreign Land - YAY!). I have a little feedback: During TH-cam essays, it is my experience that a little bit of music goes a long way.
When TH-camrs talk over a persistent soundtrack it is not as enjoyable (for me) as when TH-camrs use music only when they're *not* talking.
I think this is my experience because I'm on the spectrum. But I've done some research and found other people who agree with me for other reasons like "I speak English as a second language" or "I'm hard of hearing" or "When I watch the video on a faster setting the music becomes uncomfortably distorted (and I cannot enjoy the essay)" or "I just don't like the propagandistic nature (mood-making) aspect of the music" and "I'd rather just listen to this person talk without the music" or "I'm tired of the gimmick where the music stops for a moment to make a really important (usually sarcastic) point in the essay, then the music picks up again" among other comments. I noticed "We're in Hell" has changed their music format quite a bit (to reduce music WHILE talking) and of course Shaun doesn't use any music at all and I find that really great. Anyway - I hope this feedback helps. Obvs, you do you. And thanks again for your channel. You're doing great.

An incredible video! It manages to navigate and tie together all three topics of the title deftly and with nuance, which is a minor miracle considering how loaded all three topics are. It's also...really well scored? It feels weird to say 'this video essay is really well scored' but the music legit does help bolster the arguments. Molly Noise did great work.

I watched this movie about a year ago after you raved about it so much on twitter. I agree that it is a masterpiece.
Edit: you used space song as the outro song. Great video 10/10.

I don't know if "sickens" is the right word for it, but I do have a strong desire to play Vangelis at maximum volume while I toss road flares out the window, now.

Prison wages in Alabama are in the range of 12-45 cents an hour. With a bus fee taken out of your check.
The items that you can buy cost 2x-5x what it does on the outside

It's alarming how we've accepted sexual assault in prison, even celebrating it if we think the victim deserves it. While I do think some people should definitely be kept away from society in order to prevent further harm, killing or torturing them is not going to help anybody in the long run. We need to learn much more about mental disorders and start to do something about the immoral income inequality in our world, but for now we're content with labeling offenders as monsters and watching them suffer. At least we have cute video essayists to ease the pain of being a part of this grotesque society.

I'm for abolition of prison. Nobody should be caged. I'm pro death penalty for murder, though with some cases restitution can be made. Some people don't need to be with others, they should keep them selves apart.

The Black Hole as the unknowable set of possibilities beyond a fresh start is very intereting to me, especially considering some quirks in how black holes work. Like how you can never observe anything actually crossing the event horizon to the interior region. All things that experience crossing over seem to just end up hovering at the very edge forever. The only way to see what's in there is to go inside. It's by necessity a leap of faith.
I feel this suggests the most radical approach to prison abolition. We can ponder and pontificate all we want. The only way to get anywhere new is to actually go make it happen and see where we end up. And sure, we may wind up in a bad place. But we're in a plenty bad place already, so how much do we really have to lose.
Excellent video. Make me do a think.

Excellent video on a film i'd dismissed as 'oh no more prison torture, just in space'. If you like the humanity explored thru the lens of the vastness of space may I recommend Aniara? It's message is more nihilistic but it stuck with me. I also love Solaryis for the same reason: space is just a pretext to examine what it means to be human.
