#2. We mentioned that we had an old roof to the seller, and he said that it was not a problem. They would come out remove the panels and reinstall when the roof is replaced. Now, we were quoted about $250 a panel to remove them and reinstall on the new roof. (they have to to use new mounts/brackets,etc) So, for now, I have been piecemeal repairing the roof instead of replacing the whole roof. (on the good side, the asphalt tiles under the panels are somewhat protected from wind/weather) Also, was told that the panels are Maintenace free. Surprise, they need to be cleaned once a year and it's not the easiest to remove debris under panels due to squirrels.
Sorry to hear about your experience .. that is why I'm trying to educate homeowners... Unfortunately...I've seen the " When you get a new roof, we will remove & reinstall for free" ... but very few companies will actually follow through because it costs thousands ..and many hours labor...with a solar installation crew. That price is about right ... For squirrels ...I suggest getting a screen... critter guard makes one ... or you can rig one up yourself ..this is important because sometimses Squirrrels can chew wires... Thanks for watching!
@@solarbygreengreg luckily, in my case, I can see under the panels easily and have just 1 story house, so can use a long stick and ladder to poke at it. I do have to watch out for dangling wires underneath. (which I don't remember dangling as much in the past).. hmm. lol, interesting learning experience.
Wires dangling is normal. When removing solar panel for service etc there has to be wire long enough to remove and unplug solar panel or inverter cables … Just to be safe switch the disconnect off on side of home before going on roof with solar …solar high voltage. Just be carful not stick anything under solar that will get tangled with cables I suggest getting a screen guard if have squirrel problems you can buy critter guard or make your own
String inverter no cannot ... would have to go on roof and check solar panel with meter... Micro Inverters like Enphase and optimizer w/ string inverter like Solar EDge have individual panel monitoring and you can see individual solar panel production.

Quesrion. Will a string inverter know of a panel is under producing? Similar question for micro inverters.
