The U.S. State Department’s Foreign Service Institute ranks Arabic as one of the top 4 most difficult languages to learn for English speakers right up there with Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Plus every Arabic-speaking country has its own very different dialect of Arabic, making it even harder to learn. So recently I accepted the challenge and spent 16 hours learning a colloquial form of Gulf Arabic with a Sudanese Dubaian tutor, and then I hit the streets of New York City’s Arabic neighborhoods which contain Arabic speakers from all over the Middle East. This video is the first time I’ve ever tried speaking Arabic with people in real life, and it was an incredible experience exploring these Arabic markets and restaurants in NYC and chatting with locals. as an arab, this is really heartwarming to have someone foreign walk into the store and speak your native language, it honestly just reminds me that we’re all just humans and all that’s between us is languages and culture.. it makes me really happy

Thank you for the replies. With so many dialects, are there native speakers that have a hard time communicating sometimes? Or is it more of a situation that they're similar enough for Native Speakers to communicate just fine, but for non-Native Speakers they're different enough that they're like learning separate languages?

I think everyone forgets that all these people made an effort to learn English, a hard language just on its own. Having the talent and time to learn their language is the greatest gift you can give someone. You let them connect with their culture and core and share it. It is beautiful. I love these videos.

Honestly as a native English speaker, it’s a nightmare of a language to learn, truly a frankenlaguage. Learning a language is something that can bring us together as people.
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate your comment, but English is quite easy, it has no gender nonsense, no many different ways of writing the same word depending on what it is used for in the sentence, like, I'm no linguist, but I'm native in Portuguese, advanced in English, know a little bit of Spanish and German and I can tell you English is the easiest of these four, German is the hardest, no doubt

@@motaaaa Dude I speak four languages. Two natively and two on the rocks however English is a pain because it is a hodgepodge of what and why. My parents learned English in their 30's and yes it was VERY hard for them and they are smart, gregarious and motivated people. As my brother once quoted "The problem with defending the purity of the English language is that English is about as pure as a cribhouse whore. We don't just borrow words; on occasion, English has pursued other languages down alleyways to beat them unconscious and rifle their pockets for new vocabulary." --James D. Nicoll. Don't mar the effort by ascertaining your biased difficulty level. It's hard as hell to learn a new language for most people.Children however can learn almost whatever is thrown at them at an amazing rate. The point made here is plain, if someone had the courtesy to learn your language it is awesome that you learn theirs. Having the talent ,tenacity and pure intention to just communicate is beautiful regardless of language or supposed difficulty level. I think its beautiful and I know it might come easier to him but for most it can be hard.
I think the reason people love it when you learn their language is not because its easier to talk to them, but because you have personally taken it upon yourself to dissolve the barrier between cultures. I only wish there was a way to rid the world of language barriers without damaging cultural heritage.

@Crystal Vinz In Islam Muslims greet each other the way Abraham, Jesus, and Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Them) greeted people. They all said Peace Be With You. Which in Arabic is As-Salam-o-Alie-Kum. Muslims pray how Abraham, Jesus, and Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Them) prayed. By touching our heads to the floor, in submission to Allah. Muslims follow the teachings of Abraham, Jesus, and Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Them) because as the Bible and Qur'an state, Muslims do not eat pork, do drugs, or drink alcohol.
The only difference is as follows: Christians believe Christ to be a "begotten" son of God or God in a human form. Muslims believe that Jesus was one of the mightiest prophets of God. The difference being, that Jesus was not divine. Every miracle he performed was done by God (Allah), just like the miracles performed by Abraham, Noah, Moses, and Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Them). Therefore, Muslims do not believe in Jesus's divinity and claim that to be a breaking of the 1st commandment. That is also why Muslims do not believe in the Trinity, which was a concept first introduced over 350 years after Jesus's ascension into heaven, by the newly forming Roman Catholic sect of Christianity.
The Qur'an also only mentions 1 woman by name. That woman has an entire chapter devoted to her. Her name is Mary (mother of Jesus). She is considered in Islam to be the best of women. Therefore, the Muslim woman's Hijab (moderate dressing, covering the hair and breasts) is in-line with the clothing of mother Mary. That is also why all nuns in churches dress no different to Muslim woman. By covering their hair and breast.
Muslims also follow all 10 commandments given to prophet Moses.
In Islamic tradition, it is believed that since the time of Adam (Peace Be Upon Him), around 123,000 prophets came. Allah says in the Qur'an that we sent a messenger to every nation. But by name only 25 prophets are mentioned. The 25 that made the biggest impact. And according to Islam, the last prophet before the day of judgement was Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) who came about 600 years after Jesus (Peace Be Upon Him). According to the Qur'an all 123,000+ messengers came with the same message. Worship 1 God, and do not associate any partners with him.
That is the overall gist of the Qur'an-ic message. Peace and blessings be upon you.

Who but God is always sinless? So the sacrifice must be God's incarnation. EMMANUEL "God with us." Mohammed contradicted himself by saying it is wrong to attribute to God human limitations, while attributing to God the human limitation of not being able to have an Avatar extension of himself separate from himself, yet still him, similar to a clone.

It’s crazy how learning a language is one thing. But when you practice it, it starts to teach you things you didn’t foresee. Like humility, courage, self-deprecation and how to endear yourself to people. This guy’s so courageous and respectful.

Is gulf Arabic a more common Arabic you recommend to learn? I’d love to try it. Taught myself mandarin last year. I know English and Spanish fluently already
@@glossjunkies6026 Gulf Arabic is a very understandable dialect, so is Egyptian and any Levantine dialect. Good luck :)

As a native Arabic speaker , I am impressed by how fast you can grasp and learn any language. Scientifically speaking , people who speak more than one language can easily learn other languages, for their brains are highly actived . My Filipino dad who worked in KSA for more than half of his life is fluent in Arabic as well. It's amazes me. Unfortunately, he's not with us anymore. This video makes me miss him. RIP dad.

You missed my point - being able to get by with only 2 weeks of learning Arabic is what I found really good. So what if he mixes modern standard and various dialects? At least he's trying.

he has a special talent for picking up languages he even had his brain scanned and it showed higher than average activity in the audible languages processing centers of his brain. basically he's really good at decoding sounds and noticing all the intricacies in language but it might just take him some getting used to with new tongue movements.

One entire year of learning Spanish in a medical and I couldn’t survive a trip to Mexico or Cuba or whatever other Hispanic nations. Part of that is my fault for only learning it for the passing grade.

The real magic is how brave the dude is! He is clearly a beginner with this language but is just really friendly and outgoing with it and not afraid to make mistakes and just try stuff out. I found it hardest to not just... clam up and be shy/embarrassed about getting stuff wrong or sounding dumb and being made fun of.

The main thing he is good at is just diving in and talking. I studied Spanish, French and Japanese but was too shy to just TALK because I wanted it to be perfect. That actually held me back. He just dives in and makes mistakes and smiles and the people appreciate it. I can learn a lot from him.

I love whenever he learns a new language and there's still a lot he doesn't know, they'll correct him on his pronunciation or help him figure out a word or two in a very encouraging way 👍🏻 I'd be terrified to go out speaking a new language I learned and feared getting looks because I'm getting things wrong
I think what amazes me the most about you ziaomanyc, is how you can keep all those languages apart in your head and retain what you learn. I've watched your videos in so many different languages it's unreal. I tried learning Spanish as I have a lot of Hispanic patrons at my gym and I can retain some, but very, very little. I learn and then forget it. Great job on your abilities.

@Its me or whatever exactly. I think most people are happy to help you learn their language and are supportive and helpful. The last time I was in Greece I tried to say “see you next year”. I ended up saying see you this year. The person ended up laughing and saying happy birthday while shaking my hand goodbye. 🤣 but he gave me the proper phrase and even gave me an extra special greeting for goodbye ‘ kali zenekia’ which basically means I’m going but enjoy continuing your work. It’s peculiar to Greece. I wouldn’t have got that without engaging with the language, making mistakes, and finding someone supportive. Good for you in supporting your friend.

I found a trick to that... i used to stutter speaking a different language than my own.. For now it only works with English and if i 'd have an opportunity to refresh my Russian it could work as well : You have to take the time to learn how to 'glue' the words together. Words have endings and beginnings and you kinda ramble them all in one breath by gluing them. At first you have to do it slowly and give your brain a chance to bind the endings and beginnings.
It's as important as learning the words.
This is the truth.
Most people: "I studied intensely for a year and now I can speak the language at a low conversational level."
This guy: "I studied for sixteen hours for the same result."

I always say Love & Light/Peace & Light or Love, Light and Peace. As Love and Peace are 2 of the highest vibrational forms we can access in the 3D. Peace being highest. Which makes sense as to why it was a greeting/departing gesture made by Jesus.
That is one thing I noticed of all the different cultures and languages he learns Arabic speakers as wishing him peace. Instead of That is awesome its God is good or God wills it. It is telling,
Yeah that's amazing, and its considered a worship in islam and there are rewards for saying that. The Final Prophet Muhammad pbuh said “None of you will enter paradise until you believe and you will not believe until you love one another. Shall I not tell you about something which, if you do it, you will love one another? Spread salām (peace) amongst yourselves.”. Every action in Islam is beautiful and there lies a great wisdom behind it.
That’s the essence of Islam ❤️

Fluent, not exactly. He studys exclusively for interacting in store and in restaurants, greetings, farewells, and small slices of the specific cultural for small talk, and than he learns numbers so he can understand prices. He definitely isn't fluent, he's just really smart

I agree totally. Nothing makes a foreign language speaker smile more than you trying to say a few words in their language. I've got a Russian nurse who challenged me to learn 2 new words a day in Russian. She seems delighted that I've kept up with it. Sometimes she asks me where you learn this? I pick up the words from Arrow. I also know some Spanish, Japanese, Yiddish, and Italian. I would love to learn Hindi.

@@redakaafarani2289 Moi ma langue maternelle c'est le français. Pour ma carrière j'ai choisi le Génie Logiciel car ça me passionne. Par contre je me suis vite rendu compte que le français était un handicap à ce niveau (même les chercheurs français publient leurs travaux en Anglais 😄). C'est là que j'ai commencé à presque tout faire en Anglais jusqu'à en avoir une bonne maîtrise.
Quant à l'espagnol, c'était ma LV2 au lycée, après on ne s'est plus jamais quittés.😂
Cette année j'approfondis mon Espagnol et j'espère l'année prochaine me lancer dans le portugais s'il plaît à Dieu.

My husband speaks fluent Arabic and it always shocks people because he is a 6 ft tall “white” guy and works as a paramedic. It immediately makes people feel better and comforted.

I'm Sudanese and i never felt so proud in my life. I was bullied all throughout high school for being the only Sudanese kid in my classroom. I was constantly made fun of, and sometimes beaten just because of the color of my skin. Videos like these really make me feel better about myself

Like saying "bless you" when someone sneezes doesn't literally mean they want to bless you, it's just what you say in that situation. In a lot of east and southeast asian languages (Eg Thai, Chinese), you greet friends by asking if they've eaten yet. It's not because they're concerned about your diet, it's just how you greet people.
whats impressive isnt how fast you learn the language (dont get me wrong its freakin impressive but you got us used to it by now haha) but how natural you sound even after only beginning of learning it, in the accent the intonation and everything, its crazy

This is my dream. I went to high school in Egypt as an American, and wasted those 4 years embracing the language. 10 years later and this video finally pushed me over the edge to find a tutor today.

It is indeed a muslim thing to say "as salamu aleykum", as i for exampke , a half swiss half german muslim convert greet like this the brotheres and sisters of my faith despite the rest of our conversation being in english, french or german, depends from where they are.
It is even part of our prayer,
at the end we greet with "assalamu aleykum" the angels who are on our right and left side.
Of course we are happy for evryone even from other religions who greet like this 😍 and wish them the same: peace!

I am a language connoisseur, and I'm always amazed at how quickly this guy picks up a language and how easily he gets to "conversational comfortable". Well, not "easily" it takes work, but he's so conversational, and learns so fast, and his delivery is always fairly relaxed and natural, even when its a new language, that any "errors" he makes you almost don't even catch them, IF he even makes any errors, and hte people he speaks with certainly don't mind the occasional error, as it is a high compliment to learn a culture's language.
Lol, well I only speak two language, arabic and english, so I don’t know about the others. It’s pretty impressive he learned this much in a short amount of time and it’s comprehensible in these small talks where u already know the context, but believe me there were mistakes every two words or so. I doubt he could hold a meaningful conversation for more than a minute.
Mostly really awkward grammar and sentence structures, or should I say grammar-less structureless speech. It’s like how u pretend cavemen speaks in english by just throwing words and small 3 word sentence here and there. Plus awkward pronunciations (could be interpreted as just an accent if everything else was smooth), and awkward pauses/timing/emphasis.
He’s quite the fast learner FS, but this comes with a lot of mistakes, as it should, and they aren’t really ‘hard to spot’

it depends how you learn it. Watch a movie you know in German with German subtitles easy one like a Disney or Pixar movie.
You need to get used to listen to it and then try out to speak it. Get someone online to speak with you .

Of course! Here in Canada, I learned French in school for around 8 years. Could I understand or speak any French after graduating? I couldn't even order food or ask for basic directions... School is useless for learning languages.
