@stratovani I know he does! I went to a seminar at GC when he just hit the scene. Racer X had just one album out. Everyone was asking for him to play covers from RR to EVH and Yngwie, all these shredders of the day. After a half hour of this I finally spoke up and asked what he thought of Rush. He got real animated and broke into some serious Hemispheres riffs. It was very cool. I've never been a real fan of "shred" but Gilbert is the exception. He is far more musical then most in that vain.
@tasfa10 they are EX-29 Headphones. They do protect your hearing from the loud noise, but you can hear your band mates through them and adjust the aduio to your hearing :)
I can't believe I just saw this! Just rediscovered Paul Gilbert, and he's playing one of my favorite Rush songs like fucking crazy! I LOVE THIS! Fantastic improvisation at times. You're a true inspiration, Paul!
Paul Gilbert is an amazing guitarist. He was the guitarist for Racer X, Mr. Big, and has out several solo albums. He graduated from Musicians Institute and he USE to teacher there. I am not sure if he still teaches there or not though.
Ok. HERE IS WHAT IS CRAZIER than anything else in the comments. He doesn’t play anything close to anything like any other recorded Lifeson solo. But he’s so in that groove, mindset, feeel... that it’s totally just like something Alex could/would play. And that’s what’s so awesome.
I didn't know until now but my entire life I've been looking for someone with every guy vocals that can play scales with out the ass with all the soul of a computer.
When it was "recorded", Alex was much older than 17. BTW: Did you ever hear what Gilbert was cranking out at 17? How about Racer X when Paul was still much younger than Alex when this was "recorded"?
He should get a singer, move it up a fifth, or at least put a moderate amount of "cornbread" or stress in the vocs, and turn 'em up a bit, IMHO. like the instrumental work, except I'd prefer the snare wires on.
Okay, the instrumentation is wonderful, but he just does not have the vocal range to bring this off! Should have recruited a really good female vocalist for this one...
Paul Gilbert is an utterly amazing guitar player. Been a huge fan of his since the mid-80's.
Mr.Gilbert is incredible.Love how the drummer stuck closer to the Rutsey version on drum's.
I like how Paul's almost laughing that he's singing it an octave low hahaha
Great to hear and see Paul doing this underrated Rush classic

I keep going back to this video , he's such a natural .
I love how nobody clapped near the end. They could tell the song wasn't over yet. True music lovers.
first song in have ever learned 1979 all worlds a stage
Saw him onstage w/ Rush @ Shorline Ampitheater in 1990 on the Presto tour for Findin My Way. it was awsome!
Paul Gilbert you're fantastic !!!!! Genius !!!!!!!!

Paul is one of the better guitar players of all time and yet still one of the greatest teachers also
I can't believe I just saw this! Just rediscovered Paul Gilbert, and he's playing one of my favorite Rush songs like fucking crazy! I LOVE THIS! Fantastic improvisation at times. You're a true inspiration, Paul!
Killer solo. His improvisation never ceases to amaze me!
he's good, whoever he is. Great old Rush song.
addicted to that rush
Incredible cover!
Paul Rocks !!
Lovin the OLD Rush!!! Come on Paul, sing it up in the Geddy Lee octave! LOL
I watch this guy, look at my guitar playing and begin to feel like I'm just dead on my feet.

I hope I can play half this well some day. Damn you Paul.
I just wish I had 10% of his talent.....lol
I hear ya!
This was fantastic. Just found it today trying to find Rush versions. This might be better. Thank you!
Los covers de Paul son asombrosos
haha gotta love rush's old stuff
Paul Gilbert is covering RUSH AWESOME!
New bucket list item, jamming some Rush with Paul Gilbert. That would be the ultimate. At least there's a better chance of that than Alex and Geddy.
He's been on the scene for a pretty good while. 30 years or so.
Paul Gilbert is sooooooo cool :D
Never heard PG make a mistake! he's awesome
great Rush cover!
I think Paul Gilbert has some serious jones for Rush!
Mr. Big also opened for Rush on tour
The tone is really great.
I approve of this so 10x over.
Who said he can only play? HE's A GOD!
Sweet.
sounded great..

@tasfa10 You're welcome, mate. Grab a pair for yourself and protect your hearing :) rock on \m/
its insane to think this guy colud play every song ever
Still got it right
RUSH lives on even in the fingers of greats like Gilbert.....not that Alex Lifeson is too shabby mind ya!
Paul Gilbert tears up the solos, but remember Alex was only 17 when Rush recorded this song
Try 20 or 21 Alex was born in 53 & their first album came out in 74. A lot of that album was recorded in 73.
Rush started gigging in 69 and had this song written then.
When it was "recorded", Alex was much older than 17. BTW: Did you ever hear what Gilbert was cranking out at 17? How about Racer X when Paul was still much younger than Alex when this was "recorded"?
SWEET! And add a reverse Iceman to it, super sweer!
@AXELGRIZ not headphones, its hear protectors
He looks weird without his headphones xD awesome playing, Paul!
Paul Gilbert doesn't need a Floyd Rose to "ROCK THE JOINT" !
3:31 Wow, Herman Li on bass.
pretty sure Rush lives on ...in Rush, since they are on a tour right now.lol
Paul worked it Well!! "Old School" RUSH, I agree with Shawn D' "That's one Fugly guitar.
still
And how does Paul get such a mean sound out of single coils?
@MVF0RLYFE I think he looks a bit more like John Myung.
Paul sings one octave lower. Can't blame him, though :-)
@AXELGRIZ hm interesting. thanks
he is GOD
i just pooped

who is Paul Gilbert?
Probably because neil peart is so hard to copy
Funny how most male vocalist covering RUSH has to sing an octave lower.
OK
Okay, the instrumentation is wonderful, but he just does not have the vocal range to bring this off! Should have recruited a really good female vocalist for this one...
Ok, it's guitar clinic at a music store. Chill.
Thats one ugly guitar
Paul shouldn't sing.
2kosher
Dude you are the one that should up
