These ships just look beautiful. Classic lines, not too big and just right proportioned! Very nice Podcast, the information was really interesting to me.
I'm glad you enjoyed the podcast and found the information intriguing! It's wonderful to hear that you appreciate the timeless beauty and well-balanced proportions of these classic ships. Thank you for your kind words and for engaging with the content!
Hi Carsten. This was really an impressive podcast with many interesting pictures from the building process in Lübeck. These beautiful sisters were the main reason for my interest in - and passion for - ferries. My dad was an engineer at the shipyard in Aalborg, and in 1980, Tor Britannia visited the yard. This was when the cooperation with Sessan started and the Sessan-mermaid was added to her funnel. My dad established good relations with people from Sessan Tor Line, so he got the possibility to buy discounted tickets and, as a result of that, the summer holiday in 1980 was spent in England, and we sailed with TB on the way over and TS on the way back. I was only 7 years old back then, but I still remember how impressive Tor Britannia was - and the crossing took 24 hours 🙂 We got a full tour of the ship from the sauna down below up to the bridge, and had dinner with the captain (Kjell Palm), where my brother and I could go to the galley and choose which ice cream we wanted. I also remember the map (Think it was made by Tandberg) where you could see the actual position and speed. Position was marked with a flashing LED and was really outstanding back then. Everything about that ship was an adventure for a 7-year old boy, and ever since, those sisters have always been something special to me - not only memories, but also size, speed and design. Well, one should go on a trip with them soon again before it is too late, but they are indeed ships which you could hope would be around forever. 😉
Hi Søren, Thank you for taking the time to share your wonderful memories of these vessels. It sounds like you had an amazing experience aboard these beautiful ships, and I can definitely understand why they hold such a special place in your heart. It's great to hear that your dad's connections with Sessan Tor Line allowed you to enjoy discounted tickets and a summer holiday in England. And what an adventure it must have been for a 7-year-old boy to explore the ship, meet the captain, and choose his favorite ice cream! It's amazing how the small details, like the flashing LED on the map, can make such a lasting impression on us. I'm glad to hear that the podcast brought back some happy memories for you and reignited your passion for ferries. Who knows, maybe you'll have the opportunity to sail on one of these ships again someday soon. A few years ago, I went on voyages with my son on these ships, the video links of which I am attaching here: OTTA: th-cam.com/video/zYUWQ4htSUA/w-d-xo.html DREA: th-cam.com/video/YKHxFWPlpgk/w-d-xo.html Thanks again for sharing your story and happy travels! 😀
