Hi Dav! One thing that I like very much is that the players are much more in control of when to finish the game. That's a very strong "weapon" to use if your opponents are building strong dragons but they aren't finished yet...
I have both games and I prefer Coatl over Azul. More gameplay, more game depth, I like the art of the game more ... Azul's scoring system is very bad and the game too simple.
Thanks for the review Dan. I know a lot of people compared Coatl to the Next Move line of games, and being a big fan of REEF and BEEZ, I wanted to try Coatl. But I agree, from what I've seen, this game just doesn't stand out.
I actually like Coatl so much I sold both our Azuls. It's so much fun.

Looks interesting. Definitely a nice production value, and a nice set building type mechanic. On my list!

I've been considering this one for a while, but I guess I'll just stick with Reef, Azul and Century Golem.

All 3 Azul's , Sagrada, Reef, Axio, Mandala Stones to name a few recent ones.
Cheaper, nicer, better than azul. EZ buy.
