My biggest one, declutter and then, declutter again. Have a spot for everything and if you don't, you may have to get rid of some things. You just can't hang onto everything.

Decluttered a table lamp recently that never even had an outlet to plug in... bonus? Lower watt bulb to put in the bedroom.... andddd now I'm switching my loving room and bed room curtain to match the warmer lighting... it's a process that is for certain.

Completely agree about proportion sizes! I’ve realized so many expensive homes have large items, and barely any small clutter
1 thing I realized about long-stem flowers, I think that will last longer & that’s why they’re more expensive! To keep your flower water rom stinking and the stems from rotting, you should put just a few inches of water (don’t fully cover the stems, just the bottoms). Cut the stems every other day at an angle with sharp scissors so that they can keep sucking up water. Too much water and the stems rot, not changing the water daily and they smell terrible, not cutting the stems and they get sealed at the bottom and can’t suck up as much water. So longer stem= more times u can cut it shorter=more days of flowers!
My contractor thought my house was $2 million. It’s worth $550,000 but we used these videos to make our home seem really expensive. I love it!!

A fun fact about tulips is that they continue growing in the vase, so as long as they aren't open all the way they should last at least a week and get longer in that time

Great suggestions! Another idea for picture frames is to have them all one color (mine are all silver) even if the styles are different. It make the items look more like a collection.

I feel like I've always had to furnish my rental spaces out of necessity for storage and function on a low budget. My friend in Washington state has a $8 million house in the San Juan Islands. His house rivals the Fairmont Hotels any day. I think what makes this house compared to his San Diego mansion special is the Wow factor in the house. The house is on the water but the moment you step inside you see a huge rock fountain in the entry way. A wow factor could be anything a piece of art a big chandelier something that makes your house special.

great video michel! I would say learning some basic DIY and carpentry skills also can help you make things look more expensive. for example, adding a trim piece to a basic cabinet door or making basic floating shelves can be so helpful! I've also scored some cheap or free MCM furniture and restored it by just stripping it back to plain wood & doing a simple oil finish to make a really expensive looking result. DIY skills FTW!

Did you say you use Hibiclense? As in medical grade antiseptic soap? I didn’t know people used that other than for surgery
@Michel. You could post the extra Videos on days/weeks where you spend more time with Jordy....so you can focus on each other, instead of focusing on us. If you miss him so much you can visit him more often and spend more qualitiy time with him...or post extra videos over the holidays/bank holidays. Like that work will not stop you seeing each other more.

I am a maximalist and love color but still want my home to look expensive. What do I do?
When it comes to color, I take each room individually. I use the rule of three. 2 neutrals and one Color. For exampleIn my family roomI have darkwood furniture and flooring, Cream colored walls and sofa. For accent pieces, my color is turquoise. I use that in pillows and wall art.

Michel, I love you with my whole heart, but girl, your apartment looks expensive because the majority of it is expensive. Having a tailor add material to curtains is expensive. A couple hundred dollars for a coffee table in a sitting area is expensive, a few hundred dollars for patio chairs is expensive. Buying fresh flowers weekly is expensive, even from the grocery store, it adds up. You thrifted the vase on your bookshelves, but it’s surrounded by many expensive books and figures that were purchased full price in other vlogs. Purchasing multiple lamps instead of using your overhead lighting is expensive. Lamps aren’t cheap, not even from Target or the like. In addition to all your cheap hacks are tons of expensive furniture and decor throughout the apartment, not to mention the apartment itself looks expensive because it is, as in like more than double my mortgage. I still enjoyed watching but I gotta call you out on this one with girl, bye 😅🩷
Interesting comment and I want to say that I had a similar thought. Please know this is not hateful (maybe envious though). Some people have to collect those pricey items over years & years, not months. For example, furnishing quickly with IKEA and slowly replacing as budget allows. That bedding is very expensive (maybe it was gifted). There are really nice bamboo sheets on Amazon and at places like Marshall’s. I love you, your content, & your journey. These tips are great!

In my first apartment in 1994 (age 23), I had many hand-me-down items, a kitchen set found on someone’s curb, a twin-sized mattress, curtains I made from napkins (already hemmed 😉), and a few items from IKEA. I was a financially-strapped graduate student.
Fast-forward to today and I own my house (no more mortgage) & am putting my kiddo through college. My taste is eclectic so I have new, antique, thrifted, & gifted. To each their own, right?
