Rather than compare this negatively to late Mozart, I feel there are things that are clearer in early Mozart that are not so overtly apparent in late Mozart, and vice versa. The emotional range and depth widens in late Mozart but early Mozart foregrounds a certain crispness of form, delicacy of phrasing, and structural clarity which become more subsurface in late Mozart.
Mozart composed all of his violin concerti before age 20 yet no more for the last 15 years of his life. It's a shame, really; we could've had some on par with the late piano concerti.
