Keep inventory players: finally, inner peace
Edit: guys I meant inner peace as in keep inventory players won't be called cheaters anymore because even when the option was moved to world settings some people still saw it as cheating, but now that there is technically no cheats in the game anymore then that makes it impossible to cheat in vanilla Minecraft as you are "commanding" now. I'm so devoted to not cheating in Minecraft that I won't even use the instructions while building legos.
There was no reason this should’ve made me laugh yet here I am
I only cheat in redstone super flat worlds and I only use keep inventory
Putting it as "allow commands" is more descriptive of what it actually does anyway
While the new name is more true for the technical side of things, the game has an intended way of beating it in Survival or Hardcore mode. Using any sorts of commands is and should always be equated to cheating, especially if you give yourself advantages for building, farming or just beating the game outright. I'm not saying, you can't have your fun if you use keep inventory on or change something else in your world and/or gameplay - What I AM saying however, is that you should not use this as an excuse for saying that you beat the game or built something in your world legitimately. Commands are very much same way cheating as using X-Ray texture packs, mods (depending on what they do in this particular case, but the point can still be made that they let you play the game in the way it wasn't intended to be played), datapacks (same thing as mods), server plugins (this is more complicated case, as server plugins can be used for multiple things, not just changing the way game or world functions, such as being used as administrative tools for banning, kicking, warning players, etc.) and many other similar things. Be fair and honest to yourself and others - This is what people like me and others who claim that using commands is cheating are trying to say and expecting from others. If this is too much to ask for, why should we have any respect to you guys, same way as you don't do to us just because you feel good about yourself for making playing the game easier?

I know this is just a bit, just a funny lil joke, and I get it, it got a chuckle out of me, but actually, on the topic, there's a category for console command enabled speedruns for MC already, has been for a long time. IIRC world record is something like 1.3 seconds.
And not to ruin the joke or anything, I mean the joke doesn't have to make perfect sense to be funny, but anyway, technically it'd still be counted as cheating in a run if the category disallows commands, as you'd be submitting a run to the incorrect category.

"allow commands" is a lot clearer of a description of what the option actually does, but i'll probably still call it "cheats" because that's what i've always known
I understand why they changed it, it’s far from switching on god mode to mess around, Using commands is now just the other way to play the game, you can play the restricted survival experience or the sandbox mode and they’re both completely viable options.
But I still can’t help but feel a bit sad, there’s a certain charm to stuff like cheat codes and accessing debug modes to mess around with and break your favorite games, it’s just a name but it reminded you of more humble origins, it was never meant to demean the player, the developers wouldn’t put it there just so you could stay away from it. I’m gonna miss Cheats.
It's one command away from switching on god mode to mess around, that's not very far
Completely agree and I don't think they should've changed it at all, I feel like they're neutering the language just because "cheat" implies a hint of negativity. It's just one little crumb of a reference to the past where gaming was such a cultural phenomenon that we invented terms and new words to describe it, and they had to sweep it under the rug to replace it with something bland, generic, and inoffensive. Why? Must every dated reference be eliminated for the crime of being old?
@@MajorTomFisherbecause mojang has become a sterilized and bland sponsor pandering machine

100 seconds is better than 60 seconds, change my mind
@@mrfrog0913 would this rule also apply to things like... hours? so instead of 60 minutes its 100 minutes?
That's funny. I've had cheats renamed to "commands" in my custom resourcepack for years now, and they finally changed it.
My impression is they're not trying to say commands aren't cheating in general, but rather that commands are a lot more extensive and applicable than just cheats. It's that cheats are a subcategory of commands rather than the other way around
You could also say commands are a subcategory of cheats (depending on your definition for Minecraft), for Phoenix he includes data packs as "cheating", like he said in the video
i'm glad phoenix finally caved in to our demands and made a whole survival playthrough on his channel
I think it's fine to differentiate between cheating and using commands, it's probably fine either way. Much like how Celeste calls their assist mode... "Assist Mode", letting players use these commands without being guilty about it is a good idea
Any sort of assistance might give you more fun and satisfaction out of a game, but it still means you are making things easier for yourself, for no good reason, unless you actually have issues that require you to use features like this. No one is guilty about anything, no one is gatekeeping any fun, it's none of those things. What people like me are trying to say, is that we expect people to be able to admit when they have beaten a certain game, not just Minecraft or Celeste, using features specifically intended for beating a game in an easier way. We expect fairness and honesty out of people. You can have fun any way you want, but do not claim that you haven't cheated - Because you did. Most assistance features or commands in games are indeed cheats, especially those actively affecting the gameplay in any way. To this day, I do not get what's so hard to grasp about this for people so much, that they have to go out of their way and throw a drama when being called out on their bs, defend themselves like their life depended on it and get straight up offended. We need to differentiate between people unable to be honest with themselves and others, and those who can say when they did something. Even I am guilty of cheating in my Survival, multiplayer LAN world for friends by disabling phantoms from spawning with a command.
@@ChocoRainbowCorn🤓🤓🤓
@@ChocoRainbowCorn It's hard to 'grasp' for others because it's your personal opinion, not objective fact. "no good reason" is not an objective metric. And guess what "features specifically intended for beating a game in an easier way" _objectively_ includes? The ability to shoot your gun in an FPS, the ability to heal, _the ability to provide keyboard and mouse input._ You are drawing an arbitrary line in the sand and then complaining when complete strangers on the other side of the beach ignore it.
@@somdudewillson We can agree to disagree then. You can very much tell when a feature of a game makes it noticeably easier, and most of those things can indeed be verified and measured. Many tools exist for analyzing whether someone is cheating or not exist, and a lot of the time you do not even need any tools to tell a cheater apart from a person playing fairly. What exactly is not objective about this? Isn't something objective and something that's a fact, something that can be observed, analyzed and then proved or disproved? If you are simply willing to be ignorant of things that do not fall under the category of personal opinion, I won't bother explaining this to you more. Ignorance is bliss after all. Sure, I do have an opinion on a lot of these things, but the examples I brought up are not an opinion. Still, you are just arguing things for the sake of arguing things. If anyone's drawing an arbitrary line anywhere, as well as making up things, I would have to say that it is you, and I definitely do not feel like complaining if someone ignores me. Why? Because someone who ignores me usually has no good points for their side of a debate - Especially not points that they can prove, exactly like yourself for a good example. I will just end this discussion here, since it won't be going anywhere, anytime soon, but all I can say is, good luck on having fun with people who will make sure to call you out on cheating, if you do do it and they can prove it for you.

I think I agree that this is generally a good change - to me it's less about trying to clarify that "any way to play is fine", I think most of the community already understood that at least... but more importantly I appreciate that it may help avoid clouding the meaning of the word cheat when it's used with more serious accusations about people using hacked clients to "actually" cheat in multiplayer, or cheating speedruns with mods/etc. I would rather the word be reserved for the times when it's actually deserved because I think it helps keep the meaning/connotation behind the word more serious in everyone's mind then.
That's actually a very good point I hadn't considered! Cheating is definitely not limited to just commands in a Minecraft world, so it can be inaccurate to say that is the set of "cheats" available

If the direction that MS / Mojang is taking Minecraft in wasn't the way it is currently, I don't think there'd be much outcry over it.
But with everything they've done for a long time now, such as the constant reminders that "you're not playing a safe version" if you use any kind of mods or the more recent chat reporting system that can even get you banned from playing on private servers and I think even LAN worlds, this feels like yet another drop in the bucket in the same direction.
I agree that this change isn't particularly bad, at least by itself.
But it just doesn't feel right knowing the intentions that are likely behind it. And it's not my fault that it feels that way, it's a precedent that Mojang and MS have set over the last years.
@@whales0ng uh, it's not about creative, it's more about giving yourself items in survival, teleporting around in survival and using keepInv in survival. lots of things you can do in survival with commands that you usually shouldn't be able to do - hence it was called "cheating"

I love how fast people watch these videos by you. Great work as usual Phoenix!
Can't believe Mojang would just blantantly destroy Minecraft speedrunning like this
“You may not cheat” “I command you to let me do so”
Tbh I think this is a good change. Calling them "cheats" isn't really entirely accurate - it was in Legacy Console, where there were certain things you could turn on like flying that were just. Cheats.
But while you can cheat with commands, calling the setting "commands" rather than "cheats" is just much clearer
This is totally fine. Minecraft is a game about doing whatever you want, it’s a free sandbox to not only make things, but to have a fun experience. Giving the player the ability to do what they want is the core of Minecraft.
Renaming them to commands is better because it doesn’t discourage players to do what they want. “Commands” seem more like a magic wand rather than “cheating” the system which has bad connotations.

If anything, all this change does is force speed-running and other competitive communities to specify that commands won't be allowed in relevant competitions.
Heck, I bet most rules already specifically mention not being able to use commands, so I bet there's next to nothing that actually needs to be changed.
It literally has no effect on anything. Enable commands is just rewording of enable cheats it doesn't change the game in any way.
The free the end achievement is beating the game
Well then it's only 1 command
Personally, I like Keep Inventory off BUT with a modded enchantment like Soulbound so you can tag the items you truly care about to stay in your inventory so when you die, all your last excursion gains are gone, so say goodbye to all your ores/drops/rare blocks, but you still have your armor and tools you've put tons of resources into and don't have to worry about finding that little nook in a massive sprawling cave network 4,000 blocks from your spawn where you died within 5 minutes of being in chunk-load to it.
This reminds me of when DnD changed 'races' to 'species', it's more accurate and is probably an overall positive move, but it's also just less catchy (if that makes any sense)
Honestly I feel like this word fits better than cheats. Cheats kind of implies all it does is make things easier for you but the cheats in the game can do way more than just that.
we finally got the survival playthrough we have all been waiting for. Thank you PienixSc.
Phoenix played and beat survival, oh no!
The thumbnail scared me.
But this is actually a great change. Obviously for speedrunning and such, we will continue to call this cheating and set our own limits on what's allowed, but for casual gaming.. no more "you are bad" just because you like to play the game differently.
he was so fast he actually time traveled 1 minute into the future
Phoenix was so fast he broke how time works and found seconds we didn't know existed.
So Mojang nerfs villager trades because apparently in their eyes that is “cheating. But now actual cheats are just “commands” meaning anyone can now cheat without technically cheating. Yeah… makes sense.
dang bro beat the game in ONE MINUTE NINETY TWO SECONDS 💀💀💀
Honestly "commands" may become too confusing language wise for some.
As some commands were always available despite cheats being enabled.
as they say in the minecraft discord server: you are a command wizard
no, officer, I didn't cheat on my minecraft speedrun
nah this is something I actually agree with. I teach kids computer science related topics, one of them being minecraft commands and sometimes it's hard for the kids to realize what "cheats" means when we say to "enable cheats". The community at large calls them commands, where I work calls it commands, and I've never heard a minecraft player call a command a cheat. I just think it's more concise on what it means.
My cousin with 363739 diamonds: I didn't cheat!!
Me: I know...
