This film is based on the play "The Firebrand" which was a hit in NY in 1924. It was planned as Rudolph Valentino's next project; sadly, he died in August 1926. The project seems to have been resurrected, adapted from the play with some rearranging and may be very similar to the production which would have starred Valentino in a silent version. When I watch this, I am envisioning Valentino in the role! ( I love Frederic March, but I am seeing the spirit of Valentino in this film!)
I recently watched a TV mini-series called 'Rudolph Valentino - the Legend' (2014) in which the role of Valentino is played by Gabriel Garko - great actor.

Yes.This is an example of what was possible had she had better support for her career -she was definitely an underused talent.I really cannot think of a reason except perhaps envy or perhaps she was simply too decent a person to get certain parts.
thanks for posting, Frank Morgan is always a hoot, Fredrick March is kind of forgotten today but quite the comedic swashbuckler, Constance Bennett was good as the alluring and dangerous countess, but the highlight to me was Fay Wray as the utterly clueless Angela. Wray was far more versatile then a lot of modern movie goers realize if they only saw her in King Kong. Her comedic timing was great and the best line in the movie "if your going to hang him, mother and I would like to leave."

He was also assassinated age 26, but don't let that get in the way of a clever and funny film, which this is.
According to IMDB, Lucille Ball may appear as a "lady-in-waiting," but this is "unconfirmed" (and, of course, uncredited). See if you agree with me that she may be the lady over the Duchess's left shoulder at about 4:13.
