I find the best way to pick up crabs like those is to grab them by the two swim flippers at the back. Usually they can't grab you from that angle, At leasy, that's how it works with Blue Swimmer and Sand cranbs here in Queensland, which look an awful lot like Blue crab, spines and all. With them cut in half like that is the way I fish for cobia. If there's BIG cobia around I'll switch to a full crab. Could you fish that rig without the sinker? I think the very first one of Brant's videos I saw he was fishing this spot.

I hooked into a fresh water drum in November it was so big it scared me for a second til I figured out what is was. I was fishing for crappie and needless to say my 6 pound test didn't hold up and I lost it. I have heard there were huge ones just didn't think they would be that big.
