Unlocking the New Testament Part 1 - Matthew 1

  • David begins by speaking about how God meant us to read the Bible. He says that somebody has damaged our Bibles by adding chapter and verse numbers and we have become ‘text people’. The gospels are not strictly biographies as more than one-third of the text describes the death of Jesus. David says that they are more like extended news bulletins. The writers had witnessed events and they reported on them. Why are there 4 gospels? David compares them. He looks at this book from two angles: who was Matthew hoping to reach and what was his intention. Matthew presents Jesus as the king of the Jews, particularly recording what Jesus said. Jesus was popular in the north of Israel but unpopular in the south where he was eventually killed. Matthew uses Mark as his framework but adds much more, beginning with the conception and birth of Jesus. He has 5 sermons included, collected under 5 themes, interspersed with Jesus’ deeds which illustrated his sermons. Matthew aimed toward Jewish readers, referring often to how Jesus’ life fulfilled Old Testament scriptures, but it is for gentiles as well. David believes this gospel brings Jew and Christian together.
    David also has a book on this series find out more here: www.davidpawso...

      I think that most people are looking for free healing, fish and bread.
      They are not interested in become Yeshua's disciples with a main goal - to become teachers as soon and as good as possible.
      They want to be "go for it, you'll get it" listeners...

      Jerry Collins This is for you: Isaiah 29:9-14
      Pause and wonder!
      Blind yourselves and be blind!
      They are drunk, but not with wine;
      They stagger, but not with intoxicating drink.
      For the Lord has poured out on you
      The spirit of deep sleep,
      And has closed your eyes, namely, the prophets;
      And He has covered your heads, namely, the seers.
      The whole vision has become to you like the words of a book that is sealed, which men deliver to one who is literate, saying, “Read this, please.”
      And he says, “I cannot, for it is sealed.”
      Then the book is delivered to one who is illiterate, saying, “Read this, please.”
      And he says, “I am not literate.”
      Therefore the Lord said:
      “Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths
      And honor Me with their lips,
      But have removed their hearts far from Me,
      And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,
      Therefore, behold, I will again do a marvelous work
      Among this people,
      A marvelous work and a wonder;
      For the wisdom of their wise men shall perish,
      And the understanding of their prudent men shall be hidden.” Don’t lie to yourselves, the Torah and the Nevi’im have been speaking about you! Psalms 95:7b-11
      Today, if you will hear His voice:
      “Do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion,
      As in the day of trial in the wilderness,
      When your fathers tested Me;
      They tried Me, though they saw My work.
      For forty years I was grieved with that generation,
      And said, ‘It is a people who go astray in their hearts,
      And they do not know My ways.’
      So I swore in My wrath,
      ‘They shall not enter My rest.’ ” Repent and be converted, do not deceive yourselves, God is not mocked!

    🎯 Key Takeaways for quick navigation:
    01:18 📚 *The Bible is a collection of books, not a singular book, and it's important to read it book by book to understand its various genres and purposes.*
    02:14 📖 *Chapter and verse numbers were added to the Bible later and can sometimes hinder understanding by dividing the text in a way unintended by its authors.*
    03:36 💬 *Taking Bible verses out of context can lead to misinterpretation and loss of their intended meaning.*
    05:20 📰 *The Gospels are unique literary forms, resembling news bulletins announcing significant events about Jesus.*
    09:01 📷 *The four Gospels provide different perspectives on Jesus, giving a fuller picture of his character and actions.*
    13:25 🤔 *Studying the Gospels involves considering both the writer's perspective and the intended audience and purpose of each Gospel.*
    14:43 📚 *Matthew's Gospel, one of the synoptic Gospels, emphasizes Jesus' teachings and presents him as fulfilling the Law of Moses.*
    15:32 📝 *Mark's Gospel, characterized by its fast-paced narrative, builds up to and slows down towards the climax of Jesus' crucifixion.*
    18:15 🗣️ *Matthew's Gospel includes more speeches and teachings of Jesus, organized into five sermons, emphasizing his role as a new lawgiver.*
    23:01 📜 *Matthew's use of "Kingdom of Heaven" instead of "God" demonstrates sensitivity towards Jewish readers.*
    23:55 📖 *Matthew extensively references the Old Testament to show fulfillment in Jesus, appealing to Jewish readers.*
    24:53 📜 *Matthew emphasizes Jesus' birth in Bethlehem to fulfill prophetic expectations, highlighting his Jewish identity.*
    26:12 💬 *Matthew portrays Jesus as innocent and emphasizes his fulfillment of the law, addressing concerns of Jewish readers.*
    27:57 💡 *Matthew presents Jesus as fulfilling, not abolishing, the Law of Moses, reflecting Jewish concerns.*
    28:53 🌍 *Despite its focus on Jewish readers, Matthew's Gospel also includes teachings for Gentiles, promoting inclusivity.*
    29:49 🌳 *The genealogy in Matthew Chapter 1 serves a purpose in establishing Jesus' identity, leading to conversions.*
    32:29 ⛪ *Matthew's strong message to Jews reflects the growing division between Jews and the early Christian church.*
    34:17 🚪 *Matthew aims to keep the door open to Jews and reminds Christians of their Jewish roots, fostering unity between the two groups.*

    I personally disagree
    - David wants you to read the whole book in context ,.......and that also means checking what he says ...............not accepting what David says and reading just a verse which even David may be quoting out of context ....it is frustrating and hard work but it means you read the verse in contact and then can judge if David is right

    David, is a very educated man, but there's one thing that makes me wonder why they will use the name 'Jew' as a race.
    Explanation: there was Abraham, isaac and Jacob. All Hebrews. God changed Jacob's name to Israel. Israel had twelve son's, all Hebrews... Judah, is just one out of twelve tribe's of Israel. Tell me how, the other tribe's, (eleven) became Jew's?
    It's by religion and not by flesh.

    I was a child when I saw the concorde flying for the first time. I saw it and I stared at it in wonder until it was gone. I'd never seen anything like it before, and in my excitement, and not knowing what kind of plane it was, I ran in and told my mom and dad, "I just saw a plane with it's wings back like so," as I put my arms back behind me. It wasn't until later that I found out that it was a Concorde. This iwas in the early 80's and Concorde was barely around 10 years or so. Him holding that plane up brought back that memory.

    In Mr Pawson’s other videos, it became clear to me that the law is written on our hearts and we are to continue repenting and continue believing, etc

    25:41 jesus was only born in bethlehem. he lived in nazareth most of his private life. he fulfilled both prophecies that the would be born in bethlehem but he will be called a nazarene (not nazerite) and would bring light to that darkened place-the region of galilee which was plagued with paganism (mt. hermon!!!)

  • @graceyow3392
    @graceyow3392 ปีที่แล้ว

    28:07 "the laws of moses." moses did not create laws. god added to the ten commandments specific application of the law because of the hardness of the hearts of his chosen people. god had to spell out under their circumstances what his law of love (ten commandments) mean and how it is to be applied. the ten commandments is the constitution, the religious, social and criminal laws were the application of it in day to day life. jesus was prophesied to magnify the law. and he did by pointing out the spirit of the law of love (reverence for god and respect for all humans and his creation). one does not boingk one's neighbor's wife if he truly loves (respects) his neighbor.
    if we continue to regard laws, precepts, teachings outside of the ten commandments as moses' then we will have to struggle with what jesus said about god's law not passing until his whole creation passes away.

    27:47 god's law has parameters: tithing was the inheritance of the tribe of levi which was not given land inheritance like all the other tribes because god chose them to serve the temple. since the destruction of the temple, the god's people have not tithed. note tithes were produce of the land, both plants and cattle.
    the law of god has principles: there is no law against abortion but there is law against murder.

    28:33 "the wisemen from the east...we presume they were gentiles." no they were not. they were part of the priestly tribe of levi that chose to remain in babylon after the prophesied and fulfilled exile of the kingdom of judah (comprised of the tribes of judah, benjamin and levites living in judah serving at the temple). this tribes kept record of the law of god and knew about the prophesies. consider, the "star" only appeared in the east and disappeared they had to ask where jesus was born. it re-appeared only when they were nearing the tower of the flock, confirming the prophecies of balaam and micah.

    My personal Translation.
    1 This is the family tree of the MESSIAH JESUS, the son of David, the son of Abraham.
    2 ¶ Abraham fathered Isaac...
    ...16 And Jacob fathered Joseph the guardian of Mary, which gave birth to JESUS, whom is
    entitled the Messiah. {John 6:42}
    17 Thus all the generations, from Abraham to David, were fourteen generations. And from David
    until they were captured into Babylon, fourteen generations. And after they were held captive in
    Babylon unto CHRIST, are fourteen generations.
    18 Now the genesis of CHRIST JESUS begins like this: After the betrothment of his mother
    Mary with Joseph, before either of them could have met, she was found to be carrying in the
    womb, from the sacred GHOST.
    19 But because her fiancé, Joseph, was kindhearted & loathed to shame her in public, he
    preferred to have her disowned in a private manner.
    20 But as he slept on these thoughts, behold! The Angel of our Lord appeared unto him in a
    dream, saying: Joseph, thou son of David, do not dread to receive Mary as your bride; in truth
    the one who grows in her, is from the sacred GHOST.
    21 And she shall labor & deliver a son, and thou wilt call his name JESUS, since he shall save
    his citizens from their flaws.
    22 Now, all this came to fruition, to complete what was spoken through the Prophet by the
    LORD, foretelling:
    23 Behold! A Virgin shall bear in the womb & bring forth a son; and they will call his name
    IMMANUEL, which being translated is: The GOD among us.
    24 And when Joseph awoke out of bed, he did as the Angel of our Lord had bidden him, and
    accepted Mary as his wife.
    25 But he acquainted among her not, till she had brought forth her firstborn son; and she gave
    him the name JESUS. {Luke 1:31}

    • @DavidPawsonMinistry
      @DavidPawsonMinistry  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      With respect that is exactly what David teaches - we are longer under the law of Moses - we have liberty, through the death of Jesus
      Yes David did rejected dispensationalism because you will not discover Dispensationalism through reading your Bible yourself.
      - its a theory devised by John Nelson Darby in the 1830's. Why is there no clear teachings of this theory in the writing of the early church fathers nor from the writings of Paul , Peter , John ?
      You are free to listen to David ......or not, but why do you believe the teaching of any man?
      - Read the Bible for yourself, its the only source of Gods Truth

      Because of Matthew 19 to 23. And this happened because they expected the type of Christ that will be at the 2nd coming to be at the first coming. They were looking for the national redeemer and war hero to free them from Rome and to rule Israel and they didn't give him the time too or accept him. Both were old testament prophecy hidden in plain sight that they would do that. They expected both roles at the same time or 2 Messiahs at the same time. But it's spiritual and over the last 30 years has been lifting slowly until the last 5 or so and now it's skyrocketing. That means the fullness of the gentiles is coming in and were going out. 18:39 He mentioned that Matthew changed some details in Mark's gospel. He said that in Matthew's gospel, the parable of the lost sheep has a different context from Mark's gospel... but Mark did not wrote the parable of the lost sheep in his book. The parable of the lost sheep can only be found in the book of Matthew and Luke, not in Mark. I think David Pawson is indeed a good teacher, but it would better to check and test everything first.

      Hi Geoffrey This is Steve on behalf of David - you are correct. You may observe that David teaches from memory and does not use notes. That is not an excuse. Unlocking the Bible contains some 100 hours of recording and this is the first time this error has been pointed out in all the years this video has been watched. Thank you for pointing this out to us.

Both teachers lay a foundation, each in their own field of expertise, for every believer, under the guidance of the HOLY SPIRIT, to excel in understanding the different books containing the WORD of our GOD, from Genesis to Revelation. juggling all of Yeshua's sayings is hard. how do I 1) avoid anger 2) love God more than my own child and 3) act justly like God said in Micah 6:8? the situation is probably more typical than I think. my husband left me and my son we now live with my parents, and i'm trying to keep my son from flunking 7th grade. his grammy (my husbands mom) bought him a PS4 and shes buying him an Xbox this year, all he wants to do is play games! I feel like im being bulldozed by people who want to spoil him. see, I told you it is a typical situation. pray for me and my son Tristan please!

      Matthew 7:12. Deuteronomy 6:4. Read that whole section. Levetics 19:8. You're not going to be able to keep all the laws. No one can. That's why he was sacrificed. The sacrificial system was a pact between God and the Jews with Moses foreshadowing Christ as a mediator defending on their behalf as a mediator and delivering to them on behalf of a mediator. That bond kept them in good standing with the Lord through sacrifices to attone for their sin. Jesus was the final sacrifice for our sin and brought the new covenant that would be written in our hearts according to the prophet Jeremiah. When you mess up, fine. He took that sacrifice you were supposed to make when you messed up on the cross. That covered past, present, and future all in one whack. I encourage you to know what's desired and set your mind on a relationship with the Lord. If you'll focus on the two Jesus said all day everyday the rest fall into place on their on with no effort. Are there exceptions, and times we trip? Absolutely. That's present even in the millenial reign for 1000 years after his 2nd coming even if it's in extremely small amounts. The point I'm trying to make is don't stumble, or beat yourself up. He took that beating for you. When that registers you'll love him all the more. Always press forward through all situations keeping the LORD and his word close at heart.
      If you're a single mom, lay down rules if it's affecting your sons upbreaking. He will appreciate you for it later. He will be a man soon enough and needs a moral standard to be patterned into his life before adulthood. Education is important and laziness is frowned upon scripturally.

    26:56 not mixed materials but weaving wool with linen together in one garment. the mixing of linen and wool was only for priestly garments. however, to remind the nation that god intended to make them a nation of kings and priests, they were to wear tassles attached to the corners of their cloaks of entwined wool and linen. kings and priests were to be guided by the law of god which the tassles were the reminder much as knots are tied to a finger to remind of something.

    I bought the paperback Unlocking the Bible by David Pawson the other day not knowing what to expect. After reading through the the Pentateuch, I must say I've unknowingly acquired a gem. The only problem I have is that the book is too small but thick and thus not easy to read the middle section. Overall it's an excellent guidebook for believers in Christ to know His story more in-depth and in the process understand and appreciate God's redemptive plan for fallen humanity.
