It's different from DC step-up chips. I think PD may be more efficient.

Thanks for sharing. Goign to try this myself. Have you thought about working on a battery (such as the Basues/Anker) inside the batter port?
@@JRBeckford I couldn’t find a PD power bank that is small enough to fit in. Do you have any suggestions?
@@ToolsElectroDIY I was trying to think up how the Anker PowerCore 5,000mAh Portable Charger or Nitecore Carbon Battery 6K USB-C Rechargeable would work. Goign to see if I can get the 3D printing shop on campus can make me several battery cover copies to test things out. I don't have much a lab per say to build things. I am also thinking of possibly some EBL D Cell Batteries 10,000mAh on Amazon. What do you think?
@@JRBeckford I don’t have those battery bags, but if they are small enough to fit in, then sure can do that
3D print support for a fixed batty at the back and hide it with usb-c integrated in the finition plate and it’s perfect. Add bluetooth and that’s a complete modernised iPod hifi unit :)
sounds good
Fantastic. Very many thanks. I almost threw my old unit away as the AC power transformer seems to have failed, and the battery connections are only way to get it working again without replacing the transformer, but can’t find anyone who will do this for me.
Glad it was helpful
Love the concept. Mount a connector in the battery cover.

This is awesome thanks! You have the final product yet?
Yes please watch short video th-cam.com/users/shortsskj9hsLOnu8?feature=share
great idea i might go that direction thanks ☺️
yes
hi what’s the best way to connect the wires to the battery terminals ? many thanks
Solder. Or tape when testing.
Have you ever attempted making a 12volt vs this 9volt version? I know when I use it on battery power vs plugged in (12v), the volumet level maxes out much high when plugged into a 12v source. The 9v volume is plenty good for most cases though so maybe it not worth it.
No. Because this Apple speaker doesn’t take 12v. I did a mod for a 12V TV. Stay tuned I will post a video soon
I have a couple I'll experiment but the power brick inside has an input range of 7.5v-9.9v (fresh D batteries sit at about 1.6v) so I figured they used 10v capacitors but 🤷♂️
hi love the idea ,what would be the exact name of the USB C chip ? many thanks 👍
I cojldnt' find it
With the 9V charger, it will not charge the iPod when in the dock. Would switching to a 12V allow for the iPod to charge? Was your goal just to get music on the go, or to get full functionality from a battery bank?
It charges the iPod too. The iPod HiFi Speaker will not know that the D batteries are not used. It is a constant 9V power supply, not 12V. My finished design is shown in this short video th-cam.com/users/shortsskj9hsLOnu8?feature=share My goal is to avoid using D batterie or use a 90 degree USB-C cable from wall charger to make it sit closer to the wall as the original AC cable sticks out too much. Please smash the like and subscribe.
I have one where the internal power supply has failed and I'm loathed to open the box. Could I use this to hook it up to a usb wall plug?
Not sure but worth a shot see The first Apple speakers #ipod #hifi power delivery USB-C conversion

I just got this iPod Hifi speaker. It powers on but no sound coming out from my classic iPod 7th gen (modded by an eBay seller). It didn’t come with original power cord, could this be the reason that there’s no sound coming out? I see the green blinking dot on speaker so it shows to have power. I’m buying an OEM power cord, hoping this would solve the no sound problem. Do you know why it doesn’t have sound? Thanks!
The AC power cord of the speaker is generic, so it should not be the cause of the issue. I suspect your modded iPod classic 7th Gen has a faulty 30-pin connector. I had this same issue before. It will only charge and transfer music but no audio output. You should contact the iPod seller and get the iPod fixed / replaced. It can be easily verified using another iPod dock / speaker.
@@ToolsElectroDIY I have 2 other iPod classics, both 5th gen. Tried them just now, no sound. I just used the AUX, worked very well. Love the speaker! Thanks 🙏🏼
I still wish the dock would work.
How to used witout remote sir
Control via iPod wheel.
saludos! Buen video, Gracias a ti logre hacer mi ipod hifi portable, pero el volumen es menos de la mitad, imagino tienes el mismo problema, alguna solucion?
English pls
Which iPod are you using? Do you know which one would be compatible with the iPod Hi-Fi, meaning that they will charge and send music via the 30 pin connector?
iPod nano and Classic. All 30-pin iPods are compatible.
@@ToolsElectroDIY do you know if the classic can charge via the 30-pin connector?
@@AndyRSV it can
that is, if directly applied to DC 12 v. will it just burn out?
It may burn it. There is no way to know but to try it out :) I won't risk it.
Hi sir I need sound board diagram pdf
I need it too.
